I was on vacation in Boston when Robin passed. We went to Boston Public Garden and to the bench that his monolog was on, and there were flowers on the bench and hundreds of quotes written in chalk all along the sidewalk surrounding it! "You're move chief" along with plenty from Aladdin, Dead Poets, Good Morning Vietnam, etc... it was beautiful and heartbreaking.
@@IAmHumongous I think you misconstrued. The psychologist played by Robin Williams was interested in Will's problems and in Will himself, he was just pointing out to Will that unless Will opened up he couldn't help him, and apparently that broke down Will's defensiveness.
Robin used to ride his bicycle all around San Francisco. He would show up to things going on in town and just ride around the periphery. With sunglasses and a helmet on, he was somewhat incognito and could just blend in. I saw him a few times. Most folks who recognized him in these settings would just let him be but he was always kind and gracious when approached.
Apparently where I’m from ppl or ppl I know who’ve met him would always would notice him cause he’s so Hairy!! Haha so they would notice his arms before his face type thing. 🤣🤪
Robin would also just show up to certain comedy clubs, try out a few jokes, hang out, and give advise to the comedians. (Like seeing a movie star in Hollywood. Rare, but not anything incredible)
I find that a lot of reactors are hard on Gerry. He really went out of his way to help Will. None of the healing Will was ultimately able to get would have been possible without Gerry going out on a limb just to help Will. And yes, he tried to give him help and direction in ways that Gerry responded to, but none of it was done with ego or maliciousness. As he said, he wasn't at home twisting his mustache. And he had no problem acknowledging that he was nothing compared to Will. Or even that Sean was always smarter than him. I've always seen Gerry and Sean as two types of good parents for Will, with two ways of providing well-intended support and direction. Those two styles of parenting will of course clash, and Jerry and Sean had a lot of baggage going back to their years in college, but I'm glad Gerry went to apologize to Sean for their fight, and that they made up.

I agree! Gerry just had a problem letting go of whatever animosity there was between him and Sean. Gerry was focused on what Will could give to the world, while Sean was focused on what the world could give to Will.
I'm not sure I would agree entirely that Gerry's help/direction was without ego, he certainly stands to be "the one" who discovered and brought will into the spotlight for this corner of the world (math community) but I absolutely agree he isn't the antagonist (Will is clearly his own antagonist, namely his past trauma more so than literally himself). I think Gerry is a very prideful and somewhat egotistical individual but he isn't evil or inherently a bad person. He just has a hard time seeing anything except the one driving thing, exploring his profession and wants to see Will add his substantial intellect to that field. He does have good intentions but I don't think his intentions are 100% pure either.
Gerry's man problem, with both Sean and Will, is that he can only see and approach life from his own lens... he doesn't stop and think about how or why Sean/Will's lives and experiences may have caused them to react differently in situations than him... he only thinks about how he'd react, and tries to infer from there, which is a huge mistake, given how different they are.
it seems to me most people forget, or don't know the most amazing thing about this movie - Matt and Ben didn't just give a great performance in an amazing movie ... they WROTE the fucking thing!

Just recently saw an old interview with Matt. He said that last scene with Robin Williams in the doorway reading his note took about 30 takes, and each time, RW would step out the door and say something different. But when he did the "Son of a bitch...he stole my line" bit, Gus Van Zant, who was standing behind Matt, squeezed Matt's shoulders and said "That's the one" lol
I've seen so many people react to this movie and there seem to be two kinds of reactions to the "come to California with me" scene. There are the people who are confused by Will's actions and frustrated with him and there are the people who know exactly what he's doing and why. I'm in the latter camp and while it's a little frustrating to watch someone not 'get it' I think it speaks to something positive. It's probably a very good thing for a person to not relate to Will in that moment. It's an awful coping mechanism for past trauma that really messes up your life. While I often wish people had more empathy and understood those of us who act like this better, I have to admit that people are fortunate to be ignorant of it.
I know it may seem like I don’t understand Will, cause I’m rootin for him to see his potential, but my tears are more the expression of the sadness I have for him and understand at a visceral level what and why he’s doing it…There is so much to say, that I don’t say, or can’t always express. Because it’s a fine balance of letting the scene play and commenting. The trauma some characters face is too nuanced to try and explain… thanks for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it!
@@holddowna The entire movie is a litmus test of which viewers have abandonment issues and which ones don't. Not just that scene, but Will's entire method of sabotaging himself (getting into fights, insulting people, pushing people away) in every aspect of his life
I personally dislike that so many empathize with will but hate Jenny in Forest Gump. They are the same character except one is a dick to everyone to push them away and the other runs away from everything.
I guess it must come down to perspective. "If you love something you have to set it free" in which he doesn't think he's good enough, he's never felt unconditional love before and doesn't believe he is worthy of hers, or able to accept that he can be loved. Self destruct. Isn't that the main point of the film though, not how genial he is but how his past shouldn't dictate his future. Him being a genius is more a mcgufin than it is important to the story.🤷

