I’ve caught all 4 of my salmon and my brown trout on rooster tails this year! Everyone at my local hole was mind blown when they saw me catching cause they were all doing bobber down so I decided to do something different. Caught a 31 inch brown trout
Good to see ya getting the tail end of the run Ivo! I’ve been able to get down there consistently this year and the general consensus between everyone is that the whirlpool has been the best it’s been in years for the salmon! Hopefully it stays good for trout season. Cheers!
Nice video as usual, I need to use lighter rod and reel, i live in NW Michigan, fish boat-less, for Salmon/steelhead etc. I will drop down to 8# when I need too, could you recommend a couple options, your set-up worked great ! Thanks
Surprised you didn't hook into a Laker or two...they load up into the Lower this time of year. I have yet to land a steelhead on an inline spinner (I have hooked steelhead on spinners, yet to land one), but have landed dozens of lake trout this time of year on Stingeyes of various color and sizes. Lake trout love 'em. Unless the Lower is very clear...it's usually pretty stained this time of year...you can run heavy lb test line no problem, 15-20 lb fluoro is fine. I've caught lakers on 20-30 lb braid tied directly to the spinner.
when fishing for steelhead, be sure to use a fluorocarbon or mono leader...avoid tying direct with braid as fish can see braid,. use a uni-knot to tie your flouro to your braid th-cam.com/video/Aw5hl0Lynlw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=prvlKH_vVIqdm21d
Great video! It's great to still see some salmon in the lower. I've been trying at port dalhousie for trout and salmon with roe and cleos and even my j13 lure. And I still can't catch any. Is there anything else I can use? Thank you
one of the key things is to ensure you cut off your tag ends very close to your knots and the other thing is to tie your bait or hook line, off the middle "T" part of the t-turn :)
you can use the smaller stingeye spinners, or, you can use the t-turn and bottom bounce a Thundermist Eye-Drop, or a bead or a roe bag, further, you can use a bobber and below it, run a an Eye-Drop or an artificial minnow, or a bead or a roe bag - good luck
I went fishing! But I got more big fish got away stories than fish , it's now turned into a war between me and the big walleyes that spit hooks back at me .... 😢
I was using size #4 Stingeye Spinner :) If I was fishing a creek or a smaller body of water, I would scale down to size #3, but size #4 is my favorite in this big water :)
Your fish handling skills are awful, please don't promote such bad handling. If you aren't eating fish just take a picture while its in the water and let it go. And invest in a net that is not harmful to them. Handling how you do increases the chances of them dying ten fold
I was having Thundermist withdrawals. Thanks for posting.
This is one of the first fishing channels I ever watched and I never stopped
...you just made my day...thanks for tuning in and for being a long time subscriber :)

besides using the Stingeye spinner, you can use a t-turn and bottom bounce a thundermist eye-drop, or a bead or a roe bag - good luck on the water

Ivo I’m not sure why but I always get tangled and line twists with the no tangle and no line twist t turns any tips to stop that from happening?

Is that gondola ride does that go over whirlpool
yes :)
New viewer. Are you in the PNW or somewhere near the UP / east coast. Would love to fish sometime in the UP if you're around!
...niagara river.....
Do Great Lakes salmons die after spawning?
Most of them do - yes
What an awesome fishing day for you. Do you have any recommendations on creek fishing setup for trout or steelhead. Thank you

I'm curious, would they still be good eating when they turn dark?
Nope
Nice vid! Do you allow subs to fish with you?
...would love to but honestly, just too difficult....thanks for the offer though :)
what size spinner were you using for steelhead?
I was using size #4 Stingeye Spinner :) If I was fishing a creek or a smaller body of water, I would scale down to size #3, but size #4 is my favorite in this big water :)

Braided line is a joke,Iam using straight flourocarbon,12 lb test, gets it done
