Saludos

First of all, they are still doing it today in the US. But even if they weren't, if they made it public and everyone started doing it, it wouldn't work any more. They make money by betting overlays. For example, if a horse is 6-1 but the computer says the horse's true odds are 4-1, then they will bet on the horse. But they can't bet too much money because if they did, it would knock the horse down to 4-1 and there would no longer be an advantage.
I know someone who works for them right now. Right now in the US their system is breaking even. But they get huge rebates. If you bet huge volume at a rebate shop, they will give you nice rebates. For example, there is at least one rebate shop that gives 10% rebates if you bet over $10 million a year. So if you bet $10 million a year and you break even, you will still make $1 million a year from the 10% rebate.

Do you understand how parimutuel wagering works? The odds are determined by the money that is bet. So if you have a winning system and other people start using it, it will no longer work. For example, let's say you are a great handicapper and you have a 10% edge. At many tracks, even an extra $500 bet to win on a horse, would turn your winning system into a losing system. For example, I just looked at a random race at Parx (Philadelphia Park) from earlier today. I looked at a 5-1 shot. He only had $5,500 bet on him to win. So let's say you have a winning system where you have a 10% edge. If you bet $550 to win on that horse, you would knock his odds down by 10%. You would no longer have any edge. And if you bet $1,000 on him, you would turn your 10% winning system into a 5% losing system.
Even at bigger tracks like Santa Anita or Saratoga, your typical horse is not going to have more than $30,000 bet to win on him. If you bet $1,500 to win on a horse that had $30,000 bet on him to win, you would cut your 10% edge down to 5%. So can you imagine what would happen if you were a professional bettor and you told everyone which horse you were betting on? You would put yourself out of business.