My all time favorite story of Robin Williams is the time he hospitalized a woman... with laughter. It wasn't intentional, but it did happen. Robin was a guest on "In the Actor's Studio" with host James Lipton in 2001. The show aired for a long time and episodes usually ran for an hour or so. Robin was on for 3-4 hours, so the televised version of his appearance was greatly abridged to say the least. As expected he turns it up way past 11 and is just absolutely hilarious. During the show, you can hear a woman laughing very hard and very frequently, so much so that even Robin commented on it. Well, by the end of 4 hours with Robin Williams doing what he did best, the poor woman ended up with a hernia from laughing so hard, and had to be taken to hospital. Robin brought so much love, laughter and joy to our world, while at the same time he suffered in silence... We are all so very lucky to have shared time with him on this planet, and we are all so greatly diminished by his loss. RIP Robin, we miss you.
Robin Williams is one of those rare people who are cultural Zeitgeists. We don't realize how blessed we are to have them in our lives until the world changes and they're suddenly gone.
It’s a shame the major studios don’t make too many films like this anymore. The best hope for a film like this these days is streaming. I like my tentpoles, don’t get me wrong, but for me, films like this are the ones I typically remember. Based on current box office trends, I’m hoping they decide films like this are worth making more of again.
I watched a clip on hot ones of Matt Damon talking about DVD sales being huge and they don’t have that anymore. He said something like these movies they are harder to make now..But I’m with ya I hope they invest in these amazing stories… thanks for watching!!
That teardrop when you saw the monologue done by Robin was just....yeah, it's heartbreaking what happened to him. He was a lot of my childhood. He's just an unbelieveably bubbly and amazing person, with a gigantic range of acting talent. Btw, if no one had mentioned this in the comments, yes, Robin did adlib the story of Sean's wife when Will Hunting first opened up in his therapy. And the adlib was so uncalled for and so funny, the cameraman laughed as well. You can see how the camera shaked at the point where Matt Damon lost it (yeah he's not in character anymore at that point) And yeah, watch The Martian, it's just so good!
I met Robin on the street once in San Francisco as I was checking out the neighborhood and he was walking his dog (as I recall). We actually stopped and talked for about five minutes or so. He was as genuinely brilliant and graceful and kind in person as you would imagine him to be.
When Ben & Matt wrote the script they wanted Robin Williams for the part he plays. However, they had no chance of paying the amount of money for him. The script arrived to Robin and after reading the script he insisted to play the part
Minnie Driver is perfect in this film. She was nominated for FIVE prestigious awards (including Best Supporting Actress) and won British Supporting Actress of the Year. She would have won the Oscar that year were it not for Juliette Binoche (The English Patient).

I've only ever seen it once, when I was much younger, and I just remember that it seemed to take forever, dragged, and nothing important or relevant ever happened in it. I was bored senseless -- but I know that plenty of people think it was great, so clearly younger me wasn't in the right frame of mind to understand or enjoy what it had to offer.
I went to Boston for the history, but couldn't help making my way to the park where they filmed the bench scene. Luckily, people pointed it out to me. I walked up to it and on the walking path in front of the bench were all sorts of different Robin Williams quotes written in chalk by all sorts of different visitors. I didn't speak, I just stood there, reading all the quotes, even some from Dead Poet's Society, and there it was..."Your Move Chief". I was never more grateful for Robin Williams than I was at that moment, and I grew up watching him in Mork & Mindy. A lot of celebrities have left us, but none hurt as much as losing him. Luckily, we can watch him and listen to him, and most importantly...we can laugh with him.
I am a foster parent to a kid that reminds me a lot of will. He's moved almost a dozen times in 7 years and still has picked up math like it's nothing with a crazy good memory. It might seem weird why Will won't just attach to someone, but when you have no idea if you're going to be loved or left from one day to the next by the people who are supposed to care for you, you just can't open yourself up like that. I hope someday my kiddo will find a way to open up and work with his feelings and find a healthy path, but it's really up to him
As a foster dad myself it breaks my heart to see stuff like this. You have an opportunity to show a child that the world isn't evil but instead they validate every negative perspective the child has about the world😢😢
There’s a moment every time I watch this I get so teary eyed thinking about Robin Williams and how hard it must have been to be that zany guy that everyone expected him to be but in the end he hurt down deep like the rest of us battling severe depression.

