I've owned m278 stage 2 and m157 loved both cars. But I'm back to m113k for reliability. Too many issues requiring engine removal in the Bi-turbo cars.
Great engine performance wise. But expect to pay for it. Like others mentioned, a lot of hoses are fitted with plastic connections that dont last due to the major heat this engine produces. After 100k expect to change alot of them. Turbo oil hoses as well as coolant hoses. Also, common issues, cam postion sensors leak, cam shaft solenoid sensors leak. I love this engine, but it does have a lot of maintenance. Expect to pay 5k a year to keep it running for a long time. Mine just hit 190k. Nothing beats the growl this engine puts out the exhaust. I plan on keeping it for a long long time.
um 5k a year??? take out my expensive mods and in 4 years average 1200-1300 a year for my average and i change oil every 2500 miles plugs every 15k coil packs at 35000 brake flush and coolant flush every 2 years etc
@ I have over 95k miles. The tune is fine. I had problems with one of the heads before I got the tune. Some other ware and tear problems. The motor burns oil and the internals need upgrading. That would be very expensive.
Same 15' ML63 P30...Stage 2 Ecu/Tcu..Catless DP On Meth.....I drove the newer GLE yeah the technology is crazy but I wouldn't buy another AMG past 2018
I like my Audi RS5 V8 engine better, and I have the the W204 C63 and C205 C63 S Coupe in the garage. They’re all brilliant in their own way, but the way that RS5 revs, matched with a snappy dual clutch transmission is so intoxicating.
I too have a RS5 V8 B8.5 and a E63S Wagon. The RS5 coupe is fun but I enjoy the wagon waaaay more than the Audi. I honestly feel that the MCT in my wagon shifts as quick as the DCT, plus my wagon will absolutely destroy my RS5 all day, every day! 🙂
@@JrRmason Yeah I find the C63 S shifts just as fast too. My RS5 is stage 2 tuned with catless headers and it will only have a slight advantage from a dig over the rear wheel Mercs. I have a Dragy 0-60 of 3.74, but I’ve had a more aggressive TCU tune since. I think both the W204 and W205 C63 will easily pull away from the Audi in a rolling pull. I just enjoy playing with the long gears and revs in the RS5.
I have GL63 with 265k km, as a daily car (400km city drive/week) and ita run like new! How? Easy, oil change every 3-4k km, only 100oktan petrol and waiting until the oil hit 70-80 degree and then pressing the accelerator pedal bit more.
I have a CLS Shooting Brake AMG 63S and there is no issues whatsoever with my car... The earlier cars with the M157 had scoring issues, but my later 2017 car doesn't /won't suffer with these issues....

What car doesn't cause any issues after 100k miles?
The whole V8 Twin Turbo thing is just nuts!
In a bad or good way?
@3:53 LFG!
Not sure about the best ever but my CLS 63 has one and I am in love with it. Such a fun car/motor.
Love mine, 2012 S63 AMG with performance package its a rocketship i drive nationwide over 100,000 miles and going to put another 200,000 on it
The m157 was and still is based on the m278 twin turbo v8 engine and was reintroduced in 2012-2013-2014 that’s literally 4 times in a row
It has it's problems but It's truly a powerhouse of an engine. My ML63 putting out 700 hp.

Its one of the best sounding V8s ever, but the M113 is the best one. Best V8 ever made.
most reliable tt v8 are both amg..m177 and the 5.5l v8 tt..by far

Cylinder score is very bad in these engines. Eventually all of them start knocking and you then know what is coming... new engine or complete overhaul
not in the biturbo one but the na 5.5l

no. no debate. M113K
brilliant engine !!
Nope. The new V8 4L is much better and has less issues.

no!!!!!
This engine has too many plastic parts that becomes brittle and breaks overtime. pains me to think that amg could do this to a flagship v8 engine.

The turbos are not plastic

notorious for oil leaks ?
they just keep adding more plastics and at the price premium, but then again that goes for most cars.
