I know someone from Ireland that told me about this sport, never heard of it before......she said the athletes of this sport have the most scars than any other athlete, she made it sound kind of barbaric, but it's kind of exciting. BTW, *SUBBED* so I can learn more.

I find it really cool that the whole team defends the net during penalty shots, because the ball is so tiny and fast it makes it more fair.
The shot by the goalkeeper was a free so they could have more in the goal. If it was a penalty it's only the goalkeeper in and they still save some of the shots
I'm from America and play lacrosse and I used to play baseball, and I just heard of this sport today and it looks so fun. I wish there was people who played it here so I could pick it up and try it.

+sharmapulkitmukesh maybe because there is no money, players play for pride of their club ! Its very popular here in Ireland, it was pretty much banned for a long time when the british were in Ireland

+sharmapulkitmukesh Climate is one reason. The pitch is bigger than a soccer one and one of the aims of the game is to run into free space to make yourself more available to receive a pass, so that alone requires a lot of moving about. Ireland's mild climate is fine, it's a totally different story when you go to a place that is hotter and more humid.
Also you have to be able to source the ashwood for the trees and that too depends on the climate.For instance it would be difficult or impossible to grow suitable ash trees in the tropics
Also you can varry the tempo in soccer,but not hurling

I just discovered this as an American. I would rather watch this than Lacrosse any day. Not like I watch Lacrosse though. lol But this looks fun and exciting/entertaining both to play and watch.
So do they get more points if they score in the actual net, opposed to between the big posts? If so, what is a usual score for this game. Also the players wear helmets. Do takedowns happen in this sport? Regards from Bulgaria! :)
Todor Jivkov One point for over the bar and 3 three for a goal . A takedown may occasionly happen but the offender may be cautioned or sent off depending on the intent of the challenge

Do goalkeepers actually save the ball in this game? Small balls, huge nets, bigger goal above the nets.
Just for the record, I'm not being disparaging, just curious. This game looks like it takes incredible skill, more so than any other sport.
serious skill it takes thats true.. ya have to be fast because the ball could come at ya at wicked speed and you have to do your part. very tough game.. and ive never bein a keeper but it is tough again there they do save a few and some of the saves are unreal.. but yeah the goal look massive... sometimes if there a free to be taken near the goal.. the goalie could have 6 in the goal with him.. tough game to be honest yeah.. but pure class.
Depends if you have the keeper stick makes it much better i dont have much experience in nets but ive played nets so
stick.... the keeper hurley would be bout double the normal hurl. it depends they would have bout 5 hurleys. in goal behind them so they would have smaller hurleys for longer puck outs.
the nets are big.Other stick games hockey field hockey shinty lacrosse floorball rink hockey roller hockey have small nets except for bandy and hurling.Bandy has big nets because it has an ancestral link with soccer hurling is linked with gaelic football because they are in the same association the GAA and GAA clubs often play both sports or you have separate clubs sharing the one pitch.With the result that you have nets to big for hurling and the field too big for football,but its worth it for the clubs who want to play both games.Goal keepers do save quite a bit,but points over the bar are the responsibility of defenders further out the pitch

As long as you have the right technique catching it,a soft hand while catching and eyes on the ball it doesn't hurt at all,you just get used to it
I think hurling wouldn't be as good if it was international because it would be less passionate and could even turn into one of those sports with loads of softies diving around the place.
