      Translation:
"No matter how much this ball moves, I don't feel any resistance (I don't feel like it has fallen)
In other words, if it becomes the shape of this ball and the feeling of the ball, I thought that human beings can complete the axis as smoothly as a ball.
Therefore, the figure of this sphere becomes the human way and becomes the true figure of the technique.
These principles have become scientific research for the art.
Also, in human relations, I thought that it became a "road" and that there was a true figure of this sphere.
In other words, the more harmonious the society is, the more the society develops, and I wondered if there is a true and true path in a place where this is not unreasonable.
So, as a result of studying spheres, I thought about the guiding principle. What is the guiding principle?
That is, it can be pushed and turned, and pulled diagonally.
As a result of constantly studying the appearance of this sphere, this was the guiding principle of my judo."

That explains a lot the Nage Waza and why works perfectly with bigger opponents

    The order in practicing is:
    1) Technique
    6) Speed
    7) Strength/Power

Thank you Chadi. It has never ceased to amaze me, how, in the martial arts world, decades of study, hardship, and frustration can suddenly come to an end. Sometimes it only takes a few words of counsil from a peer to make that breakthrough in our understanding. Other times it might be a short series of photos to give us that epiphany, progress can be Zen like when we hear but a single kernel of martial truth. Judo/Shuai Jiao is the last area of my study, so it still mystifies me. Sorry I am unfamiliar with the corresponding Japanese terms, but in Chinese we can say that "fajin", explosive force, when executed with correct "sung" relaxed softness, and with correct technique, bring about that effortless feeling, and appearance, which epitomizes high level skill. And we just got mats! Looks like my Chrismas wish list will now include "the Secrets of Judo!"
All I can remember from my first teacher is Kime Kata Waza. I hope thats enough.
    Again, thanks for sharing!

I have carefully studied several judo techniques using the ideas in this book for many years with very good results. But, it took time and experiments before I found examples and ways to apply it during judo practice. For example, in kouchi gari ( & osoto & kosoto ) the standard way of practicing the techniques won't work against a resisting defender unless you use the idea of two forces hitting the opponent (a couple) where your chest and leg work in two opposite directions to overpower the defender. Many other judo techniques will also fail unless you understand how to apply the principles in this book. It's got the real secrets but you need to slowly apply the principles to see how it works at first. There is more practical wisdom in this book than in all the videos and books I have seen.

Really interesting video! Looking forward to read that book! I like to add that Kinetic Energy = 1/2 * mass * (velocity)^2 , velocity is squared here, hence more energy from greater velocity. Force is also equal to the rate of change of momentum, the shorter the time frame received from greater velocity produces more force!

    • @backwardwalker
      @backwardwalker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You've got a useful formula there for throwing if you know how to apply it in different ways. In the book, the power of impulsive force or what we might call "body weight in motion, hitting the defender" is shown to be one of the key reasons that a smaller man can trip a larger man backwards. In other words, for backward throws, you have to use your chest and/or belly to bump the defender as you hook a leg. I've never seen this and several other basic principles explained in any book or video. It truly is "Invisible Judo."

What made me fall for Judo, is when teaching a student told them to stop and asked them where do feel the opponents weight and where do you feel yours. Close your eyes and feel the balance. Then told them to complete the throw and when they opened their eyes you could see Judo there. Someone doesn’t know a thing until it’s expressed in all they do, when they see Judo in all things watch a master begin to take shape.

When I watch Mifune, I don’t see someone moving with great or high velocity. But rather someone moving very slightly ahead of his uke. He is anticipating uke’s movement, and beating him to the position, thus upsetting his balance and ability to do the planned technique. This is an essential idea in Judo, force merges with force. If he were to collide with uke with a higher velocity, while his momentum would be transferred to uke, he would be stopped or greatly slowed and would be separated from uke, loosing the ability to control the throw. Easier to think of using pool or billiards ball. My teacher was always accused of being very fast, which he stated was incorrect. He would match uke’s speed, then accelerate very quickly to complete the technique.

    • @Chadi
      @Chadi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thank you Jay, what Mifune said is somewhat hard to translate, even my tutor had troubles understanding, old and thick accent (keep in mind he was born in 1883) here's a translation:
"Looking at the whole story of such a sphere, I don't feel any resistance.
In other words, if it becomes the shape of this ball and the feeling of the ball, I thought that human beings can also complete something that is as smooth as a ball (poke?).
Therefore, the figure of this ball becomes the way of human beings and the true figure of the technique, and such a principle becomes a scientific study for the technique.
Also, in human relations, I thought that there was a true figure of this sphere as a way.
In other words, the more harmonious it was, the more praise it had.
I also wondered if there was a real and true path here.
So, as a result of studying spheres, I thought about the driving principle. What is the driving principle?
In other words, (), as a result of studying this sphere, which is not near, I made this the leading principle of my judo."
