I try to be realistic most of the time. Monster Hunter is not the easiest game to get into and it is understandable that, even with the help it offers, it might be a frustrating first few hours of play... Despite this, every attempt I've made at reasoning why he would be frustrated is thwarted by his incredible capacity to forget valuable info 5 seconds after he acknowledges it.
Just keep in mind that if not for the stream chat we probably would've had "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (3DS) - pt97 - Finally beat the Seltas after 23 tries! EPIC RAGE MUST WATCH"

assholemon Yeah. Normally the game makes fun of the whole "sidekick thinks he's the master" bit, but for DarksydePhil here it's actually TRUE. Meowmix ends up doing far more than Phil does.
There's no way he would have made it to Seltas without the handholding. He was having trouble with the interface itself.

+The Camera Box Most people say that because it's a legitimate complaint, the game never makes it clear what things you can block and what you can't.
I like how Phil almost never changes his camera angle in any game he plays and is often seen walking into walls he can't see or falling off things.
I also like how he starts out making his character look like himself and then proceeds to call him "dumass".
Of course Phil doesn't notice anything funny about this.

I pray he never does Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. I’m glad he ignored World ( Even though he gave it negative slack and all ), but I’ve put 1,189 into Gen and don’t want to see it ruined by the hands of someone who doesn’t invest time into the game.

I really want fanfic now of an aggressive, bullheaded hunter with a tired, exhausted Palico who does all the work for his hunter, who's completely ignorant to how helpful his Palico is and just shits on him at every opportunity because he's so focused on his own personal successes and trials.

It physically hurts to watch the chat tell him everything when I figured out most of this stuff on my own within seconds of being presented with the information.
Being a former switch axe user seeing his absolute failure at around 38:30 makes me so pissed.
His palico put out more damage then he did... XD
Let's think about this, dsp played Mh4 and Rise, so why did he skip world you ask?
Probably because it's the only game in the series where the palico can't deal the finishing blow to a monster.

For those that have never played a Monster Hunter game and feel that this video sort of trivializes a lot of the things that happened during the stream, I thought I'd explain a few things:
-Currently with the newer ones we have 14 different weapon types. Each weapon has a set move list, terrain moves, and moves that require you to be in certain modes or stances. Weapons can take a bit to learn, so I would totally make an argument for DSP that anytime before the first hour is totally expected since he never really had much time to practice the Switch Axe, learn the pros and cons of Sword Mode and Axe Mode, or learn some of the combos. A little less leeway is given after that since he claimed he practiced or did research on the weapon and seemed to have somewhat of a handle on it.
-Monster Hunter is a bit of a grind fest, but 4U and Generations (I'm not counting World as I myself have never played it) are a little more forgiving about that in the beginning. You can definitely get by with a few Whetstones, Mega Potions, and Paintballs but later on you'll need to make more things and buy more tools. You are a hunter and a hunter is nothing without the tools he needs. Just to explain why he had to do gathering missions.
-Monsters aren't like the Souls type games in that you aren't looking to kill a boss that wants to solely kill you. The game designers even go far enough to say that the Monsters are not intended to be perceived as villains throughout the series. They need to eat, sleep, and breathe, so they will run off and do what they need to do in order to stay alive. Again, as a hunter you have the tools to help you when they do something like this.
-The quests will give you free stuff. If you get stuck or run out of stuff, just wait a few mins to regroup and come up with a new strategy, and see if the Guild will give you extra stuff like First Aids, Rations... everyone likes free stuff.
-You know how the pros in the Souls games can tell you what the boss is gonna do because he twitched his head? Monsters are kinda like that too. They have signs that will tell you if you are paying attention what attack the monster intends to use, so you can block/roll/dive out of the way.
-Lastly, the games have been out for a while. If you get the games, go on subreddit, or the Discord server, or look up the monster since the stats for the newer ones (again, except for World) have been released. Some of them even give you tips and can explain what happens when you break a certain part.
Altogether, from someone who's watching him play it for the first time and remembering back at my first time watching it, he didn't do nearly as bad as I expected.
Calling it before I start the video

Not figure out the game runs on item dependency
never use armor skills
cart to the jaggi at least once
get poisoned by the gypceros three times in the same hunt
get eaten by a pickle
never make a full set, and instead just make random armor pieces as he tries to blast through the quest line as fast as possible (and fail to do so)
triple cart to gore at least once
try out great sword and complain about movement speed
try bowguns and not know how ammo works
complain about lack of healthbars
Not eat about 70% of the time when he should be
try and use an insect glaive like a french piece of shit (pogo bouncing)
Never learn to redshield on his chargeblade
fail to mount. twice.
attempt an egg quest. loses his shit because of slow movement speed
says woooooOOO000OOOOooooow AT LEAST 52 Times
fails carving/ doesnt carve
get konchu'd repeatedly
gets one shot by rathalos fireball bullshit
dies to a rath's poison tail/claws
never upgrade his cat. ever.

