With Relink and Versus: Rising slated to release this year, we truly are in a new era for Granblue. Praying Cygames delivers in every aspect, it's been far too long.
It'll breathe much needed new life onto the original title, feel like Cygames have been wating for Relink to release so they can coincide it with a massive update.
Never lost hope in this game. Always knew Cygames will eventually pull through and that they really do put a lot of effort in their products. Fantastic video and really does a justice to explain the road the game's development went through as well as the different aspects of Granblue as a whole with the upcoming game.
And in 2024 they delivered it. Im kinda new to the series and just bought the game this february 2024 and totally worth it, the game is so fun to play with many characters to play. I hope they make a DLC story for this one, overall one of my favorite video game so far in 2024 after Dragon's Dogma 2 and Palworld

Been playing the gacha since 2016, and still to this day; GBVersus made me love the franchise even more and the RPG looks so amazing I'm gonna bet it's gonna be a hit in 2023 by far. I've never played the gacha game, but I can understand playing a game over a long period of time, as I've been playing World of Warships since 2017. Some games just keep giving and never get old. Granblue Fantasy Versus became my favorite fighting game (and will get a new version with improvements hopefully this year as well!). Versus got me into this (although I still don't know the lore outside of that game). I'm really looking forward to Relink! It's my most anticipated game of 2023, edging out Resident Evil 4 Remake. I'm kind of glad I got into Granblue late (2021), as I guess I haven't had to wait as long as others...
@@Rationalific My b =w= I'll keep it as simple as possible: Basically the reason the current version of Granblue Versus failed was because it's "delay netcode" based, which in terms of connection is pretty bad the further the opponent is, making the games sometimes look slow-mo even because the game is trying to "catch up" to the info from both opponents. Rollback Netcode is a system that kinda "predicts" movements instead of continuously sending data every frame, making it way, WAY more smooth and pretty much any fighting game without Rollback is destined to fail at some point; the fact that Granblue Versus is relaunching with Rollback Netcode is a huge W.
Having fewer updates and events is, contrary to what many would think, such good news. The burnout is real, I'm glad they're taking a more relaxed approach with this one.
It's really funny that this game was announced in 2016 and despite the change in development hands, it does feel like Cygames knows what they are doing. They are definitely taking what worked from platinum games when they were in charge and are expanding upon it and building on it with their own engine. Fingers still crossing about the release date and that it will be worth this really really really really long wait because I still want to play this one. Great analysis on this very long journey!
GOD the ART of Granblue Fantasy is second to none. It's honestly always been the best of that Japanese interpretation of anime/manga-fantasy-European-medieval/renaissance era, for character & world design. And the epic fantasy painting style of environment and the airships like the Grancypher... Hands down I think Granblue Fantasy is the single best anime/manga art style I've ever seen (specifically for a fantasy series). Cygame's artists that worked on Granblue Fantasy are so incredible. Io and Lyria are my favourite characters, but I like Rose and a few of the animal eared & horned girls as well. Also, Eugen is a CHAD.

I’ve been riding with this game since it was shown and will continue to do so until it’s released. I think people need to realize all of the factors that impacted Cygames. On top of that, it’s their first console developed title. I think people have been too rough on them. I’m so glad that you came with the facts. So many people spread misinformation about this game.

Cygames delayed Uma Musume and look how it turned out? It is beautiful to play and enjoy, and truly immersive as a horse race simulator-school idols hybrid. I always trust Cygames when they delayed an unreleased game, because it damn well will be something amazing. They took Shigeru Miyamoto's quote of "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." to heart whenever they're developing new games

Not gonna lie. The combat animations looked better back then. It was clean while getting the point across. It wasn’t convoluted with flashes on the screen to block what you’re seeing. Less is more. Not vice versa. Especially in a game where pin point accuracy with dodging a reflexes are necessary. Can’t see shit, can’t dodge or block it. But… maybe they wanted it this way. So you play more of a boss to learn moves instead of being able to see it right away on the first go around.

