When I was in my early 20's. I was homeless for an entire summer. I got a job at a junkyard, and would stay in a van there. Until the owner found out. He hooked me up with a old camping trailer, and became onsite, overnight security there (to keep things legal and on the up and up with zoning). He helped me get back on my feet. But I do have to say. Looking back at it. It was some of the most peaceful nights I have had in my entire 50 years of my life.
i liked your camping in the junk yard . i use to live in a van at a junk yard years ago . i was the night watch man because people would come in at night and steal tires and gas from the junk cars . so i had a van fixed up with car rear seats for the beds
I just read the description on the video! What a great idea. You know, we live in a great country...and a great county can't be great without far out ideas. Wouldn't it be cool to have a once a year weekend where dozens of people come out and spend the weekend living in the junk yard! All the proceeds could go to a great charity.
Remember you do adventures made from scratch videos so roughing it in a junkyard scrap yard is an adventure made from scratch just hope you had fun doing it
We did junkyard camping years ago to stop the thieves that was sneaking in to steal parts & catalytic converters in a friend's yard in Pennsylvania, once they figured out that we was there at night ,the thefts stopped completely, especially when some of us was armed ,they don't even bother coming thru anymore
I travel down to my work....once I'm there I string up a hammock most nights. I tie it to the building, or the trailer, or a dump truck bed It is great fun to sleep under the stars and watch the campfire. Very cool!
Haha just thinking that I'm only a few blocks from you and here you are sleeping at the yard in a bus lol. Thats freaking awesome! Lol. Great vid buddy!
I just found your channel and am enjoying so much.....I've currently going back and watching your videos from the beginning. Thanks for posting them....
I thought this was a little weird but got to reading the remarks below and was amazed at the memories that these nice folks reminisced about...all brought on by your adventure made from scratch.
Hello from Tunica, Mississippi. I enjoyed this video and really liked hearing the train in the distance. Looked like a fun adventure. Keep the videos coming.
Looks like fun. Just proves there's an adventure right in your own backyard. Next time a few creature comforts will make it a better camp. If you do it again bring us along!
I'd be afraid of some kind snake 🐍 coming in & biting me while sleeping in one of those cars and I'm horrified of snake's. It sounded like there was a rattlesnake in that area of the minivan's you were looking in😳😱🙊
Come to think of it, my parents took us 5 kids camping throughout the summer every year until we started getting interested in hanging out more with our friends. But anyway, we made tents out of old sheets & tarps. We fished till wee hours of the mornin. So many amazing memories I'd love to revisit. Thanks for sharing😊
Very COOL, My bro and i used to do the same thing when we were kids. We would hike from Scott City to the lake 12 miles north with nothing but a bow and arrows and a pot to boil things in. We would usually get a rabbit or squirrel to eat along with some fish sometimes. We would stay 3 or 4 nights. Was a great time.
I liked how you made this a real Junkyard Camp Out. You didn't really bring anything from the outside and thats what made this video awesome and original. You could've easily bought all sorts of things to make this camp out easy, but you used what was around you and had a true campout. Sometimes thats what life is about is just taking in your surroundings with no distractions and I hope you had a good time out there. Subscribed and enjoy your channel. Especially the hidden treasure videos where you find cool and valuable stuff in abandoned cars. Those are going to make your channel huge. keep it up man. Thanks for sharing.
I know to someone like me, who has not done what you do for a living wouldn't understand but from my point of view, I would have a BALL having a place like that. I love to make stuff and fiddle around now that I am retired, but I admit I make a lot of costly mistakes experimenting. If i had access to cheap misc stuff like you do I would be in heaven.
True the owner loves to crush things. However the owner was unable to crush your dream. Nevrr alow any one to crush the silver wings of your golden dreams.
Wow, pretty cool Silas. Neat to hear the coyotes yip yapping. Sometimes I hear grey wolves at my place. I'd like to see you take some target practise with your 40SW at some of the junkyard targets. Cool. Love those old farm trucks in the background.
Great adventure, Silas. Sounds very peaceful at night except for the coyotes. LOL I could get used to that. When I was younger, we camped in a junkyard in Texas and I ended up sleeping in the backseat of a 60 Lincoln. We walked around the yard at night with flashlights and lanterns and it was creepy for sure. A lot of unexplained noises.