I love the fact that he didn't answered about the 285 bench.. he knew he'd never bench that weight and that's why he was scared when Sean grab him. He immediately felt the physical strength. So that's another closed door for him. Can't beat Sean physically, can't beat Sean mentally. Hands down.
Absolutely perfect writing and acting, and the always wonderful Robin Williams at his best. I too cried when he died, he was not just a great actor but a wonderful human being.
Skeeball. Balls in holes. (Ruh-roh) On a serious note, this is my favorite role from Robin Williams. This movie is SO well written, and is one of my favorites. Williams' performance is so calm, and caring, yet stern and strong. This movie, and Williams' performance had such an impact on me as a mid-20's person when it was released. Such a moving film.

I am a Marine and truly respect ur reaction to movies not based on war but the men who fought some of us never truly came back at least not completely. Seeing ur nonmilitary reviews vs the military ones never loose that innocents or hatred for not only war but the compassion for the men. I don't think many feel as u do. The reason we do it is for everyone but mainly so ppl like u do not have to lose that innocence and accept war. Ur hearts r to pure.

I love the Portuguese lesson in the middle of the reaction. First time hearing someone dropping some Portuguese on a reaction channel. This son of immigrants certainly appreciates it. The best part of this movie is always Robin's speech by the pond and Chucky's speech on the construction site. That's a best friend!
I've met Robin Williams in person 3-4 times. I used to work at EB Games in San Francisco (Stonestown Shopping Center), and he would come in to buy games. :)
Robin Williams was one of the best dramatic actors ever. You mentioned Dead Poets Society, but don't forget WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP, with Williams in his first dramatic role. It was this role that cast the mold for his wise, perceptive and funny approach to a character. His best role in my book.

When you mentioned "saudade", it took me back to when I did my student teaching in Brazil back around 1980. I learned a bit of Portuguese and one of my favorite expressions was "tenho muito Saudades do Brasil"

I grew up watching Mork & Mindy. I also saw his movies and his interviews on late night talk shows. When my local news announced his passing I couldn't believe it. I thought he would be around forever. Then the news anchor said many began posting to their social media accounts a picture of themselves standing on desks with the caption "Oh captain my captai!" That was it. Reality set in. I felt like I lost a close family member. I wasn't ready for him to go. I feel like much of my childhood was anchored around him. With his loss that childhood also was lost. The world seems to slowly change into some place I no longer recognize with each passing of people like him.
I just found you and you are amazing. This movie always makes me cry, but you made me cry even more and it felt so good. Your empathy and sense of humour hits like a lighting. This was like therapy for me. I feel in real life we would be really good soulmates and friends, at least. Ok, this is 'just' a movie reaction, but I have have pretty good emotional sensors. One of my favorite movies. Very grounded in reality in almost every way with this fantastic genius story always in the back ground, but in the end he chooses love. We need more movies like this right now, I would be happy to drop 70% of the special effect movies to see more studio's take a chance on original stories like this.