7 years development also contributing the fact that cygames take it halfway after platinum left (and this is their first AAA project and moving it to new engine). so yeah some poeple that stay updates with news kinda understand why it takes too long and cygames have this behaviour to delay game to ensure their game quality (look at uma musume). Atleast gameplay wise it might be fun because each character plays different with atleast 4 unique skill, passive and burst.
I feel like they should have platinum still help out a bit. But what I'm guessing is that they feel like they could complete the remaining work themselves and decide to do so.
The problem I have with these party-based action games, is that on higher difficulty the AI controlled characters are absolutely useless cuz the AI is terrible and they just immediately die after taking a few hits.

the first time i saw the first trailer back in 2017, i was praying it was going to be for the N Switch. I'm one of the main game player, being honest I preferred the previous version on which special attacks got charged by attacking, not by themselves, by the way amazing job done‼

Only you can give us this information in ABSOLUTE detail. I have been excited for this game for 3-4 years now and am excited it comes out this year. If it's to really gain attention, it needs to be released in a stable form, meaning no bugs, no glitches, no FPS drop, nothing. It needs to come out without any need of a day one patch. Gamers are getting tired of these companies and their terrible business practices. The other part of this and that this game can't have loot boxes or micro-transactions or it's DOA. Luckily it doesn't look like there's any of that. They said they wanted to make a Granblue Fantasy for people that are hesitant to play the mobile version, I just hope they understand why people don't want to touch the mobile version and keep everything that people dislike about mobile games, out of it. This is the only AAA game I have cared about for years now. This is the only AAA game I will be paying full price for when it releases...I pray it's everything I hope for and more. I've also been thinking about how nobody is talking about this game, but that could actually be a good thing. There's no mainstream hype which means, there's no ridiculous expectations. The game can be judged at a base level, which in turn will increase appreciation.
They've been working on the game for almost 7 years, with that much dev time, performance issues are the least of my concerns. Additionally, Relink is a classic narrative driven Action JRPG (with a multiplayer mode) not a live service, it obviously won't feature any kind of monetisation since that goes against the genre and the fact it's a full priced packaged release and not F2P exclusively digital title adds further credence to that.
I don't know why, but I am a little worried. I can't help but think that mobile elements will make its way into this game. I want something adventurous, non-mindless, and Tales-y, but I don't know if I will get the kind of game I'm hoping for. And I've always wondered why Platinum was only involved for so long...
I'm fairly certain that the Society characters like Zeta, Eustace, Beatrix and Vaseraga will be part of the base game rosters though since the Dragon Knights are already in this

Its crazy i didn't realize how soon they showed this game as a thing that they were planning. Gbf was only 2 years old in 2016.. i joined the gacha in 2017 briefly and just heard about gbf relink in 2018 or 2019 i think
It surprised me to hear they remade the engine just to suit the aesthetics they wanted for the game, and even moreso that by 2019-2020 the game was already in a mostly playable state. That would explain why the launch was so smooth. Props to Cygames for picking up where Platinum left off.

Alot has changed and I've been hyped since 2017 i can say I'm satisfied with the final product just hope they continue to give it love with updates and or dlc.
Am i the only one who is upset with what they did to katalina? The only reason i was really drawn to that character was the numerous swords she summoned and fought with in the original concept but they changed her to just summon a knight to fight for her and blast with ice formations. After seeing recent gameplay for characters i have to try to find a spark to draw me to a different character sadly so far ive yet to find the spark :/
Really enjoyed the demo, though the lack of character switch mid combat to set up some cool shit and being unable to use skills in the air felt oddly restrictive.
the game is designed to be like Monster Hunter, which you play online. Hence creating a character switch in solo game isn't worth the time. This isn't Tales or star ocean
Seeing this game continue to evolve is making me very excited to play it. With FFXVI, Octopath II, and all Relink coming out this year, it's a great year for JRPGs!
Good thing is that they didn't bent the knee to the hype and released a half-baked product back in 2016-2017, but commited to deliver a good game. Some people in the comments still feel dissapointed that Cygames didn't release the game when the hype was high, but are we going to pretend now that they should have released an unfinished game? Relink is looking better than before imo, let's see how it plays when it releases, but it's looking good so far.
I can't imagine them possibly having released it in like 2017-2018... GBF had less characters (tho tbf most of the relink playables already existed) and story back then, the arstyle was also on its earlier version. And gbf was a gacha game barely 3 years old so it would have been pretty risky (or not paid off of half baked) so it made sense that they did the fighting game first, which also made granblue a more well known franchise
Out of any game I've played this is one of the few times I've played an action RPG where there are over 20 different characters that are all almost equally fun and interesting to play every time, its literally the reverse of a gacha game where they force you to buy these characters that are more often then not copied and pasted, instead the game has fun gameplay and is overall just fun in general to experience and ensentiveiszes that even more by throwing a ticket to play as 1 new character in the roster of your choosing, *minus 1 though since he's locked behind the story to get him*
the only question now is if this anime game going to be open world or at the vey least a semi open world or not really. I just need at least maybe as massive world map like Atelier Ryza 3. not to mistake that Tales of series is not consider even a semi open world game.

