    I've played the guitar for about 20 years, mostly without a teacher, and it's just amazing how simple things like softening my eyes and tong have instantly made me comfortable with a lot of stuff. Tks a lot for this!

    the way you describe the flappy hand. omg. yes!! been searching for someone to put it in the right words and show me the action. THAT IS EFFORTLESS> immediately made my song sound better

    Looking good! I have great problems with tensing up whenever I try to play, and it causes me no end of problems. Your videos are truly making good changes for me in learning my beautiful guitar. I had the good luck, some years ago, of buying an Esteve Spanish Classical guitar from Spain, and it has a voice like warm honey, and is so beautiful to see and hold it's like no other guitar. Now you're helping me to, at long last, learn how to make it sing. Thank you!!!!

    You are a genius. I agree with everything you're saying and doing what feels good has become a theme in my life. I talk about it with my girlfriend ALL the time. I've even said a lot of the things you've said. I've always been able to play all kinds of things on guitar and people say I'm "really good" but I've been on a quest to relieve all the tension in my playing, and constantly ask my body what it wants me to do. Your perspective and advice helps SO MUCH. I've been heading in this direction with all the things your saying, and this helps even more. Thank You :)

      +David D Thanks so much, David, I am truly glad to help. If you're serious about the tension habits, you may investigate taking Alexander Technique lessons (if you can find a local teacher). It's been a game-changer for me. Thanks again, Allen

    I want a lot. That is in guitar and music ability. You are a very interesting and enlightening fellow methinks. I love what you say about mental pollution. Softening The Eyes And Defocusing The Eyes. What a great concept to work on. All the things you talk about are things I really like to think about, to improve the quality of one's life.

    Your left shoulder is higher than the right shoulder, therefore you have overcompensated towards the right.

    fantastic video. I'll definitely be signing up to your program. a question: what about the fretting hand? a friend said that it should be gently more clenched from the fingers themselves....any ny thoughts?

    • @ClassicalGuitarShed
      @ClassicalGuitarShed  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Joel, The fretting hand makes many complex movements. It's better to begin with a good basic shape ("C shape", wrist not too angled), and then focus on removing excess tension. If you try to add some specific tensions, you may end up overdoing it. As a long-term strategy, subtraction is better than addition. I hope that makes some sense. Thanks!

    it is so counterintuitive, but in order to play fast and have great tone you need to be very relaxed.
