Btw, this is the *best* Greek I ever heard being spoken in a foreign media production.
Beats about every version of fake/half-assed Greek heard in any Hollywood movie. It sounds authentically Greek, as in spoken by an actual Greek speaker.
All of Hollywood couldn't find a proper adviser on the language and the makers of the video game did?
    It's surreal :P

the biggest question on my mind from this video is: where the hell did the deathless come from, during the atlas scenario?? you see shadows of them, sneaking around like ninjas and killing trinity soldiers, when in reality they're nothing like that, they're more like a brute force army that doesn't hide but charges in. yet throughout the entire time you're trying to bring down the statue, the place is empty like nobody is there. all of a sudden, theres like 50 of them? where did they come from? that large gate wall face they're on, is that a passage connecting to kitezh?? because i thought the deathless were hidden from the world, unless this was a separate legion of deathless just stuck down there, living in their greek fire factory, completely unconnected to the deathless in kitezh?? idk it just seemed really odd to me to run into them there. they were so close to the surface there, that if they wanted to, they could just go up and take out the remnants

maybe they indeed use unseen secret passages which only goes through the underground places (Trinity opened the Archives) which never goes to the surface. wether they'rein the archives (they would use them to ambush the Trinity guys), and some other connected to the Kitez lost city. we can assume also that their left massacres and their sudden appearance in the Atlas place is more like for a suspenseful effect in the game story.

@@giannilyanicks1718 I thought the reason the deathless never came out into the world was because they were trapped. But it may be that they're not even interested. The archives probably had tunnels connected to kitezh. I think the game explanation for why you can't go to kitezh from the archives is because there were too many deathless and everything was getting destroyed while lara escaped. Even though you can still return there later, the story acts like you're not supposed to go back

There was likely only a few soldiers in the beginning murdering Trinity. They also can climb as well as Lara in their full armor. They likely gathered and broke in with full force knowing there were many mercenaries but it was too late, it was only Lara that stole the Atlas. It was probably a way that leads to the main cathedral when they wiped the floor with the Trinity mercs and went to inspect the explosions in the Greek fire production facility.

Well, this is certainly MUCH better than the "pig Greek" we hear from the captured prisoner and the mourners at the graves. In those instances, they absolutely butchered it. Why they could find voice actors for the Deathless Ones who spoke Greek, but not for the other NPCs, I have no idea.
This game also seems to have very poor understanding of Greek and Byzantine culture, as well as the Eastern Orthodox Church. We see a shrine to the Apostles in the Baba Yaga DLC, yet the saints in the twelve icons (some of which repeat) are clearly not the Apostles. And we see well known icons, such as the Epitaphios and the Transfiguration, cut up and pasted together to make original icons of the Prophet. Things like this hurt the immersion for someone who is well-versed in these things.

They are dresses as fairly elite Clibanari or Skoutatoi.. Given the Prophet flight from the Empire in the X century nordic style in the Empire would have been widespread. (as Nordic mercenaries were more and more common)
But you can still see some more Romaioi influence.
Generally Romaioi Helmets were more open in design..only design issue i have is their shields.. it's not Roman of any period. Romaioi shield were either round or ovals. That is a more latin design. But still immortal guardian and such. =D

@@andrews.5212 The Eastern Romans used Kite shields during the 900s-1400s. From the 1200s knightly shields were in use. They are dressed with chestplates from Medieval knights, helmets from Ancient Greece (enclosed Corinthian looking helmet) and Roman (Galea looking helmet but with nose guard). They also have vambraces and greaves (which are Greco-Roman). They also wear mail armor and enclosed mail coifs. They do have some sort of pteruges (Greco-Roman protective waistband).
They were a former Roman tagma called the Athanatoi, which existed in history. They were nowhere close to Skutatoi, they outclass them in equipment. Klibanophoroi and Kataphraktoi are close, but still wear lamellar instead of plate armor (unless its 15th century, but they were 10th century).

Most of the architecture is deeply Byzantine in style but also has old a lot of roman classical style, especially the statues. They really ran side to side as languages, as they are derived from the indoeuropeans, and they influenced themselves over the years with the hellenic influence in the roman empire, christianity and whatnot. Anyway the effect in game is really good and makes for a good atmosphere

Just for the info, the Greeks do not believe the Indoeuropean theory.Arthur Evans found 2 types of older writtings here (Grammiki A and B, in Crete).
In contrary with the Global scientist community we have strong archaeo-"logical" evidence of how the Hellenic language evolved in our land thousands of years before Christ.I agree about the game and the atmosphere, 2 and a half days i was stuck on my chair:P

Yes and no. The City of Kitezh (the hidden city which Lara and trinity are trying to find) was built by the immortal prophet and his followers after they fled the Byzantine Empire (which was technically the Eastern Roman Empire, which didn’t fall until the 15th century, while the western Roman Empire fell in 400AD). Formerly yes. They were known as the Athanatoi (a real-life order of the East Roman Empire), but they joined the Prophet to Syria and Siberia. They guarded the city until the Mongols came and then sunk it beneath the ice. If they came out of Kitezh and said 'we are the last of the Romans' then they are the last of the Romans.
