    This one hit home. %80 of my childhood memories are related to domestic violence incidents at home. That is my main reason for joining the Police, I hope I pass my first exams. 🤞🤞🤞 Thanks for the video it's great inspiration to keep pushing through the process.

    I think it is so important to talk about this sort of stuff. The more it happens, the less we talk about it, and the less we talk about it, the more it happens. Hope your knee gets better soon! 😊

    Thank you for address such a hard topic. With people now stuck in their homes with Civid-19, cases have apparently increased. When you can't leave to get space and find an outlet, it makes things worse. Thank you for being there for people.

    Constable Hurn, I trust you'll have a speedy and full recovery from your injury. Unfortunately work related injuries in policing are all too common.
    You've focused on what is basically the "bread and butter" of police work (unfortunately). Even here in Australia, Domestic Violence is common and helping people to break that DV cycle is crucial. this responsibility doesn't just rest with police or any one organization. From family members to professional support groups, never be afraid to reach out for help if you or somebody you know (or suspect) is a DV victim.
    Stay safe everybody.
    Hmm, maybe a QPS shoulder patch will pop up in an upcoming video from Constable Hurn!!

      Not here. New Zealand has one national service so the cops you see at the Airport are the same as the ones you would find anywhere else. We rotate around quite a bit too so even I could work the Airport gig one day. - Constable Hurn.

    I'm looking towards a career with NZ police my question is how do you prepare and deal with gruesome road accidents ?

    • @doncoleman4938
      @doncoleman4938 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      josh avery I've been with police and ambulance in Australia for 30 years combined.
      At the start of your career, such incidents can be confronting. I'm not sure about NZP (I'm assuming training is consistent across the Tasman), but watching an autopsy (behind glass and shielded from any smells) as well as seeing confronting videos and photos is included during training. The only way one can prepare for such incidents is exposure. NZP will no doubt have a fantastic support network to help officers cope with confronting incidents. Just when you think you've seen it all and nothing phases you, there is always something that does. Best way to deal with confronting situations is to talk with your colleagues. If you get into the police, you're going to see scenes a lot more confronting than "gruesome road accidents".
      Good luck with your career quest.

    • @newzealandpolice
      @newzealandpolice  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, we all see a few things in the job, there is training, good support from the team both in a casual way and more formal support. Experience helps, but so does good sleep and healthy habits around managing stress, all stuff they talk about at College. - Constable Hurn.

    Criminalise alcohol and the most of the violence will go away. Its just a bandaid on a problem.

    • @yenabo8358
      @yenabo8358 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not enough cells to hold a high percentage of people that will break this law if it was put in place.
      However, reoccurring offenders of family violence due to drugs or alcohol should be treated for drug/alcohol addiction.
      Trying to prevent it before it happens again is the easiest way to minimize these stats and keep those who rely on alcohol to deal with their mental/health issues in a less violent state.
