@@ThePeacefulBear Not yet but they're taking requests on their website, so let them know where you'd like to see them launch next!!
What about payment right after the sketch is done? You send over the sketch, you go "this is what the piece is gonna look like", if the customer likes it, they pay for it, you ink it / color it / whatever and send it over. If they ghost you, all you made is a sketch that costed you... not much of your time!
You know I heard from one of my teachers that it’s best to send a low resolution image or place a watermark over your piece so a client can’t steal your work. It may not be foolproof, but the idea is to make sure that your art isn’t easy to take.
Someone I know does this and I also copied them for my ToS. They do the sketch first and only continue the rest of the commission after being paid in full. If the client ghosts them then the commission is considered cancelled/forfeit and the artist gets to reuse or edit that unused sketch for future art or other commissions.
This is what I have done, however I'm mostly a hobbyist who does cheap 20-30 dollar commissions. For much larger projects, I don't think this would work since you would be spending a lot more time making a presentable sketch.
people can take that sketch and plug it into ai xd
@@bagelisdead oooh thats pretty smart! being able to still use the sketch for other things is nice.
I have been wondering about how people do commissions, but not sure what to do. This is helpful!
In regards to AI, N F T, or commercialization, if the person commissioning you fails to adhere to your Terms of Service, then what's the best course of action? Such as, they paid for a personal commission but either A. Claimed they made it without credit and used it as basis for GenAI learning or B. Use a personal as a keychain/print for their business
Personally, ive had to put the "no altering your commission with AI" in my TOS. At that point, even if they do break my TOS, i would ultimately just cut any further commissions with them. But otherwise yeah, im afraid theres not much that can be done if a client goes against those parts of your TOS. Atleast, not as far as i know.
Funny, all I have in my TOS is:
-One drawing per person
-Full payments in advance
Which might explain why I always get commissions, even if almost all of them are sus xD
Very good to know
This girl is so beautiful and charismatic.
Nice too know thx Jessie
Hey! I have a question.. Why I need to ask the costumer his email for a "invoice" ? Sorry, I actually don't know the meaning of invoice.
This will help you understand what an invoice is: www.investopedia.com/terms/i/invoice.asp
Basically, it's a receipt provided ahead of payment so the person who is paying you knows what they're paying for.
@@kevinkoyle thank you!
No problem@@Lunar_Galatic!
I wonder if you can charge the person to remove the watermark as part of complexity fees, because from then on its up to the customer if they want to have it or not, which is useful to simultaneously earn and protect your work.
Would all this apply to 3d art as well?
I wish I will have the chance to do commissions for people😥 so far nothing
what does alteration to a piece constitute? I see that on commission sheets and i dont really understand the meaning/purpose
alterations is like a change to the artwork eg: if the customer asks for the hand to be changed from say, waving to a peace sign, that counts as one alteration.
It depends on how you're reading it. Giving other people permission to alter or if they're asking you to make alterations.
An alteration is a change to the piece, so whether you're giving people the rights to change your artwork (colouring, or even bigger changes) or if they're asking you to change something before the commission is finished.
What i mean is when you would say the buyer can’t make alterations, why is that? Also why would someone alter a finished commission?
Some people aren't comfortable with their work being altered because it's attached to their reputation. If someone else were to alter your work, there's no guarantee it won't reflect poorly on you, among other reasons.@@anony_apis Some people change character traits or aesthetics over time, etc. There are a lot of reasons someone might attempt to alter a finished commission. Some artists will build in a minor changes clause that allows the commissioner to contact them for slight edits, like a simple recolour, etc.
Oh i see, thats makes sense! thanks a lot
