I have seen all your videos. This is the best. I really do something with it. Compare. Compare. That’s what’s all about. My sons are also watching your videos now. You talk quiet, that’s good. You make them aware of good music
Thank you for the comparison video Michael! It really helps to know that these classic releases are similar sonically to the almost out of reach versions from the audiophile labels. So thanks again!
Michael as usual great video. This week I’ll receive 2 half speed Abbey (Stones) and 4 Tone poet records and I will have the opportunity to compare these jobs. Awating next video,
I’m very happy with my copies of the latest two classic releases. It’s fascinating to hear your opinions, which I value, so thank you. Looking forward to next months shootout!
Michael great comparison I picked the Horace Silver Song for the Father it sounds great I missed out on the SRX . I’m going to pickup the the Wayne Shorter Speak No Evil they sold out at a lot of shop I went to . Love you break down of the pressings . Lovellandrew
Always interesting to your thoughts on these Classic issues. Since I am fortunate enough to have all of the Music Matters issues, I am steering clear but it would be interesting to see if Kevin ever decided to take a different approach to the mastering with the Classics.
Hi Michael! Thanks for the reviews-very good as usual. I am still waiting for my preorders of the Real McCoy and The Sidewinder and I think I might receive my Song for My Father and Speak No Evil before the first two! Anyway, I don’t have any of the four titles, so it is helpful to get your opinion of them as they relate to other pressings. I am glad to hear what you say about the Bob Marley half-speed remasters. I was ready to go for them, thinking they would be big improvements over the originals, but I will continue looking for the originals instead. The ones I have already sound very good, so I won’t complain. Glad to not waste money I could spend on other records! Cheers!
I would love it if you would make an analogue album of the Brothers GRIMM fables, your soft voice would soothe and calm nervous "kinder"...like myself!!
I also got these titles just the other day, and there is regrettably strong distortion on the last track of first side of Songs for My Father. I see on Discogs that I am not alone in this.
Thanks for the heads up! I 've only bought the first two Classic Series releases so far and both were fine. However, I've had quite a few issues with Tone Poets - 25-33% of them, to the point I stopped buying them. I indicated accordingly in Discogs. Noone that reviews these Blue Note series (TP, 80 or Classic) on TH-cam ever appear to have any issues.
Awesome......!!! Thank you for the comparison. I hope you can do the same for the upcoming Classic Series for... Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else and Joe Henderson - Page One....?? Thanks in advance 🙏
Hi Michael very interesting video. I have made the decision not to buy any of these titles as I already have audiophile 45 or 33 editions. When they release something I don’t have I will try one. Your video has helped me to justify this decision to myself so thanks.
Another great video - I agree with your Bluenote vs Abbey Road cost/sound quality comparison. Half speed master from Abbey road with an OBI sounds/looks really impressive but appears to be another smoke and mirrors thing. That said, I also feel that people may be making too much of the Bluenote's being such a bargain. First off they aren't much cheaper than an Analog Productions release but are mass produced and may not hold their value as much. Not the biggest deal but resale value is something I personally consider. A topic that I would love someone in the VC community to cover is what happened to the used vinyl market? My whole life (up until recently), you might see newly used vinyl records in the record store from someone that took a chance and didn't like it for pretty cheap. I also remember coming out of used record stores with buckets of used records under my arm - this never happens anymore. I am some what familiar with Europe's vinyl market, historically speaking and know that this didn't happen to the same degree as North America but thought I would post this topic non the less.
It's an interesting point, I think that there is simply A finite and diminishing supply of anything before 2000. The new editions are perhaps bought more by people consciously vinyl collecting rather than purely buying as a means to listen to the music, if that makes sense? So far less to be sold like what used to be in the shops. Also discogs, eBay! Get far more sellimg direct than to a shop?
The difference between Classic Reissues and 75th anniversary is from here to the moon.! I used to have a bunch of 75 th reissues and decided to sell them to start buying the classic reissues! I haven’t listened to the Horace Silver but Is not difficult to bet that is going to sound way better than the 75 th reissue.