Hi mate, late comment but binge watching your channel from Australia and loving it. Your camping in the junkyard reminds me of a Aussie classic movie 'The Castle' where Daryl builds a holiday home in the boonies. His famous quote used here in oz often is 'how's the serenity' (a cracking movie if you have the chance to see it - might take a few viewings to understand our humour but don't worry, we've all watched it many times and still find new bits to laugh at...bit like Crocodile Dundee! ). It came to me as I watched you camping in the junkyard. Serenity. So, my opinion is that you allowed some comforts, mattress, tent, a fire and cook-up etc. I would have done it in my swag for sure. I was drawn to your comment about middle of the night being woken by the coyotes (we have dingo's here - they howl, an amazing sound few have experienced...but I digress). My great times aussie bush camping are those wake ups in the middle of the night, getting up and just gazing at the amazing night sky....nothing beats it. Keep up the videos but don't chase the money off u-tube - keep the fun in it. You will burn out if you think you need to maintain the video output rates - take a breath, you enjoy your work, keep it simple and stick to what's important - keeping it real and enjoying life. And the Serenity!
That's cool , I've been watching the channel alot lately and turned some friends on to it , interesting and always something pretty cool happening and I've learned alot about the rules and or the way scrap it sorted out
HI SILAS--This is so funny but GREAT ! Camping out is to have fun your son and your little girl it would be nice to see them there to and a little fire pit cooking with hot dogs and marshmellos ...? over all this was great . oh, I went camping with my friends we use to throw rocks up to the sky and the bats would chase them and I liked the lighting bugs PEACE THANKS..
LOL. 😂 Talk about an adventure made from scratch. It had me thinking about Goldilocks and the three bears, "this bed's too hard, this bed's too soft..." That was a whole lotta fun Silas, worth more than one view. Thanks. 👍👍👍👍👍 PS: Your comment sections are just as good as your videos.
@12:22 definitely a great option, just carry over the bench seat from the Dodge full size van & put it in the bus or find other clean cushions & use them
Sunsets are fine and they happen every day. What I liked seeing is that fastback Chevrolet. Bringing a cot/air mattress maybe a blanket and a grill would make your experience more pleasant. Thanks for the video.
That did one thing besides give me the heebee jeebees, proved to me u are doing this for us as much as u. Honestly not that it matters that much but it's nice to know. Thanks for playing along and personally I'm good on the overnight adventures. Watching videos is something I like to imagine or appreciate in that sitch. Um no thank u to nasty pillows and no food!!!! I know this is older but I just found u a few days ago and have been binge watching every since, so im all over the place!!!! Emily
What an adventure! The only time I slept in a junkyard, the camper I was in had a leak, it rained hard and I woke in the middle of the night soaking wet!
That was a cool adventure Silas. I like the fact you have all that open land and all those cool cars. Land here in Mesa Az is so expensive no one has much of it. I am amazed to see prickly pear cactus in Kansas. I've been ground camping sleeping in a mummy bag up near an area we call Sycamore creek about 25 miles up in the hills and actually had Coyotes digging through the chili cans we left in the fire from dinner right next to me. I love camping but these days around here unless you go all the way up a remote mountain accessible only by foot you will have people bugging you in the middle of the night and we don't leave home without my loaded .357 and my wife's 9mm.
Thank you Silas - 2.0 - yes. Walking around some more, before sundown, would give us a bit better lay-of-the-land. Your choice was great - nice older bus! Chuck in NE Kansas
Really great idea! But you are tougher than me, I'd use so camping gear. I love camping and I'm a gearhead too. So it's cool to see all that old iron there.
I could smell the inside of the vehicles and mobile homes through my phone. Good idea but no good for your health. I think you could have got a mozy net on a camper roof. Think it might have been a better night if you picked up a chicken to cook on open fire. Nothing wrong with a beer. This is daily living. If you going for Hobo rules. But cool video. Thanks. Good idea.
When you were getting up and spanned the camera around I saw an old Skyhook truck mounted ladder in the back ground. I worked for them back in the 70's.
We used to go camping beside a 5,350 acre lake in North Carolina, water front. Using my Dad’s 1952 Willys Overland pick up with 18 inch sideboards and a canvas top. I bought a 1930’s Philco radio powered by a 90 volt and 1 1/2 volt battery just like the army used. A couple of drunk guys next door offered and three of us took a wild boat ride one afternoon cutting full throttle water donuts and figure eights in one of those 1950’s boats with fins like the old 1958 Plymouth. My Dad never knew about that and we never told. Camp on! Let us know if stealth camper Steve Wallis shows. My luck, I would over sleep and wind up un the crusher.
Really cool idea
This is so awesome!!
nice idea and definitely original

