I am also an English teacher (currently a stay-at-home mum) and I would like to thank you for voicing feelings and opinions I didn't realise I had. Now that I am a bit older, I no longer feel like smiling all the time and creating 'fun' lessons, I want to help those who want to be helped. I have no desire to be a clown. 🙂

For me as an Eastern European your style is pretty normal. When I grew up nobody was smiling much in normal conversation (they laughed at jokes etc. but that's another thing), teachers were just like you, strict. Nowadays many younger people acquired the fake cheerfulness from Western, especially American culture though.

You can't win. Whatever you do, you will always have someone who will bring it up as a covert criticism of your character, if not a blatant one. For example, I smile a lot and laugh a lot, not every single time, I can be serious too but most of the time I am lighthearted face to face and I get some people telling me that I "get on their nerves" because of that and on those occasions when I might be serious, you can nigh on guarantee you will get one other person who will say to me "oh cheer up John for god's sake, you're depressing me".....blah blah blah. As the late Ricky Nelson used to say in his 'Garden Party' song, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself.

You are an EXCELLENT TEACHER. You don’t need to smile, keep going as you are. Your style comes across as very professional. You remind me of a woman I know who grew up in Blackpool and now lives amongst the Tatler readers and “are you going beagling this weekend” fraternity. She presents a very neutral front like yourself with the very low energy quite closed mouth delivery, I’ve always said it is because she worries about her natural accent slipping out like Eliza Dooolittle at Ascot. It worked for her and seems very happy with life but inside there is a lovely person who does have a sense of humour and itnis always a joy to make her laugh. Oddly you look very like the younger her… perhaps a distant relo’. My wife is an actress so we both love the nuances of accents and so enjoy your channel.

I'm glad to have found you again, to see the changes you've undertaken, to see that you are still at your craft. Keep on striving: you are needed.

You are pretty unique and lovely in your own special way, plus i have always loved your sense of humour.. you need not smile all the time, don’t let people pick it up as a flaw. Serious women are attractive .. you are our strict English teacher

Thanks for sharing your thoughts n feelings openly about your sadness, anger and lack of smiling. I hear you and emphasize with you. In addition to lack of education there is also a lack of justice, fairness n peace in the world. More power to you and may the Force be with you for what you do. I love your British accent.

I’ve never thought about why you don’t smell. That didn’t even cross my mind. I was focusing on understanding the knowledge. I thought that’s what teachers are for.

I have a similar teaching style to you.
Some people seem to assume that just because the students are not bouncing off the walls and having “fun”, that they are not learning … my students learn a lot in my lessons and regularly pass their proficiency exams! You can see the growth, but I’m not a dancing clown in the lessons! You don’t have to be!

So if people think she looks and sound boring they are idiots? I'd rather say that calling other people "idiots" shows you're an idiot. Right?