i have also bought Speak no Evil, Classic Series. Nice; but i will sell it again and keep my 80's French reissue; it sounds better to my ears. I don't have the Music Matters to compare. ( i have the Music Matters 33 rpm of Blue Train: outstanding indeed, i will not sell it :-) - Original US Blue Note Reissues , late 60's to early 70's, with RVG stamper can be also excellent ! But you have to find the right one : so called "Hot Stampers" !! ( no two copies of the same record sound the same )
Thanks for your honest appraisal of these important releases. Would you consider doing a video of your system 'in action'? Very rare to see or hear a complete Einstein rig. Keep up the good work, you deserve more followers!
I’ve never owned the vinyl version of Song for My Father so I plan to pick this up. I got a chuckle out of your reference to the Hoffman forum. When I read the Tone Poet or the Classic threads I think a lot of posters are focusing on small details. I don’t know if you’re familiar with this term, but they’re not seeing the forest from the trees.
Great video as always. I picked up a copy of Speak No Evil a few months ago -- it is a Blue Note/Capitol Records "Top Ten Series" reissue from 1997. The hype sticker reads "Mastered from the original analog tapes. 180 gram vinyl. Audiophile Pressing." According to the Discogs page, these were pressed at RTI. I'm very happy with the sound of this pressing but wanted to know if you have any experience with this series and, if so, how they match up to other audiophile reissues like the two you show here. Thanks!
Hello, is there an online shop in Europe where I can get the Blue Note editions? On the blue note shop the shipping is darn expensive to Europe. Thank you.
Great to hear that the Classic series is of similar high quality compared to the usual suspects like AP or MMJ. I assume the 80 Series is comparable to the Classsic soundwise, isn't it? BTW, when I started seriously hearing at my vinyls in the eighties I often came in contact with the German label ECM and I believe they are still of great sound quality. Any experiences? Great channel , keep up the good work. Regards from not so far away (nearby Krefeld). Cheers, Harald.
Are you related to James Hetfield? Maybe a long lost German cousin :D ? Jokes aside, big big fan of your channel its helped me discover some great music (being fairly new to jazz), and quality wise you have helped steer my purchases to the good stuff. Also I have found some interesting Jazz recently I would like to share : "Neptunian Maximalism - Eons"
Great video, as always. MMJ is unfortunately out of my reach, so thankful that UMe is making this records available in Europe. Now, please don't mind me asking about the outer sleeves, as I am sure many people have asked you before, but please endulge me. I know that the outer sleeves are the dual pocket ones from vinylstoragesolutions, but here is a more specific question. I could not find an answer to this in your videos... ...which product exactly are you using? There are so many options on the site! Also, are you using the same outer sleeve for both regular covers (like the Blue Note Classic Series) and the gatefolds (like the Tone Poets)? Or are there different sizes available? Thanks! P.S. Of course, if this has all been answered before - please feel free to point me to a video or link. :)
A great and balanced review, some of these top Audiophile records are becoming silly price - wise and to be honest I am not so sure they are selling for this kind of money, who on Earth would pay $1500 for a Santana Abraxas One Step. There is an SRX version of Speak No Evil for sale on Ebay at £350.00, it's been on sale for months with no taker. Another idiot is asking £400.00 for Kind Of Blue MFSL 45rpm on Discogs, does he not know that it has been re-pressed and Analogue Productions are releasing their UHQR version this year? There are 4 ERC records for sale in the UK from the same seller, 2 @ £500.00 each and 2 @ £750.00 each, all are review samples. Are Audiophiles just easy prey for the profiteers?
Thanks Michael! Question: do you sell the editions again you found out they are less audiophile, or do you keep them anyway? I‘d personally would sell them to keep things simple ... Grüße 🖖🏼
Your honest reviews always make my day. Thank you, Michael! Can’t wait to get my copies this week.
I have seen all your videos. This is the best. I really do something with it.
Compare. Compare. That’s what’s all about.
My sons are also watching your videos now. You talk quiet, that’s good. You make them aware of good music
Got mine a few days ago and man they both sound fantastic! Classic Series is changing the quality/price vinyl game.
Sborter’s Speak no Evil is a masterpiece, there’s no other way to describe it really.
Thank you so much for your reviews. You have a wonderful channel and I always look forward to your videos!
Love your videos so classy
James from San Antonio Tx
Thank you for the comparison video Michael! It really helps to know that these classic releases are similar sonically to the almost out of reach versions from the audiophile labels. So thanks again!
Really good informative video thank you for sharing this with us sir!
Great video Michael and thanks for sharing!
Fantastic video my friend. You always have the best content
Excellent, good to hear as my two copies arrived today. Time to do an AB TEST! LOL
Thank you micheal .

