  • They say these snakes (called a Krait) come in all different sizes and multiple varieties (including Sea Kraits) - Many of 'em are extremely poisonous. In this story, William Conrad plays a guy who's a loud & obnoxious bigot, Jack Webb is his roommate. Jack arrives home one night to find Conrad lying in bed and SWEATING BULLETS! Conrad saw a tiny little Krait slide in under his covers!!! Thus the story begins! This might be one of those stories I like to call a "Nightmare Enducer" Personally, I have no issues with toxic snakes . . . In fact as long as they stay over in India I don't care what they do or where they go! Audio for this episode has been digitally remastered.

✓✓√✓√√✓✓√√✓ Personal & True STUFF-N-SUCH: This episode reminded me of something which happened thirty years ago that I'll never forget. I grew up out in the country, surrounded by woods with a few farms and orchards around. I think it was about three o'clock in the morning when I got up to use the bathroom. Groggy, barefoot (wearing less than underwear) I stepped into the hallway and caught a glimpse of A SNAKE!! It was quite alive too! Yes, a snake IN the house, so I had to do SOMETHING and QUICKLY (the LAST thing I wanted was to have it escape then disappear) I had little or no choice but to grab it . . . I had no gloves, no shoes, no tools and no pants (this is something you just don't prepare for!) I "bravely" grabbed it behind it's head, then ran outside with it. I tossed it far into the woods. Who knows how it got inside or for how long. I never really tried to find out what kind it was, but I do recall that it was dark red with silver patches. I have similar stories, but I'm not sure if this is the proper forum. Please comment if you read this, and if you want more (or less stories) . . . Technically, this is my channel, but I like to think of it as YOURS, or OURS.

Oh I absolutely love Jack Webb and William Conrad in this one, particularly Mr. Webb's narration! I almost wanted him to say in this episode, "This is the city.....Bombay, India......12.5 million people.......I work here, I'm a construction engineer. It was sometime in June.....it was hot and humid in Bombay.....we were staying in a hotel nearby our site, my partner was Harry Pope, my name is Arthur Woods". Heh, how's that for a Dragnet-style monologue?

@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered I just saw the Alfred Hitchcock episode the other day to compare notes, and I like this version better because I think the bigotry in this one helps raise the stakes more than just being an alcoholic.

One dark monsoon night in 1966 Vietnam while serving in the infantry on a ambush patrol a death adder crawled into our midst causing a panic. We called in flares so we could shoot the thing blowing our cover and the ambush. Thanks to the deadly snake we were called back to base and had no ambush patrol that night! That snake saved lives that night, of either/or Vietnamese troops or us by blowing our cover.

That's a great story - my wife lost a brother in Vietnam, and my dad was a WWII vet - so I understand that luck or circumstances are often better than skill or training - Thanks for your service!

    :'( Poison indeed. :'(
It's always a bit interesting to see how they tried to handle racism in these.

I can see that . . . But I can find humor in anything! Thanks for your comments! - Charlie

I don't know why people are afraid of snakes. I am happy to find them on my property as that is a good sign that the environment is healthy. However, the feel of them moving freaks me out. My mom is terrified of snakes for some reason. She's 5' 4" and my dad was 6' 4", lifted weights and was built like a Mack truck. If heckled enough, he would occasionally show people how strong he was. As a kid, I remember him lifting weights with apparent ease but when the younger hecklers tried, two of them could not lift as much as my dad!!!
My mom's favorite story is how one night she had a horrible nightmare of wrestling a huge snake. She remembers flipping that snake over her body and onto the floor ... well, my parents woke up to find my dad on the bedroom floor! Embarrassing for my dad of solid muscle, that his little wife flipped him as easily as a fluffy pancake! My dad says he remembers her having a death grip on his upper arm and the next moment he was on the floor!

Cyn K You need to listen to the Herbert Marshall episode "The Perfect Murder" in his playlist on my channel. I'm not so much afraid of snakes as the way I most often discovered them where I grew up. Usually they would go unseen until you're just about to step on them, then suddenly spring to life and slither away. I was also taught the value of snakes (eating bugs and rodents) so I never intentionally killed them. More than once, however (and how I hated this) I'd accidentally run over one with the lawnmower. THAT was gross. When I was very little, we had "Michigan Rattlers" around . . . But they kind of vanished in my part of the state. Finally, your font is in this show's description. Thanx as always - Charlie

@ Cyn K, I hear you. I personally LOVE snakes, I've handled MANY kinds and IMO they definitely have an undeserved reputation.

If they wrote this today, most people would laugh and say, how about putting the snake in a secure cage?! Or even a pillow case, inside of a box?! No danger at all!