I have been following this since it was first announced. Lots of changes. Plat did an excellent job on the starting point, but I feel that CyGames made a major mistake, one the accessibility is only for story mode, which is normally very easy. They should of done a Tales of approach here, even with Full-Auto on Hard in Tales of Arise, you are not going to beat the final bosses. Second its also a bad time for release. You have FF7 come out around the same time, you have Persona 3 as well and other big games coming out. This game won't sell well during the first few weeks, which is what the publisher wants, studio is happy if it sells one copy. Also announced today is a Tales of expansion coming out at the end of the year, and more than likely an announcement of the next Tales of game coming out next year now that their custom engine is complete. Lastley we have Disgea 7 and another Trails series coming out.
seeing Ares in action i still don't understand why GBVS's Kat isn't a puppet character. i know Rising is coming and Ares seems like some sort of a install type/what Zero has in UMVC3. still it felt weird for lore reason lol
From 2016 to now, I can say waiting for this game is truly a long time coming. I’m guessing the reason why platinum games couldn’t finish and dropped out was probably because of Bayonetta 3. Thank god for Cyagames kept the combo systems that platinum built on. Also a big one, they the og cast from both the dub and the sub too. That’s a win win in my book
Coming to this after playing the demo here in January of 2024, and my gosh, now i see how they nailed the combat system and it's various mechanics. But why did platinum games stop with developing the game and cygames decided to take it in house for development? I'm a bit lost there.
When i think of cygames the game that pops out in my brain is princess connect - which is a gacha games if you haven’t heard of already. Still hard to believe they’re the one who’s in charge. The multiple delay(?) along with the unknown release date is what gives me hope that when it comes out, it ain’t going to be rushed like games these days.
honestly didn't know that this project was announced on 2016, I remember barely getting into the series but got distracted by fgo. by the end of 2018, I got into the series again and heard bout the action RPG and then the fighting game come 2020. Didn't care much for the RPG since I like fighting games more but I couldn't be more excited in my life for this game. I want Cygames to succeed with this game more then anything. I'll be there day 1 to play it, and I almost always avoid buying games on day 1. This'll be game of the century.
Its semi open world. Think of monster hunter. Theres hubs to travel to and when u quest its like a large area to explore(theres chests laying around). Although theyve showed some quests that do look very linear.
For those who play both games, and purchased a physical copy or a digital one for a PS5 of Relink, there is a bonus code for the original game that you can get extra items, its a limited event.
The only thing I hope for the full release at this point is that I can go with just a single character and not a full party if I want at all times. Everything else is looking fantastic thus far.
We don't know if the main story would have a fixed party member or not, but atleast from the showcase we might be go solo for quests. The problem with no party member might be harder access to link time and lower chain burst. Well, it is player preference and perfect dodge and block would support solo character gameplay I guess.
I remember being too hyped for this game. Talking about it nonstop with my friends and all that Then all those delays happened. I’ve been rewatching the trailers and gameplays to get that excitement again, but the magic is just not there anymore 😢 Who knows, maybe i’d find that spark again someday when they release the game. IF they do release it.
I wouldn't call granblue's graphics improved. Where is the advanced lighting effects and atmopheric fog? It looked like there was actually "stuff" in the air. I really hate games that have compeltely clear air. It just looks fake.
Come to this video with my hype for the games release, the one things I noticed from the early combat system to now is the lack of enemy juggle states. Now it seems most enemies stay grounded and just stagger rather then juggle air combat, which I would kind of prefer.
This is how I want my RPG to look/play.. It would be a remake of the game my brother and I created way back in high school, based on the comic we created as kids. The first game was inspired by Chrono Trigger and Xenogears gameplay-wise.. No massive mechs to pilot, or time travel though. Just travel to different planets (3 at the time), 2 different space cities, and 4 derelict starships.. I can not wait to see this, and I hope Cygames also gives new info on Project Awakening too.

