There was no “Fall-Off” or disappearance. He simply wasn’t ever that good a striker. He had a huge moment for Portugal, and that’s it. Will forever be remembered for that.

Regardless of the “downfall” Eder has one of if not the biggest underdog career in football and he should be proud forever
Here in Portugal everyone knew that Éder wasn't going to be a starter for Portugal. Most of the people were even incredulous that he even got called up to the national team in 2016, mainly due to the fact that he never had scored any goal in official matches (Fun fact, the goal in the final was the only one he ever scored in official matches for the Portuguese national team).
Many saw him as a horrible striker, going as far as creating a viral meme saying that a traffic cone was more useful than him. After the euros in 2016, he gave a very emotional interview in Portugal saying that seeing that meme was a low point in his life, that it destroyed his confidence completly and he needed therapy with a coach to get it back.
Currently, Eder is only remembered by his goal but the people look at him differently (also due to the interview) and in the end he ended up becoming a meme. We also have a song about him that is always sung when teasing the french: "E foi o Éder que os fo*eu!" (it litterally translates to "It was Éder who f*cked them")

People may call him a meme and a joke. Maybe he was one of the worst strikers, and i dont think anyone expected him to score against France in 2016. "The striker who doesn't score" they call him. More useless than a traffic cone, they say...
However, the fact remains: he is the only player in Portugal's history to score a goal in the finals of the european international tournament. And the fact will always remain: he is and forever will be the player who scored and gave us our first european cup.
Kudos to Éder. For real. He did what even ronaldo couldn't (not even figo nor rui costa scored in the 2004 finals, btw). The unlikeliest of unlikely heroes, a true underdog, from zero to hero to zero again but forever etched in history as the one guy who scored the most important goal in portugal's history.
If you, person who is reading this, make fun of eder, i get it, and that's fine, but remember, nobody knows who you are, and nobody will forget who Éder is.
On a side note, not everybody has to have cristiano ronaldo's career to have a valuable legacy. Maybe Éder's legacy should be viewed as the guy who showed us all that even the most "worthless" player can make the biggest difference, and there is true value in that.

His move to Swansea was the catalyst for his downfall. Since joining Swansea his goal ratio dropped from 1 goal in 2 games to 1 goal in 8 games and for a striker is abysmal. Yes he scored the winning goal for otherwise the worst Portuguese squad I've ever seen but he never really kicked on since then.