in 2004 I was stationed in Germany at the hospital in Lanstuhl. Robin Williams was doing an USO show and because I was an escort to wounded soldiers, I was able to sit in the VIP area with the wounded and high ranking officers. It was an awesome experience I was able to get him to sign my hat. The man was so hyperactive and I will never forget meeting him.
Yeah, great monologues and dialogues, very powerful stuff, well worth the cry! Trivial fact about Robin Williams: my first "encounter" with him was with the show "Mork and Mindy", way before your time; he played a character that was very typical of him. Love the fact, that Damon is literally spechless. Nobody talk to him like this ever. Felt something new and frighten. And yes, that bech is a memorial for Robin.
Too bad that I subscribed some time ago, now I won't win the lottery. As for Robin, he truly was a genius and I think that is a major factor in his final decision. In a moment of clarity, he knew he was only going to get worse and one of the defining characteristics of his life, his mind, was what was being attacked. My father was a genius, when it came to basic math and construction. You could call out four 4 digit numbers and he could add them faster in gis head than you could on a calculator. He quit school in like the 6th grade to go to work full time, to help out him and his 10 brothers and sisters. So he would have trouble doing calculus but only because he lacked that education. He could also look at a blueprint of a building and quickly figure out how much of each material(lumber, metal, plumbing, wiring, etc) was needed to build it. It was painful seeing him go through Alzheimer's in his final years. I know he hated it, in his moments of clarity.
Every year on the anniversary of Robin Williams death I watch this movie, and the week prior to that day I binge watch all of his movies or at least the ones that I have and I save good will hunting for the actual day and it’s become a personal tradition of mine. I don’t exactly share it with anybody. It’s just kind of my thing, but I love doing that to remember him.
By all means. I love your channel by the way I just found it and I’ve been following reaction channels for a while, because I love following along with other people, and yours is by far one of the most genuine.
I think this is the movie that best captures true male bonding and friendship. Good, valuable friends are the ones that challenge you straight up, because they see your true potential and feel outraged that you're not realising it. Ones that will even fight you so your coin drops. I always say that one right of passage that probably many women don't experience is to have been punched hard in the face once in their lives - for young men, it's almost a universal experience, as the aftermath (if you're a self-reflecting individual) grounds your thoughts and make you reflect if - maybe - you actually deserved it. That's why in many occasions teens might exchange blows with each other and bloody themselves up and become best friends later. This script is brilliant in that it encapsulates not only the process of confronting trauma, and healing, but it's also the coming of age, when a young smart boy realises that the journey is not just accumulate knowledge, but rather wisdom. The wisdom that transforms a boy into a man. And wisdom is a gift of lived experiences, the good and the bad ones. I rewatch this movie every now and then, because it's a masterpiece.

Man Robin Williams was such a big part of my childhood. I miss him. Recently I randomly decided to watch a movie called "Absolutely Anything" because Simon Pegg was the star. Only to later realize that film was the last thing Robin Williams was in.
The first time i watched this it’s not your fault scene made me cry my eyes out. Coming from a emotional abusive family and also dealing with abandonment issues myself, that scene broke me. To this day i can't watch that part without crying my eyes out.

It wasn't an alpha-dog confrontation in Sean's office, it was Will trying to preemptively get Sean to quit on him by pushing his buttons as he did with the previous (5) therapists. It's a protective/defensive mechanism.

Robin would also just show up to certain comedy clubs, try out a few jokes, hang out, and give advise to the comedians. (Like seeing a movie star in Hollywood. Rare, but not anything incredible)

I find that a lot of reactors are hard on Gerry. He really went out of his way to help Will. None of the healing Will was ultimately able to get would have been possible without Gerry going out on a limb just to help Will. And yes, he tried to give him help and direction in ways that Gerry responded to, but none of it was done with ego or maliciousness. As he said, he wasn't at home twisting his mustache. And he had no problem acknowledging that he was nothing compared to Will. Or even that Sean was always smarter than him. I've always seen Gerry and Sean as two types of good parents for Will, with two ways of providing well-intended support and direction.
Those two styles of parenting will of course clash, and Jerry and Sean had a lot of baggage going back to their years in college, but I'm glad Gerry went to apologize to Sean for their fight, and that they made up.

