  • Air Manager is an extremely capable and modular application for Microsoft Flight Simulator as well as others that provides full touch screen support as well as just a standard screen for aircraft monitoring gauges.

    I’m not a developer and I don’t have much of a technical background but I learned to make instruments & panels from scratch in a couple of months.
    Air Manager is more than worth the time to learn.

    I created a cockpit panel with two touch screens and air manager. The nice thing is that instead of buying g1000 hardware I can do the same thing on my screens and change it out to any aircraft setup so you are not limited to one aircraft. The two monitors and software was probably under $500 and add in a knobster for another $100 and it's amazing. The payware comanche panel used with the a2a comanche is super realistic and amazing

      Does a knobster add much to it? Or is it a fancy luxury

    • @Backcountrysimpilot
      @Backcountrysimpilot 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@adambarlow7435 I like the knobster especially for the comms and autopilot. It adds a lot of function if you are using air manager because most panels us it.

    In planes with Garmin panels, a Knobster is essentially mandatory. It's not the least expensive peripheral, but if you're using a G1000, you just have to throw for one.

    • @averestless
      @averestless 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Made my own with a dirt cheap Arduino Nano clone and a dual encoder. The dual encoder was the "expensive" part but the cost for all was still below 10 usd. And you can as well use two separate encoders instead (way cheaper than the dual encoder but the formfactor will be different), then it will cost next to nothing.
      Air Manager provides the possibility to flash an Arduino Nano as Knobster.

      @@averestless Great idea-- definitely saves money. Russ Barlow, the retired military and airline pilot, who makes some of the finest flight-sim videos on TH-cam (and introduced thousands of us to Air Manager) has done a few on his clever use of Arduinos, but he still uses a Knobster or two in his setups. If one is hard pressed for funds, an Arduino/enumerator is a very good consideration. Although, Sim Innovations has been charging US$99, I feel that it's some of the best money I've spent on flight simming

    • @Buddy308
      @Buddy308 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      One additional feature of the Knobster is the software plug-in, KnobFS, that Sim Innovations provides free. It allows the Knobster to be used in VR to perform a very wide variety of functions that one would otherwise have to somehow mouse-click or use keyboard assignments to complete. But KnobFS allows all that to be done in the VR cockpit as long as one can find his Knobster blindly, a very easy thing to do. th-cam.com/video/5jvMnJuFivY/w-d-xo.html
      I would assume that KnobFS would work with the Arudino-based alternative that @averestless mentions IF SimInnovations now allows it to be "flashed" so that the Arduino is recognized as a genuine Knobster, but the original homemade substitutes would NOT work with KnobFS. If it's now possible to do that, it would be a superb way to use that home-brewed "Knobster" since the aesthetics don't matter in VR -- out of sight, out of mind.

    • @ottopilot6536
      @ottopilot6536 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Knobster I would say is essential for getting the most out of AM. They're relatively cheap to make. A dual concentric knob is like $12 from Propwash Simulations, and an Arduino Nano is just a few bucks. If you're handy at all with wiring, it's an easy build.
      You only need to have 1 Knobster, but if you really want more versatility, having one for each touch screen is amazing. I have 4 touch screens with a Knobster for each. I wouldn't go back after having that.

    This application becomes very important for Instrument Training (practicing at home, not logging hours or anything), especially when you train IRL in one particular aircraft that has a different panel than what is offered in an equivalent, existing flight sim aircraft.

      I'm a bit disappointed about the premium panels as there are next to none for msfs 2020. 33 panels but 19 for msfs20, 1206 instruments but only 763 for msfs20 and a lot of repeats.

    I recommend this touch panel. Amazon. I have it, in MSFS with Air Manager, works great ! I don't worry that it's not 1080p. With such a small screen the dots per square inch is very dense. Takes way less fps than denser screens. None of the quality control issues with other off brand imports.

      That may well be true.
      However, we in the shadows (whisper quietly) about "FS Ten", we admit to knowing nothing of this mysterious, "X", of which you speak.
      Sadly, some of us still have to return to the earlier tenth version of Microsoft's Flight Software. Yes, I said, "software", & not simulator, because... well, y'know. 🙃
      Our sadness, and shame, come from not having the right Aircraft available.
      So thanks for nowt, Aerosoft{in_the_head) & Asobo{ring}! I don't care if it wasn't the best sim experience, ya shouldn't've taken away the DHC-6 without having a better one ready. Twotters rule.

      I also mostly fly VR but I do use Air Manager and love it. I made a 172 instrument panel with a 27" monitor behind a 1/4" plywood panel with 3d printed bezels and encoder, switches and diy throttles. All driven from a 2nd, very old, laptop running Air Manager. Works great whether I'm in VR or not. I adjust my zoom and position of the view in VR so it aligns with my panel IRL. Just reach out and bam.

      Built a diy knobster (dual encoder and Arduino nano w/3d printer enclosure). They work great with a touchscreen but eventually I went down the diy cockpit route and have separate switches, encoders etc for everything. I hate using controllers while swimming. They just hit everything and get in the way. A Trackball mouse is great though, don't have to lift the headset to find a mouse!