Thanks Aldo for half marketing info
Michael as usual great video. This week I’ll receive 2 half speed Abbey (Stones) and 4 Tone poet records and I will have the opportunity

Great video as always. Thank you Michael!

Just received "Speak No Evil" today in the states..."Song..." on Wednesday. I see you have the Beatles mono box set...good man! I treasure mine.
Hello From Canada Glad I found Your You Tube Channel for record reviews and subscribed
Hello Mike welcome to the Channel :-)
Thank you for the comparisons. Eagerly awaiting my copy of Speak No Evil which should arrive any day now!
I can’t wait to get mine.
Michael great comparison I picked the Horace Silver Song for the Father it sounds great I missed out on the SRX . I’m going to pickup the the Wayne Shorter Speak No Evil they sold out at a lot of shop I went to . Love you break down of the pressings . Lovellandrew
Show the back covers too!
Always interesting to your thoughts on these Classic issues. Since I am fortunate enough to have all of the Music Matters issues, I am steering clear but it would be interesting to see if Kevin ever decided to take a different approach to the mastering with the Classics.
Ideally, you’d want to do a blind test (somebody else should be dropping the needle for you). Human nature is to justify the more expensive investment

Hi, this Bob Marley box is by many considered the best. And contains all albums. www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=1551162&ev=mb

So is it possibly from tape damage?
Thanks for the heads up! I 've only bought the first two Classic Series releases so far and both were fine. That’s on the original tape unfortunately. I heard it too and thought it was dirt on my stylus, but if you Google it you’ll see it’s on the tape.
I had the exact same issue on my copy. Figured it was a glitch from the original recording...
Awesome......!!!
Thank you for the comparison.
I hope you can do the same for the upcoming Classic Series for...
Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else and Joe Henderson - Page One....??
Thanks in advance 🙏
Hi Michael. I'm interested in your take on Jazz at the Pawnshop. I just was made aware of it as an audiophile recording.
Hi Michael very interesting video. I have made the decision not to buy any of these titles as I already have audiophile 45 or 33 editions. When they release something I don’t have I will try one. Your video has helped me to justify this decision to myself so thanks.
Meanwhile I'm still waiting on media mail packages ordered in early December...
I do have 2 Blue Notes on the way. Supposed to ship on Feb 12.

Bottom line for me is this version of Song for my Father will hopefully be better than than my 75th anniversary copy as that was sourced from digital.
it is better

@@leoarreaza9131 a shame that the record company produced mediocre quality for the 75th anniversary edition!
anyone compared the classic series horace silver to the OG?
I'm gonna get a 2nd copy of _Song For My Father_ just in case. Same with _The Sidewinder._
You’re in Germany. How in the hell are you receiving your records before me? Ah, because they’re pressed and printed there. That makes sense.
i have also bought Speak no Evil, Classic Series. Nice; but i will sell it again and keep my 80's French reissue; it sounds better to my ears. I don't have the Music Matters to compare. ( i have the Music Matters 33 rpm of Blue Train: outstanding indeed, i will not sell it :-) -

Hello, is there an online shop in Europe where I can get the Blue Note editions? On the blue note shop the shipping is darn expensive to Europe. Thank you.
go to JPC or HHV
Or even to Amazon!
Great to hear that the Classic series is of similar high quality compared to the usual suspects like AP or MMJ. I assume the 80 Series is comparable to the Classsic soundwise, isn't it? Just out of curiosity what plastic sleeves do you use to cover the jackets? Thanks
The question is.. Would you spot the right one in a blind test?
the differences are bigger than you think i guess
Are you related to James Hetfield? Maybe a long lost German cousin :D ? Jokes aside, big big fan of your channel its helped me discover some great music (being fairly new to jazz), and quality wise you have helped steer my purchases to the good stuff.

Hi Michael surely the SRX Music Matters will beat the Classic Series everytime? What's your thoughts on that pal?
Time will tell i can not predict that for sure
Michael do you buy these off the official blue note store?. I have found that the Feb titles have not been made available on the UK store.
No, i order those in Germany JPC