From Gerry's point of view, Will is wasting his generational talent (just as he thinks Robin Williams wasted his genius), and he's trying to instill the lifelong discipline and focus that it takes to be the greatest in your field; notice how he's not married and seems to have few friends and no life outside of his office. And he's not wrong, look at the lives of geniuses like Beethoven and Bobby Fisher; even Michael Jordan was widely considered a single-minded jerk; they were tortured people but they are remembered. But because he is so focused, too many people think he's cruel when he's just showing what it takes to be a legend.
I agree! Gerry just had a problem letting go of whatever animosity there was between him and Sean. Gerry was focused on what Will could give to the world, while Sean was focused on what the world could give to Will.
I'm not sure I would agree entirely that Gerry's help/direction was without ego, he certainly stands to be "the one" who discovered and brought will into the spotlight for this corner of the world (math community) but I absolutely agree he isn't the antagonist (Will is clearly his own antagonist, namely his past trauma more so than literally himself). I think Gerry is a very prideful and somewhat egotistical individual but he isn't evil or inherently a bad person. He just has a hard time seeing anything except the one driving thing, exploring his profession and wants to see Will add his substantial intellect to that field. He does have good intentions but I don't think his intentions are 100% pure either.
Gerry's man problem, with both Sean and Will, is that he can only see and approach life from his own lens... he doesn't stop and think about how or why Sean/Will's lives and experiences may have caused them to react differently in situations than him... he only thinks about how he'd react, and tries to infer from there, which is a huge mistake, given how different they are.
Gerry is the father figure, Sean is the mother figure
it seems to me most people forget, or don't know the most amazing thing about this movie - Matt and Ben didn't just give a great performance in an amazing movie ... they WROTE the fucking thing!

Just recently saw an old interview with Matt. He said that last scene with Robin Williams in the doorway reading his note took about 30 takes, and each time, RW would step out the door and say something different. But when he did the "Son of a bitch...he stole my line" bit, Gus Van Zant, who was standing behind Matt, squeezed Matt's shoulders and said "That's the one" lol
Robin Williams earned his Oscar. This is the greatest way to remember him. He was a genius. His performance is legendary. A true star never fades.
I've seen so many people react to this movie and there seem to be two kinds of reactions to the "come to California with me" scene. There are the people who are confused by Will's actions and frustrated with him and there are the people who know exactly what he's doing and why. I'm in the latter camp and while it's a little frustrating to watch someone not 'get it' I think it speaks to something positive. It's probably a very good thing for a person to not relate to Will in that moment. It's an awful coping mechanism for past trauma that really messes up your life. While I often wish people had more empathy and understood those of us who act like this better, I have to admit that people are fortunate to be ignorant of it.
I know it may seem like I don’t understand Will, cause I’m rootin for him to see his potential, but my tears are more the expression of the sadness I have for him and understand at a visceral level what and why he’s doing it…There is so much to say, that I don’t say, or can’t always express. Because it’s a fine balance of letting the scene play and commenting. The trauma some characters face is too nuanced to try and explain… thanks for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it!
@@holddowna The entire movie is a litmus test of which viewers have abandonment issues and which ones don't. Not just that scene, but Will's entire method of sabotaging himself (getting into fights, insulting people, pushing people away) in every aspect of his life
I personally dislike that so many empathize with will but hate Jenny in Forest Gump. They are the same character except one is a dick to everyone to push them away and the other runs away from everything.
I guess it must come down to perspective. "If you love something you have to set it free" in which he doesn't think he's good enough, he's never felt unconditional love before and doesn't believe he is worthy of hers, or able to accept that he can be loved. Self destruct. Isn't that the main point of the film though, not how genial he is but how his past shouldn't dictate his future.
Him being a genius is more a mcgufin than it is important to the story.🤷

My all time favorite story of Robin Williams is the time he hospitalized a woman... with laughter. It wasn't intentional, but it did happen. Robin was a guest on "In the Actor's Studio" with host James Lipton in 2001. The show aired for a long time and episodes usually ran for an hour or so. Robin was on for 3-4 hours, so the televised version of his appearance was greatly abridged to say the least. As expected he turns it up way past 11 and is just absolutely hilarious. During the show, you can hear a woman laughing very hard and very frequently, so much so that even Robin commented on it. Well, by the end of 4 hours with Robin Williams doing what he did best, the poor woman ended up with a hernia from laughing so hard, and had to be taken to hospital.
Robin brought so much love, laughter and joy to our world, while at the same time he suffered in silence... We are all so very lucky to have shared time with him on this planet, and we are all so greatly diminished by his loss. RIP Robin, we miss you.

