Pretty incredible how he basically changed his whole repertoire in the leadup to 2024....then pitched incredibly well in the majors. You often hear about pitchers adding a pitch or changing one in an offseason. I don't recall hearing a pitcher talking about changing 3-4 pitches all in one offseason! Excited to watching Schwelly perform in 2025.
yup it sounds like he was throwing a lot of pitches that didnt fit his genetical biomechanic biases and just leaned into them over the offseason. Really shows how important good personalised pitching development is to realise a pitchers potential
What an interesting interview. I’ve always liked the theory of baseball more than the sport itself, but this year I’ll pay some more attention and watch out for this guy.
He quickly understood the value of setting up hitters. Throwing the ball inside, outside, up and down. Mixing in fastballs with off speed stuff. Just a joy to watch from the beginning.
for christmas i got a signed baseball and signed draft card from schwellenbach. he has such a high ceiling because he can pound the zone and with good velocity. when he get comfortable with the big strikeout pitch out of the zone, he'll be even more of a dog.
That interview was very instructive! He provided great info re each grip. You showed video of the flight of each pitch as he was describing his method. Rob, why didn’t you lead off with his rendition of the song we all sing when he throws?
I agree! Look how many pitchers tunnel their fastball with a wicked splitter. I am hoping Spencer Strider is learning the splitter to be his third pitch.

I think he even added a pitch during the season last year.
I love swelly! He was definitely the silver lining of the 2024 season
This is the pitcher I’m most excited about for 2025. Go Braves

Let's go to schwellenbach Texas, with Willy and Waylon and the boys!!!
Going to have to work on replacements for “Morton, Fried” in the song… 😂 Love when PN covers Schwelly!
Spencer will have a great career
Next early extension candidate in Atlanta. I'd say by August if 2025 goes like 2024 did.
Excellent interview. 👊😎
Thanks!

Ha--I do have him singing it with me!
@@PitchingNinjaVideosNo way! Hahahahaha! Love this kid. I’m happy whenever you feature him, Rob.
Every pitcher should learn splitter.
Definitely.

As a fan I love this guy.
As a Phillies fan I hate this guy!

I turned this video on at work and now my coworkers are laughing too. It's a great way to spend a lunch break😘
