Ecco the Dolphin (1993) - Story Cutscenes (4k, 60FPS, AI Upscaled)

As the final touch to our upscaling and interpolating for this game, we went to 4k and tweaked some parameters for the upscaling and it doesn't look as oversharpened and fake in certain areas.

What I love of these cutscenes is that they show the emotions Ecco felt during his journey. The part where he uses his sonar to try to find his pod after they are kidnapped is specially sad

OMFG, this is jaw-droppingly beautiful
the Sega CD and Windows (95?) release, while mind blowing for the time period it was released in, had not aged well at all
mainly w/ the artifacting
but this
THIS
is even more bittersweet...
the restorataion (4k, 60FPS, AI Upscaled) in display here is a reminder that the series (like so many others from that era) is dead and gone
(disappeared into the tides of time)
being denied what might have been for Ecco 3 involving
"the war between the Atlanteans and the Vortex (and their *planet)"
sadly, if it were released today, i dont think it would meet the hype and expectations like so many other things from my youth (a'la GnR's follow up Chinese Democracy)

it feels like theres somethings missing.
IIRC there was a short clip of 2 sharks chasing after Ecco in one of the earlier "chapters"
or am i experiencing the Mandela effect?
also love how when he arrives back to "the hour of the storm" everything is pulled with ease into that vacuum Tube
but Ecco?

I loved this... when I've played the game, I've done what you did; Ecco using his echolocation to try and find his pod, and swimming around. It always broke my heart but in my imagination, that's how he'd react.

This is legitimately amazing, I remember this game so fondly from my childhood and to rewatch the scenes in a quality I never even thought of seeing them in is wild. Thank you for the upload!

originally ecco came out for the sega genesis without these cutscenes, but when they ported it to PC later on, these were added :)
