Btw, I rate all those comics too, esp. Hicks (+ I've STILL got a 'Lenny Bruce Live @ Carnegie Hall' LP that I found years ago in a charity shop for £0.50). Seeing Hicks' 'Relentless' on UK TV back in '92-ish, back when I was 16, was a watershed moment for me. Hicks was, IS, a legend: one that is sorely missed...

Yep, America has undergone a very steady intellectual rot - it used to be one of the better educated places in the world. Look at the books which were popular in the 1800's and compare them to what's popular now.....America has been systematically dumbed down for well over a century at this point.

I'm Doug Stanhope and that's why I drink ... I love that premise, all you have to do is change his name to your name, that excuse could apply to anyone, and it's my new excuse to drink. It used to be a day of the week, like " Hey it's Tuesday, let's drink some beers but after so many years, my boozing excuse could use a decent upgrade to at least make me sound partially credible.