If it's to really gain attention, it needs to be released in a stable form, meaning no bugs, no glitches, no FPS drop, nothing. It needs to come out without any need of a day one patch. Gamers are getting tired of these companies and their terrible business practices.
The other part of this and that this game can't have loot boxes or micro-transactions or it's DOA. Luckily it doesn't look like there's any of that.
They said they wanted to make a Granblue Fantasy for people that are hesitant to play the mobile version, I just hope they understand why people don't want to touch the mobile version and keep everything that people dislike about mobile games, out of it.
This is the only AAA game I have cared about for years now. This is the only AAA game I will be paying full price for when it releases...I pray it's everything I hope for and more.
I've also been thinking about how nobody is talking about this game, but that could actually be a good thing. There's no mainstream hype which means, there's no ridiculous expectations. The game can be judged at a base level, which in turn will increase appreciation.
They've been working on the game for almost 7 years, with that much dev time, performance issues are the least of my concerns. Additionally, Relink is a classic narrative driven Action JRPG (with a multiplayer mode) not a live service, it obviously won't feature any kind of monetisation since that goes against the genre and the fact it's a full priced packaged release and not F2P exclusively digital title adds further credence to that.
I don't know why, but I am a little worried. I can't help but think that mobile elements will make its way into this game. I want something adventurous, non-mindless, and Tales-y, but I don't know if I will get the kind of game I'm hoping for. And I've always wondered why Platinum was only involved for so long...

I'm fairly certain that the Society characters like Zeta, Eustace, Beatrix and Vaseraga will be part of the base game rosters though since the Dragon Knights are already in this

Its crazy i didn't realize how soon they showed this game as a thing that they were planning. Gbf was only 2 years old in 2016.. i joined the gacha in 2017 briefly and just heard about gbf relink in 2018 or 2019 i think
It surprised me to hear they remade the engine just to suit the aesthetics they wanted for the game, and even moreso that by 2019-2020 the game was already in a mostly playable state. That would explain why the launch was so smooth.

Alot has changed and I've been hyped since 2017 i can say I'm satisfied with the final product just hope they continue to give it love with updates and or dlc.
Am i the only one who is upset with what they did to katalina? The only reason i was really drawn to that character was the numerous swords she summoned and fought with in the original concept but they changed her to just summon a knight to fight for her and blast with ice formations. After seeing recent gameplay for characters i have to try to find a spark to draw me to a different character sadly so far ive yet to find the spark :/

Really enjoyed the demo, though the lack of character switch mid combat to set up some cool shit and being unable to use skills in the air felt oddly restrictive.
because it wont work with Switch Mechanics , the controls already packed ..there's no way to implement character switch
the game is designed to be like Monster Hunter, which you play online. Hence creating a character switch in solo game isn't worth the time. This isn't Tales or star ocean
Seeing this game continue to evolve is making me very excited to play it. With FFXVI, Octopath II, and all Relink coming out this year, it's a great year for JRPGs!
Good thing is that they didn't bent the knee to the hype and released a half-baked product back in 2016-2017, but commited to deliver a good game. Some people in the comments still feel dissapointed that Cygames didn't release the game when the hype was high, but are we going to pretend now that they should have released an unfinished game? Relink is looking better than before imo, let's see how it plays when it releases, but it's looking good so far.
the funny thing is i've seen some poeple think that current graphic and artstyle is worse or downgrade compared to gameplay reveal.
I can't imagine them possibly having released it in like 2017-2018... GBF had less characters (tho tbf most of the relink playables already existed) and story back then, the arstyle was also on its earlier version. And gbf was a gacha game barely 3 years old so it would have been pretty risky (or not paid off of half baked) so it made sense that they did the fighting game first, which also made granblue a more well known franchise

