As I understand Ontario Southland tired to buy it, but CN wouldn't sell it at a reasonable price for the work needed to use it. Ontario Southland had many costumers waiting for rail service. It's all gone up to windsor.
The CASO line could've been saved by Class II or Class III operator. They could of also worked out deals with many communities and industries along the route. Conrail got rid of the line to both CN & CP in 1985. With that year, the entire route went downhill. It's nearly all finish now. -_-
When my family would visit my late aunt and uncle in Essex, ON, there was a set of wigwags just down the road at a railroad crossing. I loved to see them work, thinking that they were new, not old! I wonder what make/model they were...
For those wondering, these signals were removed just over 2 years after this video was uploaded. Checked street view, by 2012 these signals were gone without a trace.
CN doesn't want it to exist, as they have made clear by zero maintiance since they bought it, refusing to service old and new customers, not allowing CSX to renew trackage rights and the list goes on. Under previous owership the line used to be a short cut from Buffalo to detroit for CN's competition, that's why it's abandoned.I have Video of 100 car trains running 60-70 mph on this line in the 80's and early 90's. What your seeing is only a small part of the orginal 200+ mile trackage.
Just before the old NS Steam Program was cancel back in 1994, NRHS Bluewater wanted to leased out the N&W 611 for weekend trips between Windsor-Toronto. They would taken the GTR/VIA line. Of course that never happen. -_-
Need to write and tell to your local legislatures/government officials how important having rail-access is vital to your community and industries. Once the ROW (Railroad Right Away) it's gone, it's very hard to put back in place.
sorry to reply to 2 year old comment but that's your typical western cullen bell. it's probably fine it just needs it's contacts set. I was given a brand new one because it didn't work, I set the contacts and now it rings perfectly
Essex and Kent county is slowly dying, without rail acess to business's that need it, how can a manufactoring economy grow? Everytime I see the roadbed it makes me sick, then I hear how the government is investing in infurstructure....were? I road that leads to nothing.
Too little, too late in this case, maybe some company will want to spend the million dollars a mile to put it back now that CN is done running it into the ground. In Conrail condition, the CASO would have been great for 611 to let loose on.
austin ns brony They are no longer in service nor are on the spot. Just a dirt path now. CN signal crew may of saved them or scrapped them. Again, they are gone. All Finish...-_-
Rosalina 751 CN probably won't show up alot on the West coast, but from new York , Ohio , Michigan and down to Florida and Texas, CN is just as big as any other American railway
What happened to the CASO is one of the biggest tragedies to occur in Canadian railroad history.
CN was itching to get rid of this line very quick.
Old school!! Love it!!!
This Wig-Wags are Very Rare if they are old, and Sadly I miss the Wig-Wags
Both Wig-Wag sets are there, this is the set closest to 401 on Gleeson Lane. The other set is on Morris Line.
And are they scrapped or ghathering rust

Reminds me of Disney Pixar’s Cars 2006

I think these were WRRS, but in a more unique style, they date back to the 1940s or sometime around then.

I can see that the bell has some problems
Where in Canada is this place? I'm Japanese and used translation.
That RR Crossing signal looks rather interesting.
It’s a wigwag
That's so awesome how those bells ring
1 year anniversary of this line's abandonment

CN pluck them up when derailing the CASO. They are either scrapped or in storage somewhere.

They are gone unfortunately.

Wig wag
How old is that crossing signal?
They go back to when Canada Southern (Michigan-New York Central) owned and operated the railway line. Modded Canadian Crossbuck added back in 1980s.
it was invented in 1909, according to this site en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigwag_(railroad)
