    I'm in the process of building 6'x16' pens and one is going to be for Georgia Giants. Thanks for the video 😎👍

    I’ve been raising Cortunix quail. I know for them you have to have 3-4 females per males for them. Is that the same for bobwhites? Also, do your females go broody and raise their own young? Cortunix are crummy moms.

      So for bobwhite quail I like to do 2 females to 1 male. I have had 2 go broody and raise there own. But generally I can’t get many females to stay on there nest for very long

    Wire floors should generally be avoided because they can damage the quail's feet. They probably need a solid floor to walk on or have them on bedding

      Wire is fine. But I wait until the baby quail are at least 1 1/2 weeks old before I put them on wire. Until then, I put them on cardboard or paint masking paper.

    just found your video because im curious about raising bob whites. It sounds like you have the breeding pairs separated. After you incubate and they hatch out and finish in the brooder, do you move them all into one cage with no issues? At what point do you have to pair them off and seperate the breeding pairs. Im hoping I can raise them in cages and keep them all together instead of pairing them off.

    • @swvirginiaoutdoorsman8479
      @swvirginiaoutdoorsman8479  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I move them all into one cage together and haven’t had any issues yet. Come spring summer time I will separate them into breeding pairs but I’ll leave the younger birds together

    I raised a bunch over the years for training my bird dog. For a while they look for any excuse to die. Once you get them to a certain point you're out of the woods.

      I have definitely had issues with the chicks! I have to keep a close eye on them and make sure everything is perfect for them. But after about 6 months they are hardy as could be!

      @@swvirginiaoutdoorsman8479 Quail chicks look for an excuse to die. You can do everything right and still loose lots of them. In the wild (predation of course is a factor too) I have seen numbers suggesting 70-80% mortality even in good habitat conditions after 9 months!

    • @swvirginiaoutdoorsman8479

      I just recently had one go broody. What seemed to work was to give her a good nesting site and plenty of space. Don’t bother them much ether. Quail can be stressed easily.