Out of any game I've played this is one of the few times I've played an action RPG where there are over 20 different characters that are all almost equally fun and interesting to play every time, its literally the reverse of a gacha game where they force you to buy these characters that are more often then not copied and pasted, instead the game has fun gameplay and is overall just fun in general to experience and ensentiveiszes that even more by throwing a ticket to play as 1 new character in the roster of your choosing, *minus 1 though since he's locked behind the story to get him*

I have been following this since it was first announced. Lots of changes. Plat did an excellent job on the starting point, but I feel that CyGames made a major mistake, one the accessibility is only for story mode, which is normally very easy. They should of done a Tales of approach here, even with Full-Auto on Hard in Tales of Arise, you are not going to beat the final bosses. Second its also a bad time for release. You have FF7 come out around the same time, you have Persona 3 as well and other big games coming out. This game won't sell well during the first few weeks, which is what the publisher wants, studio is happy if it sells one copy. Also announced today is a Tales of expansion coming out at the end of the year, and more than likely an announcement of the next Tales of game coming out next year now that their custom engine is complete. Lastley we have Disgea 7 and another Trails series coming out.

From 2016 to now, I can say waiting for this game is truly a long time coming. I’m guessing the reason why platinum games couldn’t finish and dropped out was probably because of Bayonetta 3. Thank god for Cyagames kept the combo systems that platinum built on. Also a big one, they the og cast from both the dub and the sub too. That’s a win win in my book
Coming to this after playing the demo here in January of 2024, and my gosh, now i see how they nailed the combat system and it's various mechanics. But why did platinum games stop with developing the game and cygames decided to take it in house for development? I'm a bit lost there.
When i think of cygames the game that pops out in my brain is princess connect - which is a gacha games if you haven’t heard of already. Still hard to believe they’re the one who’s in charge. The multiple delay(?) along with the unknown release date is what gives me hope that when it comes out, it ain’t going to be rushed like games these days.

honestly didn't know that this project was announced on 2016, I remember barely getting into the series but got distracted by fgo. by the end of 2018, I got into the series again and heard bout the action RPG and then the fighting game come 2020. Didn't care much for the RPG since I like fighting games more but I couldn't be more excited in my life for this game. I want Cygames to succeed with this game more then anything. I'll be there day 1 to play it, and I almost always avoid buying games on day 1. This'll be game of the century.

Its semi open world. Think of monster hunter. Theres hubs to travel to and when u quest its like a large area to explore(theres chests laying around). Although theyve showed some quests that do look very linear.

The only thing I hope for the full release at this point is that I can go with just a single character and not a full party if I want at all times. Everything else is looking fantastic thus far.
We don't know if the main story would have a fixed party member or not, but atleast from the showcase we might be go solo for quests.
The problem with no party member might be harder access to link time and lower chain burst.
Well, it is player preference and perfect dodge and block would support solo character gameplay I guess.

I wouldn't call granblue's graphics improved. Where is the advanced lighting effects and atmopheric fog? It looked like there was actually "stuff" in the air. I really hate games that have compeltely clear air. It just looks fake.
? That fog is still there in the most recent trailer, along with all sorts of other effects depending on the area.

Come to this video with my hype for the games release, the one things I noticed from the early combat system to now is the lack of enemy juggle states. Now it seems most enemies stay grounded and just stagger rather then juggle air combat, which I would kind of prefer.
This is how I want my RPG to look/play.. It would be a remake of the game my brother and I created way back in high school, based on the comic we created as kids. The first game was inspired by Chrono Trigger and Xenogears gameplay-wise.. No massive mechs to pilot, or time travel though. Just travel to different planets (3 at the time), 2 different space cities, and 4 derelict starships.. I can not wait to see this, and I hope Cygames also gives new info on Project Awakening too.