I feel like Capcom gave him a special version of the game where his Palico is godly. Seriously, I struggled a bit with Seltas and Kecha Wacha, and I played a lot of the 3rd game.
I guess it's finally time. I never wanted to see Phil butcher one of my favorite games. But if I saw him play Metal Gear Rising, I can sit through this. I'm going in!

I remember giving my brother a copy of 3U, 4U and FU back when he was 12 because he'd gotten interested in the Series after watching me play.
Needless to say, my brother had beaten the games (well, the story portion of them) within a few weeks between school etc.
I don't think DSP could possibly do that.
I feel like the Auto-Guard talisman is a thing he'd need more in the fighting games he... 'plays.'
Judging by the way his home menu looks, default icon size, default white background, he has Pokedex 3D and Swapnote. I'm guessing Phil doesn't use his 3DS often.
I don't think I realised, but probably the reason why so many people have bad sets in this game is because of the Ace Cadet. It doesn't look like it has a full set, so...

there are so many times when Phil just doesn't remember something and it's painful. He thought the Aptonoth were Konchu, when Aptonoth are the first things you hunt in this game. 26 minutes in, and I cannot wait for him to try understanding skills.

Alex Ruiz He was just looking at the "attack stat" of the weapon. The first switch axe has the highest "attack stat" over all the weapons.
The first weapons all have the same base power though.

And you're right the hbg does have one of the highest dps. Same base power as the others, but definitely highest dps,

People who can't buy the game themselves, so they watch him, so they can control a man (child) controlling a game.

I honestly cannot describe my hatred for DSP with human words.
His playthrough's are beyond tedious...it hurts my brain.
A true testament to dsp's bad. A fucking palico did the heavy lifting and landed the killing blow on the kecha wacha, a basic, simple monster that should only take about 10 minutes at the most.
The fucking stream hand holding is unreal. WHERE'S THE FUN IN THAT?
Hah, it would've been amazing if he would've started off in MHFU, I still remember my first time through it, even though my first MH was the first on the PS2, that MHFU specifically felt like a freight train right off the bat, no help, no tutorials, just raw and unforgiving difficulty, you know a game wants you dead when you've only played enough to have only the starter armor set and yet behold, a semi-immortal Tigrex with the most ruthless hitbox it's ever had comes charging at you at the speed and force of a true rape train. I would've adored to watch him squeal and squirm at that quest's moment, even more to see him struggle against something like the "Can't stop, won't stop Bulldrome."
While watching him try to take down the great Jaggi, I rewound and played the same quest with my HBG and managed to do it in under 90 seconds. He was still trying and struggling to kill it, even with jumpcuts.
That ending was glorious... also props for the Batman moment... that made me lawl pretty hard.

As for the video itself as a veteran of the MH series with a combined total of 1000+ hours of gameplay over the years that hurt my brain. I mean I've seen bad but...just wow.

2. 1000+ hours? Damn, dude. That's pretty good. I think I have about 600+ hours from MH3U and MH4U combined. I really want to go back to MH3U and finish the G- Rank quests. Heck, this series is just amazing.
When I first downloaded it I thought I'd only like it for a month and it would just fall to the wayside, but it's one of my favourite series ever!
Enough of my gushing though. It just really bugs me that someone like him can play this great game, blame it for his fuck ups, and have a stream chat hold his hand through the whole thing!

Monster Hunter has a steep learning curve.

Question: Been considering getting Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for a while; how good is it and would it work well on regular 3DS?
It works fine on a regular 3DS, but if you're using a N3DS the c-stick makes ranged weapons a little less of an asspain and the framerate is a little better.

Rewatching this. And after watching the Jak and Daxter playthrough. People in that were saying "OMG, you're just mad cause Phil's not playing the way you do!" in reference to him not using the spin attack to extend his jumps. But none of his fans complain about the STREAM CHAT flat out telling him how to play, which 100% negates any argument about the previous statement
So is the purpose of watching these videos to see how long you can go without rage quitting from the stupidity???