Dawn chorus we call it here in the UK when it just getting light and the birds burst into song, great videos
Lots and lots of old farm trucks. Its a feast for the eyes seeing some of the stuff there.
Such a cool idea!!
Thanks for taking us along!
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. You're a lucky man to have land like that. 🙂
That was cool, enjoyed the tour
A very fun video. Thanks.

I like that idea! I would drive up to Kansas for that.
@@richardveazey3457 Now your talkin! Imagine the good conversations around a bon fire.
That is a great idea! I'm too far away in Oregon. But if I were closer I'd love to do that!
@@dapapadon1829 Too far? Not if you get a running start! We need you there for the ribbon cutting! I"ll bring the camera

super great thanks
you make great video's
I slept in a junkyard once, cops was looking for me didn't have a choice. Lol. Great video.
That's the fun part, take plenty bird shot for the old 12 gage ,
That was fun. Thanks!
I travel down to my work....once I'm there I string up a hammock most nights. I tie it to the building, or the trailer, or a dump truck bed
It is great fun to sleep under the stars and watch the campfire. Very cool!
Wow , that bus looked damn near perfect on the outside
The previous owner was going to make a camper out of it, then he bought one already done.

That field of old vehicles is my idea of heaven!
Roast turkey for breakfast next time 😄 👍
One more night sleeping in the wild and you qualify to join the 10th Mountain Division. Just need a little snow to keep you cool at night.
👍Crashin’ at the junk yard! How cool is that?! This man is definitely dedicated to his TH-cam channel. Good stuff.
I just found your channel and am enjoying so much.....I've currently going back and watching your videos from the beginning. Thanks for posting them....
You did good. I use too do that when I was younger now that I am 63 it would be good 👍
Heck yeah! Camping is awesome! Do another😁
2.0 version maybe take the kids and make it a family thing.
Hello from Istanbul\TURKEY!
Love your videos !
Man, you brave! Lol.
I'm sure you could turn this into a Sasquatch sighting fairly easy. I've seen some strange things out there by the river.
I thought this was a little weird but got to reading the remarks below and was amazed at the memories that these nice folks reminisced about...all brought on by your adventure made from scratch.

@19:29 I love the sound of trains ,& train horns at night as well as all the crickets 🦗,I probably sleep real good after the train passes
Would make a change from counting sheep as we do in my country.
That was cool! Lots of awesome cars and trucks there! Spotted some cool Cadillacs! That GMC Astro is awesome!!!
Enjoyed the video, that said I'm glad it was you and not me. Next time I think you deserve a couple creature comforts. 🙂
this is Great! love the idea of going in with nothing but water
Great video something different. Do it again.
Looks like fun. Just proves there's an adventure right in your own backyard. Next time a few creature comforts will make it a better camp. If you do it again bring us along!
