You are spot on! 7 Sins: The Others is one of my favourite games. Complaining that this game has no campaign mode is like criticizing Chess for not using dice.

I also have this game, the kickstarter edition with all the sins and everything, I bought it from someone and didn't actually back it myself. I absolutely love this game from the theme to the tactics to just everything! Great video.

Hi, I really like this game and I was pleasantly surprised to see your video, trying to defend it from all the negativity around the web. Many many thanks for doing it, sir! Keep up the good work!

I backed this game in the original Kickstarter and have been playing about once a month ever since. That replay ability has been so strong. I am also having a great time with Cthulhu Death May Die as tO7s’ spiritual successor. Enjoyed this video from the past. Cheers

Subbing off the strength of this vid. I backed this on KS and love the style, the artwork, the setting, the fact that the McVeys are involved...all of it. Your points are entirely valid.
People seem to be too quick to expect everything to be laid out for them, there's little to no initiative or imagination but plenty of complaining instead of changing things to fit what you want. I mean 40k is a prime example; it's ALWAYS been touted as a framework rather than a concrete ruleset (and I've played since Rogue Trader so I know) but instead of people sitting down with their group and adjusting things to suit them they just bitch online instead.
No campaign? Well no, because when you have a team of 7 people several of them are gonna die per game so by the second game you're buggered 'cos if you've got 4-5 Heroes left and you run out of Heroes to bring into play you've lost. If people want a campaign then they should get their hands on another Team box or two and maybe a few more Sins and create their own campaign. It's not hard, you just plan out the game setups from the missions available and from the second game onward you just swap in members of other teams or just swap out the whole team for the other box. Alpha Team just about obtained their objective but are now combat ineffective due to losses, send in Omega Team to continue the fight! Or rescue Alpha Team members so you can use them again in following games. That's two links between 2nd & 3rd games right there, it took 10 seconds.
    Keep up the good work!

The Others is a game we keep coming back to in our house, it's such a cool theme! We mainly struggle because we have one person that's just more tactically minded but then it makes the rest of us grow tactically lol. The worst thing about is the price, especially if you want expansions (and availability in English tbh). We got it because it was discounted at our local board game shop, knew nothing about it, do not regret at all :D

I recently bought the game on retail with All the sins and the apokalypse plus the gamma team. I decided to play it yesterday with My wife just for a little to see how it plays, and we got stuck there until 4:00 in the morning. I dont care what other People say, but I loved it and cant wait to play again.

I finally purchased the complete game tonight. This has been a video I've revisited a few times since 2020. The weird theme and tremendous visuals shivered my gaming spine, haha. I finally sourced the entire game collection in an eBay job-lot and dived straight in. Going to really dig in hard to The Others. Not many games have excited me like this. My painting skills are finally good enough to enjoy these bizarre miniatures.

I haven’t got this game but I am very interested. I will likely get it.
I have noticed a thing about some game reviewers. On one hand they want something new. New mechanics. New game modes etc. But then comparisons get drawn with Descent, Imperial Assault etc and games like this (and Doom) are occasionally criticised as they aren’t enough like those with campaigns.
I to like RPG’s. The One Ring by Crucible 7 particularly. Roll over and character development is not a big thing for me in board games. I am happy with a good session and pack away. I can leave the levelling up bit to the RPGs. Each to there own but there is space for great board games of both types.
For me this looks a positive. Good review. Thanks

Really good points. The depth of replays enhancing the game is a solid point but people make snap judgements these days. I have all the others stuff now because even one change can make a big ddifference. My biggest complaint is not enough time to play

they are completely different games, Moloch is fun, light and fluffy, The Others is challanging, dark and grinding. Both are very good games though

G asa thanks for the reply! How about the mechanics, would you say they are fairly similar? I love the theme of both games, different as they are. Just trying to find out if they kinda play the same. Thnx!

