Good video on a difficult subject. Question: did you use OEM parts or an after market timing chain kit? If the latter what brand did you use and why? Thanks!
Thanks. I use aftermarket from an actual parts supplier. Not like ebay or Amazon. A lot of the times some or even all of the pieces will be the same as the OEM uses.
@@HighGearAutomotive Not very genuine of you to insinuate Ebay or Amazon suppliers are junk. Ebay and Amazon are just outlets for suppliers to sell their items through. Many private sales and company sales go through eBay and these people sell oem and aftermarket parts. Same with Amazon. Amazon does not make any parts they just allow vendors to a place to advertise and sell these parts. I have bought TONS OF OEM parts through OEM dealers selling though eBay. On the contrary, O'reilly's sells almost exclusively aftermarket parts. The few oem parts they sell are special order and not in stock. And yes there are crappy made aftermarket parts sold on Amazon and eBay form suppliers who sell these crappy aftermarket parts but you need to know who you're buying from. Ebay and Amazon both have vendor ratings and part reviews from sellers that help to make a smart choice.
My Daughters 2014 elantra cylinder head looked worst then the one on the video and I used the BG restoration cleaner to get the nasty Gunk out and it worked to the point where it looked almost new. Now I have to change those fasers and tensioner and timing chain. I was wondering where to get the fasers and timing chain kit?
I’m replacing mine because of a leaking timing cover and the engine has 210k miles, are there clear markings on the replacement parts or do I need to be careful with the orientation when I take the old one out? Also any recommendations on what I should use to scrape the RTV off the aluminum block without gouging it? Any advice is much appreciated.
The new parts are clearly marked. I'd still start by setting it up #1 on tdc before taking it apart. I just use a regular scraper & chlorinated brake clean helps deteriorate the oem silicone & wipe off.
Hi, nice video. I have a Kia Forte 2019, I did everything but did not turn on. but do not erase codes. Could it be because you haven't erased the codes?

How much did the entire job cost including labor and parts?
I don't recall the exact bill or cost but think it was a total of around $1,100.
