  • Progressive 444 Series Shocks for Harley Review www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/pr... After more than a decade of ruling the streets with the road proven 440 Series shocks, Progressive unveiled another breakthrough design in the 444. Dubbed Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for its unique ability to dynamically adjust damping as you ride. The result is superior performance no matter the road conditions. A top mount threaded preload adjuster allows for fine tuning with a simple twist of the cap.

    Installed the old 440's on 2012 Elect Glide. Great improvement/handling over the OEM. However, after 2 years the 440 broke apart. Contacted Progressive Susp and they would repair them no charge per their warranty. Obviously, I had to ship them back. Leaving me to reinstall some crappy OEM shocks. (Note to self, always keep the old shocks in the shed) It took their warranty department waaaay too long to process, which was frustrating. HOWEVER, they eventually shipped out a brand new set of 444's to replace. That was a great recovery for their customer service. I recommend these shocks as substantial upgrade over OEM at a reasonable cost. I would definitely purchase Progressive again.

    Will the 444 lower the Electra Glide? I just bought an 08 from a friend that can't ride it any longer, I am 5'6 and with the stock seat, it's just a bit high for me. Would I be better if changing to the Reach seat?

    What do you suggest for 2015 Scout, I’m installing progressive fork springs looking for nice rears to improve comfort and performance?

    I put these on my 2009 Street Glide this past summer. This was the best upgrade I've done to my bike. I weigh 240lbs so bought the 13" heavy duty version. Set the preload to 1.5 rings and boom, never looked back. Anyone want a set of crappy air shocks?

      neek49 how are those shocks I got 2015 flhx, 5ft,11 256lbs think these would work

      After a year of riding I can honestly say it's the best upgrade I've done. Well worth the money. The stock air shocks were terrible. These improve handling and comfort riding over bumps and potholes. No more bottoming out!

      Was the ride stiff because you used the Heavy Duty? Did you consider standard?

    Got about 2000ks on my WG good in a corner hitting bump however ride comfort is too harsh.
    Wouldn’t get them again.

    One a touring, whats the difference between the 444 and the 944. Some folks use the 444 on a touring (I already know the 944 is designed for touring)

    For someone who just cruises, would a 444 be a better choice over a 490? They seem to not use the same technology.

    I have these installed on the Iron 883 I bought and don't know how much I should adjust it? I'm 6 foot 185 lbs. Currently they are all the way unwound meaning not torqued at all. Should I be adjusting them down a line or 2? Finding it hard to find any recommendation as to a solo rider.

      Jarod Exline on both shocks crank the preload knob at the top of the shock to the left as far as it will go; now turn the preload knob 4 complete turns to the right on both shocks; start from there.
      Test ride it.
      If it's too mushy turn both shocks another complete turn to the right.
      Test ride it.
      Keep testing until it feels right.
      Too stiff? Turn in opposite direction.
      You should be able to turn the preload knob up to 12 turns for adjustment.
      When you are finished the bike should drop down about 3/4 to 1 inch when you sit on it; that's called your SAG.
      That's all you can adjust on these shocks. Like the guy said, it gives you a little better ride, a little better handling compared to factory OEM shocks.
      Getting your preload adjustment dialed in before you install the shocks is like buying reading glasses without testing them. Don't do it.
      Adjust the preload knob yourself, after you install the shocks.
      Don't try to install the shocks without a bike Jack, scissors jack, or hydraulic lift. You need to be able to move the tire up and down to align the bolts.

    Lemmy, I just traded in a Honda f6b in on a 2016 CVO street glide, needless to say the Harley suffers big time in the handling departmen. I put a set of progressive springs,fork brace and all balls steering head bearings on the honda and it handled like it was on rails. What would you put on the Harley to get simaliar results? Thanks, Brian

      Okay thanks I'll try 970 progressive piggy backs on the rear and a set of front springs from progressive.

    Ride solo on a 2016 Forty Eight. 5'10" - 245lbs. Can you recommend shock size to stay as close to stock height as possible? Btw; Just curious, Lemmy mentions hand adjustment isn't a easy as Progressive would have you believe - Is there a tool or aid you can recommend for those who may have issues doing this by hand?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Stock length is 11", so I'd recommend sticking with the 11" length in the standard spring rate. As for adjustment, I don't have a specific tool recommendation. Once you have it set up, though, you shouldn't have to change it. -DrewZilla

    Hi Lemmy, I have an HD 48 2013 and most of the time ride solo, ride 2-up one weekend a month, I'm 5'6" 190pounds and my wife is 135, should I buy this P444 on regular or HD spring set up? I was thinking on get them on 12, what will be you opinion on this? Was planning on get the 970 but they are a little high cost thinking on all the other mods that have planed for the bike.

    This is one of the best reviews i have ever seen. Not just of motorcycle parts but anything! In fact progressive should replace the rubbish video on their site with this one.
    The only things is this video does not cover the issue of cost. These bad boys cost almost 650 USD plus the cost of fitting if you don't have a jack or a torque wrench. I wonder if one of the other cheaper progressive shocks would be better if you normally ride on standard tarmac roads....

    I bought a 2000 xlh it has 440's on it the previous owner installed. he was a large man 260'ish now the coils are wound tighter at the bottom but the printing on the coils is upside down is this correct?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is correct. The preload adjusters are generally at the top when mounted, so the more tightly wound sections of the springs should be at the bottom. -DrewZilla

    To be honest, your hands look tiny and scrawny lol. Not sure if you are the best to be judging if the tension is too much to do by hand. People are forever conflating fat (and height to a certain extent) with strength when they have nothing to do with eachother. I'd bet anything his grip is weaker than average.

    • @wclintf
      @wclintf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hands aren't normally known for being muscular, the forearms are where grip strength is actually produced. fat doesn't mean a person is going to be weaker, just means that they aren't outrunning their diet 99% of the time.
