I hope you'll post a community comment when you can, to let us know that you're all safe from the flooding. I worry about you like you were family. You're in my prayers, along with everyone in the storm's path.
"No, I have no idea what you are saying ". I hear this often too lol. My husband is definitely the builder, fixer, doer. Thank God he is able to fix anything we have. Saved us thousands over the years. Happy Birthday ladies, i hope your day was blessed. Be safe in the upcoming storm we are getting lots of rain in middle Georgia
Praying for everyone in the path of Helene. She is throwing wind gusts around 40-50 in the central Florida area now. We will only get her outer bands so I’m very thankful for that. She is making a beeline for y’all with a lot of rain. Stay safe 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Wished I was your neighbor, I’d love helping ya to shell those peas and beans! You always have very interesting videos. I throughly enjoy watching them. You’ve got a good man in Matt. You can see the love as you two look at each other!
Thanks for sharing the drying rack. That looks to be a really nice unit. I've made "pumpkin pie" with squash for years. Even my picky brother never knew the difference.
Sending y'all prayers as this hurricane seems to be heading up your way and estimated to drop a whole lot of water. From no rain to all the rain. Prayers for everyone in the path.
Tipper I have not watched the video just yet but I want you to know I am and will be praying for all of you as the Tropical Storm seems to be heading your way. Please let us all know that y'all are ok after it passes. I will pray you do not loose power and have no damage. We all love y'all be safe.
Soon those little Chaps will be toddleing around. My Granny had drying screens on a rope and wheely thingamabob that she could lower down from the ceiling and load up with beans or apples, then she'd pull the rope on the wheely thingamabob and pull those drying screens right back up close to the ceiling and up out of the way from curious little fingers and the occasional renegade cat that might run in when the door was open. Lol. It really worked well and I still think it's ingenious!
Can I say that Matt’s facial expressions, while on the porch, are hilarious! 😂 I just laughed out loud! Those beans will be delicious this Winter and your pie looks delicious! I always love seeing your precious family! God bless y’all! 😀❤️🙏🏻
Hey Tipper, sending prayers that y’all stay safe amidst all of the devastation in Western NC. 🙏🏼❤️ (from Kim in the Piedmont, we wrote a few years ago).
My granny would make squash pies with baked acorn squash, and/or butternut squash, Making her filling was one of the few things I ever saw her use an electric blender for. We had old Osterizer blender, that was older than I was, and she just added everything to the blender jar and gave it a whirl. Then poured the blended filling into pie shells. I still love a good squash pie, some 5 decades later. I also love it baked without a crust, as a custard.
I'm praying for ya'll during this storm it looks to be going your way, I'm in High Point here in NC and its raining pretty good here now. Happy Birthday wishes to the girls!
Tipper y’all stay safe in the storm looks like a lot of rain and high winds. I’m in the upstate of SC and we are getting on and off thunderstorms with heavy rain since last night. Glad you showed me what to do with winter squash never knew you could use them as replacement for pumpkin. So Tipper you taught a 78 year old something today. Love your family. Happy Birthday Corie and Katie.
I love how Matt is always so complimentary of what ever you cook! He makes whatever he is eating look like it taste so good. My Daddy was always that way! You always knew he enjoyed what he was eating. Matt seems the same way! Enjoy!❤
How does Matt and the family stay so trim with you pumping out all of that delicious food all the time. 🤣😂 Has Matt or Austin got any more deer? Its running around the mid 70's here in upstate NY. Love it. Thanks for the video and have a very good day. 😀👍
Please be safe with this hurricane coming up!!!! Also, get your supplies ready in case the power goes out!!!! 💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏😘😘😘😘💐💐💐🌹🌹🌹😍😍💕💕💕💕🌈🌈🌈🌈. Thanks for sharing! Love, hugs and 🙏🙏🙏🙏.
Sending prayers to you guys that you and your family stay safe during the hurricane weather. You guys are awesome. Thank you for sharing your lives and families with us.✨️🧡💛🤎🎃🍂🍁🌻🙏🥰
👋♥️🙏♥️👋Sure wish I had some of those beautiful beans for this winter. And a piece of that pie right now. 😊. Y’all have a great week. Love to you all and may God bless you always. 👋♥️🙏♥️👋Jennifer, South Mississippi ♥️
Italian ladies' dry pasta on a sheet on a bed in a back room. You could do that with beans. Trays are nice, be great for herb drying. I love pumpkin pie. Like it for breakfast. Shelling peas or doing dishes is called physical meditation. As long as you don't let your mind wander or worry. Hi from rainy Oregon.
I totally love this family ❤ The baby’s cries…too sweet😊 then there’s baby Binks…too sweet. Tipper and Matt r the best! Happy Birthday wishes to Katie & Corie! ✨🎂💫🥳🎈
as a kid I remember stringing 2 ft long columns of beans in their pods and my aunt hung them around the house and by spring or summer they were dry and she'd take down a string or so to make beans when she needed them. Looked like decorations hanging there. Like when you see garlic woven and hanging.
I've seen green beens strung and dried like that. They called them "leather britches." Then when they were ready to eat them, they had to soak them. My family never did that. I would love to try them out to see if they taste different than canned or frozen.
I canned apple pie filling today, still have apples so I guess I will can more in a day or two! I got a 15 lb box of organic apples for $6 . Yes ,they were bad spots, misshaped, and some bug damage but for $6 I could not pass by these at our local flea market last Saturday.
I am so glad that I found your site. I had lots of relatives from around the Huntingdon, Tennessee area and also the bootheel of Missouri. Yall's accents remind me of them. I was always fascinated with canning and preservation because, of course, they all did the same kind of work that you guys do. I canned myself when I lived somewhere that we could garden. I really enjoy watching you two work together. My husband and I did the same thing. I miss those days. Thanks so much.
More greetings from rainy windy Oregon. That pie looks delicious. I read somewhere that the commercial canned pumpkin pie filling is not pumpkin, but it is actually Butternut squash! Surprise! I have a can of Butternut Squash here from the Oregon Food Bank which is just like pumpkin for baking pies. Thank you for reminding me that it is now Fall.😊
So, I made your hand pies for my son's birthday, and it was awesome! My son ate 2 after a great dinner and asked when we could have them again 😂😂😂 Thank you for introducing us to new recipes, books, ways of life, etc. You are literally touching us all and giving us a chance to experience your area.
It looks like your drying rack is designed so you can buy another unit and just stack it onto the one you have. It’s a nice piece, good luck with it. 😊
Tipper, thank you for another great video cooking and baking. That pie, wow! I want a slice, thank you.🥧 Thinking of you all in NC. I pray the 'ole hurricane will fizzle out and won't affect any area too much with too much rain. Please send us some rain up here in The Northeast. We are dry to the bone.

I don't have butternut squash this year but when I did I would quarter them and put them in the crockpot with a little water when I went to work in the morning. When I got home in the afternoon they were cooked and ready to scoop out of the shell. I'd let it cool and put it in 2 cup portions in freezer bags and lay flat in the freezer. I always used them for anything "pumpkin". I love sweet potatoes as a substitute too. I actually like sweet potato pie more than pumpkin.
This video came out right on time for me. I have been looking for different ways to cook and or preserve all of my butternuts from my garden this summer❤ Will be using my butternuts for pie!
