You have so much patience answering to all this question and letting people pose with your painting. I honestly wouldn't be able to concentrate on my painting if I had to make small talk on top of that. So I usually put my earphones and ignore everything around me. I'm a mean painter 😅
And not to mention letting people taking pictures like if they did it, I mean I would only let some people do it, as long as they dont look like clout chasers or influencers. Those people make me angry.
@@nutsandbolts1264 they are probably going to post the photos online too, and obv they are not going to give credit to the artist which I would find annoying but James is such a nice person maybe he wouldn't mind
I find when you play with people like that and let them play with you, it puts you in a more playful and upbeat mood, which ends up showing in your painting. Well done James, you're a real gentleman...!
I deeply appreciate your graciousness, patience, and engagement with the public as you paint. It's not easy, but the goodwill you show goes a long way.
I would honestly love to hear more stories about onlookers while you paint en plein air! It's always so fascinating to hear what other artists endure while working in public places. Once, while painting in an almost abandoned spot on a mountain, a family appeared, watched for a bit, then the father actually asked me, "Did you paint that?". 🤦
I love watching you draw and paint. Your patience is remarkable! People bothering me while I work would drive me insane. Especially interrupting me to hold my brush for a photo. LOL!
Your chat with USPS Delivery Truck "Closeout Guy", Lou, was simply fabulous. Your painting videos are both masterful and full of social documentary, which I am bewitched by. Thank you, Joan
First time viewing this artist and I think he's one of the best I've seen. Love his work and enjoyed the roses at the New York Botanical gardens. James Gurney is one of my favorites now.
You’re such a gentle soul, the way you threat people and painting with some much respect and gratefulness, you are such an inspiration in art and in life!! Love you!!
James I started using casein after watching you and I love it! I can only hope that with a lot of effort, one day I’ll be half as good as you. Your roses are beautiful and it took me a second to realize that you had switched from the actual roses to your painting! It’s kind of you to be so patient with people. I was sent over by Dianne Mize and I’m so thankful that she mentioned you. You and Jeanette are both so talented and I enjoy the contrast of your styles. It’s always a joy to watch your videos. Thank you, Julie 🥰☮️
You're a very patient and kind artist! If I'm working in a public area, I have my earphones in and basically shut everyone out. If someone wants to talk to me, I will take out one earbud, but other than that I'm left alone.
I was the featured Artist in Residence in the most public place, so I had to make an effort to be nice. I really like meeting people and answering questions, especially from kids, and most people are considerate.
Your talent is from other world. Watching your paintings as the whole process is the most soothing therapy when I have a hard day. Thanks for sparking with joy my life with your beautiful and wholesome art 💗
Besides learning a lot and take motivation from this episode I love watching you both painting together! Thank you and stay well and safe!Youare wonderful!
This is an older clip, but just as helpful, from his gumroad tutorial. I’ve grabbed all his videos and the books too. Although I really prefer the videos as they show things in action. Thank you sifu
I always enjoy your videos. What starts with a few loose brush strokes turns into a beautiful painting . I also like how you explain your techniques. Like a mini art class. Great work..take care ❤️ 🇨🇦
Such a cool painting. I would love to see you drawing in person. I love traditional painting but I find it's really hard. Thank to you I trying to pratice more, you are really inspiring.
Are you planning to paint any scenes from around your home under the circumstances? I'm painting things in my backyard that I probably should have spent time painting before. This whole lockdown situation has given me a chance to slow down and appreciate them more than I think I would have otherwise.
You're a dear. This was wonderful. Maybe, times being what they are, you keep a separate brush for tourists next time, along with a Monk handiwipe for the handle after.
They're just kidding. People who know them already know that they don't have the skills to do that kind of stuff, besides it's not like they could sell it anyway
It takes a lot of patients and forgiving spirit to be a nice guy. A strange observance; People avoid others that have a cell phone stuck to their head. Is there an unwritten rule on cellphone etiquette? 😉

Norm G I think you're right, thanks for that perspective. We should strive to see how our own reactions really affect us.
Me too, it’s the one reason I rarely paint out in public. I don’t like the attention.

I have to giggle. Posted 1 minute ago & already well over 200 views. It's five AM here. We love you, James ♥️
my favourite youtube experience: listening and watching the supremely skilled, patient, humble, and poetic James Gurney paint ....

Thank you James. I have loved watching your videos for years. Today I watched like a person starved for evidence of sanity and beauty.

I always enjoy your "savoir-faire" with the general public. I hope you get out to paint in the gardens again soon!
Beautiful, informative, inspiring and entertaining!
I love your paintings... Hope you can make a longer video, I'd be happy watching you painting for a little more minutes

How pleasant to watch, art, humour, everything.
I like the painting more than reality 😅 My friend, you are incredible.
I find casein challenging - yet I continue to practice it. This was helpful, thank you.

I've just finished several paintings within 10 miles of home that I'll be releasing in future videos.
@@JamesGurney Fantastic. Can't wait to see them.
You are fantastic!

your flower painting looks vaguely like a map of Europe.
Hey james, what do you think about the protests that are happening?
It's making me read more history more. I'm trying to step back from day to day events and see the broader parallels in what's happened before.
Love this
Nice outdoor painting sir......#artkrishna
Just started a Casein piece for the first time, boy does it dry fast. How does one deal with that 😳
4:56 I wouldn’t let them do that
They're just kidding. People who know them already know that they don't have the skills to do that kind of stuff, besides it's not like they could sell it anyway
I'd get pissed if they looked like some sort of influencer or clout chasers, those are the people that really piss me off
👍👍👍👍
roses are red violts are blue james gurney paints beautiful flowers just for u
very nice
Those tourists are so adorable :D But not when trying to work, I bet :D
What do you do with all this art you do:)
What is casiene?
It takes a lot of patients and forgiving spirit to be a nice guy. A strange observance; People avoid others that have a cell phone stuck to their head. Is there an unwritten rule on cellphone etiquette? 😉
You don't disrupt someone on a call, because then they can't hear the other person. That should be obvious.
I would like to see a video of yours on how to convert a tripod into a painting platform. I have the tripod..
check out the Facebook Group "SketchEaselBuilders" or my tutorial gurneyjourney.gumroad.com/l/sketcheasel
Do they pay you? Or tip?
I'd probably find it galling if somebody asked to pose with one of my paintings to 'pretend that they'd done it'. You're very patient.
Plain air invitational! Hmm didnt know that.
👏👏👏👍
I only have 10% of my brain left...so that's why I don't shower for three weeks before I paint plein air...works every time.
You’re a patient man James, I would have to draw the line at toilet directions 🤦♀️ you don’t work there after all!

10% of the brain! 😂🙈
Please put little simple tutorials too
U are so nice dude
Kinda odd folks asking to lose with a brush in their hands.
Sorry, I wouldn't be so accommodating to passersby.
why would people pretend to paint a painting?
Hahahaha pretending that they r painting 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Poor Chinese…