I played the game yesterday at my friends house. Liked it more than I though I will. Now let's get few things straight. This game is totally not worth your money from retail, period. Maybe if you can get it cheap in US, but in Europe it will cost you around 90euro for base game. ANd what you get inside base game for 90e is not really worth it. You kinda need to invest at least another 100+ euro for game to start and make sense/replaybility. ANd then suddenly this is 200+ euro game.
On the other hand, KS was great value!
What I didn't like about game ware:
were svingy, I literally lost my leader in 1st round, he came out, didn't do anything, 2 monsters killed him from full health and no corruption withouth a problem, because they got lucky with exploding dice. This can be very frustrating, and after this, I though, yea...we won't play round after this one...I don't need to be frustrated with this game.
But we got over this, and game way quite enjoiable and tactical.
map tiles - why not make them double sided? Pitty.
Compared to rest of production, they looked very bland and boring.
half the charachters are good, half are quite bad to awful.
Some of those dark past cards, oh, you have full health fully equipped hero...to bad, you die at the end of the round or turn to monster...really?!
Returning heroes to boxes and trying to find which guy goes where...ahg
    What I liked:
Tactical - you can't really do what you want, throw dices and hope for the best...you need to build team that sinergizes well, pick with whom to start, and who to get in when someone dies. Pick what to give to whom from equipment. Choose what to do , who to kill, who to activate first etc. There are actually a lot of decisions in this game which is big plus!
Minis - very good, and artwork is also great!
Missions - interesting, you can also even choose which way to go, and what to do. You also have to think, hmm, maybe at this point it's not even in my interest to finish this mission, because it might kill someone etc. For example we played when you get gear you either suffer wound or everyone else gets corruption, and our main asian guy who was the KILLER had only 1 hp left, if we finished part of mission he would die, so this was not option until we healed him.
All in all, game is not great, but also not bad. With few tweaks it could have been even better. Avoid retail though. It all depends about your game group, if your group is not as mentioned here, tactical gamers, they could loose quite easily and loose interest in game, call it unbalanced etc. But if both players and bad guy are good, then you are in for a great time!
Still, I like my Conan more :)

      @severngamingnetwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Agreed with all of your positive points for sure!
After a couple of plays some of those things you mentioned happening really start to not happen (you get better at positioning if Hero player, work out "good" moves and "not so good moves" and the like). I've never seen 2 monsters killing an unwounded, uncorrupted character, and had many games of this now (10 missions altogether) so for that to happen in your first mission at the start of your first round.....WTH?!
The characters I feel are more like tools: when you need a screwdriver, a wrench is "bad"; there aren't hardly any "bad" characters I don't think, just bad for that job/mission. The same character will potentially become very valuable in another mission or map setup (map setup REALLY makes a difference).
We've found the exploding dice have kept it exciting; they help make every fight matter as a lone crappy monster COULD, with incredible odds, do something really awesome. That's where the theme of the game is really strong.....heroic characters/monsters fighting for their lives and occasionally doing something truly heroic. Some people won't like that you can plan and plan and plan and, very very occasionally, those odds go super against you. But...that's games with dice!

Funny to hear what others are complaining about. For me this game actually is a so-so. What I dislike is that there is no scaling what so ever. Yes it is a competitive game, so this is quite a complex topic. What I just realized is that the Sins player gets much less punishment for mistakes and on the other hand there is a huge learning curve for the heroes.
So for me the biggest negative point of this game is, that its not new player friendly, as I tend to play with different groups at least for me this is a big minus.
And I guess thats also the reason why a lot of players think it is not balanced.
The first 4 games I played against myself (mainly because I wanted to learn the rules and dont have too many friends that like Overlord games in general ^^).
Out of 4 runs with everyone (me) having the exact same experience, Sin won 1 by a landslide, won 2 quite comfortable and just barley 1 game I won with the heroes. So yes I believe it is balanced but only when you have some experienced players you really need to build the right team having in mind the Mission and Sin you play against. Sadly this has to happen before you even take the first step, putting new heroes already on a huge disadvantage before anything happend at all.
As heroes you walk on really thin ice. You play too aggressive? You Die! You play too reserved? Time runs out and guess what you die! You have really bad luck? You die!
If you mess up as a Sin player however the heroes progress a little faster, but its way easier to get everything back under control.
The reaction tokens "issue", as you mentioned is another think that deepens the rift between casual and "pro" they basically work in 2 ways: To move tactically, or to punish mistakes (and bad rolls). Inexperienced players obviously do more mistakes and they get brutally punished for it. Sin on the other hand can sit back and relax, waiting for the right moment to strike.
Bringing me to my personal problem Nr. 2:
I love to play lots of different games and most of my friends do too. Jet again that is a personal preference, but this game is more something for groups that play 1 game over and over for some time. Then I totally agree with you it is extremely good balanced.
    So my conclusion:
Yes you are right it is a great game BUT that highly depends on the people playing it. I can fully understand everyone who backs away from it as much as everyone who loves it ^^. So I totally understand that ppl tend to love or hate it. This is not a casual game you can play with everyone and for me that is as I said a so-so ;)

Well, I play this with very experienced tabletop players, and found that the Sins player have almost no chance of winning. Took about five tries to get a shallow win. We started to question if it was correct that you were to replace dead heroes, as 7 heroes is a lot to go through. Now it's about 50/50, and always a challenge.