It’s a shame the major studios don’t make too many films like this anymore. The best hope for a film like this these days is streaming. I like my tentpoles, don’t get me wrong, but for me, films like this are the ones I typically remember. Based on current box office trends, I’m hoping they decide films like this are worth making more of again.
I watched a clip on hot ones of Matt Damon talking about DVD sales being huge and they don’t have that anymore. He said something like these movies they are harder to make now..But I’m with ya I hope they invest in these amazing stories… thanks for watching!!
That teardrop when you saw the monologue done by Robin was just....yeah, it's heartbreaking what happened to him. He was a lot of my childhood. He's just an unbelieveably bubbly and amazing person, with a gigantic range of acting talent.
Btw, if no one had mentioned this in the comments, yes, Robin did adlib the story of Sean's wife when Will Hunting first opened up in his therapy. And the adlib was so uncalled for and so funny, the cameraman laughed as well. You can see how the camera shaked at the point where Matt Damon lost it (yeah he's not in character anymore at that point)

I met Robin on the street once in San Francisco as I was checking out the neighborhood and he was walking his dog (as I recall). We actually stopped and talked for about five minutes or so. He was as genuinely brilliant and graceful and kind in person as you would imagine him to be.
Robin Williams truly was a national treasure. We're lucky enough his life and works are preserved on film for generations to continue to enjoy.
When Ben & Matt wrote the script they wanted Robin Williams for the part he plays. However, they had no chance of paying the amount of money for him. The script arrived to Robin and after reading the script he insisted to play the part
The Robin Williams monologue at the pond is the greatest monologue in all of cinema history imo. Rip to the King.
Minnie Driver is perfect in this film. She was nominated for FIVE prestigious awards (including Best Supporting Actress) and won British Supporting Actress of the Year. She would have won the Oscar that year were it not for Juliette Binoche (The English Patient).
Oh I’ve never seen the English patient I heard it’s good! She was phenomenal in this. I heard they really fought to have her in this!

@@holddowna I suspect you'll have to have patience for The English Patient. I've only ever seen it once, when I was much younger, and I just remember that it seemed to take forever, dragged, and nothing important or relevant ever happened in it. I was bored senseless -- but I know that plenty of people think it was great, so clearly younger me wasn't in the right frame of mind to understand or enjoy what it had to offer.
I went to Boston for the history, but couldn't help making my way to the park where they filmed the bench scene. Luckily, people pointed it out to me. I walked up to it and on the walking path in front of the bench were all sorts of different Robin Williams quotes written in chalk by all sorts of different visitors. I didn't speak, I just stood there, reading all the quotes, even some from Dead Poet's Society, and there it was..."Your Move Chief". I was never more grateful for Robin Williams than I was at that moment, and I grew up watching him in Mork & Mindy. A lot of celebrities have left us, but none hurt as much as losing him. Luckily, we can watch him and listen to him, and most importantly...we can laugh with him.

I am a foster parent to a kid that reminds me a lot of will. He's moved almost a dozen times in 7 years and still has picked up math like it's nothing with a crazy good memory. It might seem weird why Will won't just attach to someone, but when you have no idea if you're going to be loved or left from one day to the next by the people who are supposed to care for you, you just can't open yourself up like that. I hope someday my kiddo will find a way to open up and work with his feelings and find a healthy path, but it's really up to him

I love the fact that he didn't answered about the 285 bench.. he knew he'd never bench that weight and that's why he was scared when Sean grab him. He immediately felt the physical strength. So that's another closed door for him. Can't beat Sean physically, can't beat Sean mentally. Hands down.

On a serious note, this is my favorite role from Robin Williams. This movie is SO well written, and is one of my favorites. Williams' performance is so calm, and caring, yet stern and strong. This movie, and Williams' performance had such an impact on me as a mid-20's person when it was released. Such a moving film.

I am 43 years old and everytime he says its not your fault, it hits me in the heart, i had a rotten childhood, with S A etc and i stil believe its my fault nobody loved me.
If you still feel that way, maybe you need to listen to that clip more often. Robin Williams saying it's not your fault. Take daily, like medicine. Btw, it's not your fault.
I am a Marine and truly respect ur reaction to movies not based on war but the men who fought some of us never truly came back at least not completely. Seeing ur nonmilitary reviews vs the military ones never loose that innocents or hatred for not only war but the compassion for the men. I don't think many feel as u do. The reason we do it is for everyone but mainly so ppl like u do not have to lose that innocence and accept war. Ur hearts r to pure.

Robin Williams was one of the best dramatic actors ever. You mentioned Dead Poets Society, but don't forget WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP, with Williams in his first dramatic role. It was this role that cast the mold for his wise, perceptive and funny approach to a character. His best role in my book.

