Reason lot of youth players need to get back to the bag is to check the base coach for signs. I wouldn't want him taking signs off the bag and risk a pick off due to his attention being elsewhere. For the advanced, green-light player though, the advice is sound.
When I played high school baseball, I just ran. Like first pitch I was stealing second or third. So I always made a single into a "triple" from stealing
