  • I am using Unison pastels and a selection of pastel pencils to create a pastel seascape. The paper used is Art Spectrum which can handle a water or my choice, vodka, to liquify the pastel. I usually run workshops locally in Wimborne, Dorset, these workshops started as a way of reaching my regulars during the Covid 19 outbreak. Which fixative do you use Nina? You mentioned using one about half way through xx

I probably mean that the vodka acts as a fixative, so keeping the pastel from moving around after I create a base layer. If I use a fixative, which is rarely, only if I am sending artwork in the post, I just use a good quality pastel fixative from Winsor and Newton. I work on sanded papers and the alcohol resets the pastel binder, so I find with careful handling that I get little drop off once framed.