I grew up watching Mork & Mindy. I also saw his movies and his interviews on late night talk shows. When my local news announced his passing I couldn't believe it. I thought he would be around forever. Then the news anchor said many began posting to their social media accounts a picture of themselves standing on desks with the caption "Oh captain my captai!" That was it. Reality set in. I felt like I lost a close family member. I wasn't ready for him to go. I feel like much of my childhood was anchored around him. With his loss that childhood also was lost. The world seems to slowly change into some place I no longer recognize with each passing of people like him.
I just found you and you are amazing. This movie always makes me cry, but you made me cry even more and it felt so good. Your empathy and sense of humour hits like a lighting. This was like therapy for me.
I feel in real life we would be really good soulmates and friends, at least.

in 2004 I was stationed in Germany at the hospital in Lanstuhl. Robin Williams was doing an USO show and because I was an escort to wounded soldiers, I was able to sit in the VIP area with the wounded and high ranking officers. It was an awesome experience I was able to get him to sign my hat. The man was so hyperactive and I will never forget meeting him.
Yeah, great monologues and dialogues, very powerful stuff, well worth the cry!
Trivial fact about Robin Williams: my first "encounter" with him was with the show "Mork and Mindy", way before your time; he played a character that was very typical of him.

As for Robin, he truly was a genius and I think that is a major factor in his final decision. In a moment of clarity, he knew he was only going to get worse and one of the defining characteristics of his life, his mind, was what was being attacked. My father was a genius, when it came to basic math and construction. You could call out four 4 digit numbers and he could add them faster in gis head than you could on a calculator. He quit school in like the 6th grade to go to work full time, to help out him and his 10 brothers and sisters. So he would have trouble doing calculus but only because he lacked that education. He could also look at a blueprint of a building and quickly figure out how much of each material(lumber, metal, plumbing, wiring, etc) was needed to build it. It was painful seeing him go through Alzheimer's in his final years. I know he hated it, in his moments of clarity.

Every year on the anniversary of Robin Williams death I watch this movie, and the week prior to that day I binge watch all of his movies or at least the ones that I have and I save good will hunting for the actual day and it’s become a personal tradition of mine. I don’t exactly share it with anybody. It’s just kind of my thing, but I love doing that to remember him.

I think this is the movie that best captures true male bonding and friendship. Good, valuable friends are the ones that challenge you straight up, because they see your true potential and feel outraged that you're not realising it. Ones that will even fight you so your coin drops. I always say that one right of passage that probably many women don't experience is to have been punched hard in the face once in their lives - for young men, it's almost a universal experience, as the aftermath (if you're a self-reflecting individual) grounds your thoughts and make you reflect if - maybe - you actually deserved it. That's why in many occasions teens might exchange blows with each other and bloody themselves up and become best friends later.
This script is brilliant in that it encapsulates not only the process of confronting trauma, and healing, but it's also the coming of age, when a young smart boy realises that the journey is not just accumulate knowledge, but rather wisdom. The wisdom that transforms a boy into a man. And wisdom is a gift of lived experiences, the good and the bad ones.
I rewatch this movie every now and then, because it's a masterpiece.

I already knew i liked watching your movie reactions, but after hearing how much you like Rounders you might be number one on the movie reactor list now! I've got to be at least in the double digits of how many times I've watched Rounders.
For over 9 years, I could not bring myself to watch anything with Robin Williams in it because his death hit me so hard in my heart. I saw you reviewed this movie and it took a lot in me to watch it. Thank you for making this, because I needed to get through that barrier to finally start healing from that.

Man Robin Williams was such a big part of my childhood. I miss him.
Recently I randomly decided to watch a movie called "Absolutely Anything" because Simon Pegg was the star. Only to later realize that film was the last thing Robin Williams was in.

The first time i watched this it’s not your fault scene made me cry my eyes out. Coming from a emotional abusive family and also dealing with abandonment issues myself, that scene broke me. To this day i can't watch that part without crying my eyes out.
I got to see Robin Williams perform live in a one-man improv show in the mid-1980s. He was amazing, Ames you would have loved it!! 😜

I couldn't take it seroiuly, at least the premise. But I'm glad you enjoyed it! With that cast you are at least going to get a well acted movie.
It wasn't an alpha-dog confrontation in Sean's office, it was Will trying to preemptively get Sean to quit on him by pushing his buttons as he did with the previous (5) therapists. It's a protective/defensive mechanism.
