    A person is spreading that raw food is DANGEROUS. Nobody is letting spred the LIE that raw is dangerous. I fed my dog Royal canin at first. Just after a week after that he had lethergic, vommited, was sensitive to cetain types of food and at last he fell down sick, feeding raw was the best thing to do just the next day of feeding raw he is always in the mood to play, b'cause of you my dog is the most happiest dog in the world

    I finally found a store in my town that sells raw chicken feet! Gave one to my dog and he loved it. I don't currently have the resources to feed raw (currently enhancing kibble with a rotation of egg, fresh cooked ground meat, and oily fish) and because I'm vegan I just never have any animal bones in the house. Thrilled to be able to add raw meaty bone to his diet every few days!

      I gave my dog a raw turkey wing and today she vomited and had blood in her diarrhea. I’m not sure what happened but I’m afraid of spending 2k on a vet visit if something goes wrong. She’s been eating raw chicken drum sticks with no problem but I don’t know what went wrong this time.

      @@sandracastellanos921. It’s hard to say. Maybe she didn’t chew the bone good enough and she punctured her stomach lining, or maybe she just doesn’t tolerate the new meat. If it doesn’t clear up within a couple of days, I’d go see a vet. My dog is a 20 pound dog, so my meaty bones will be small bones. I plan on starting out on duck and chicken feet, and some little wings and drumettes.

    Your videos have been so helpful. My 8 year old pit bull currently eats a mix of Primal raw products plus high quality canned food or dehydrated food, but I want to transition her to a raw food that looks more along these lines. I’m finding some difficulties, however, because of her allergies. We can’t have any poultry, and beef needs to be feed in moderation otherwise her stomach gets upset. She does best with lamb and rabbit and fish, but these are not as easy (or inexpensive) as poultry products. I’m still hoping I’ll be able to work this out for her though!

      Thank you!! If you have the ability to provide your pup with a balanced meal daily, absolutely! If not, I'd suggest feeding a balanced commercial raw. If you can't do that, do the best you can with what you have. Any dog can be transitioned at any age after being weaned from their mother's milk.

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ady7695 hi! Hare Today has some great blends as well as Raw Feeding Miami, Darwin's, and We Feed Raw. It's always good to swap proteins to give them variety! If your ferrets are healthy you can feed morning and evening, but it's also ok to leave a decent amount in the cage so they can eat it over the course of a few hours. They will know when it's not ok to eat anymore. If your ferret has insulinoma then they shouldn't be without food for too long.

    Thanks, informative. Do you chop chicken wings in smaller pieces before feeding? During chopping, there can be some sharp corners created in bones, are these harmful for cats while eating/ingesting?

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You don't have to, but if you're feeding a smaller animal that needs it sectioned, you can cut/chop them. They are fairly small bones, so no worries about the sharp corners. As the commenter mentioned below, I try to cut the flesh around the bone, and then twist the bones and split at the part where they're jointed, if that makes sense. But the main reason I do that is because I don't want to dull my knives LOL

    I have some questions still. This has been a bit intimidating for me but I got my puppy today and started raw immediately... I wanted to take it slow and offer her the kibble the breeder provided for the first meal... but a lot of the day passed by and she would not touch the stuff. I chalked it up to her being in a new environment and having just left her siblings... but the hours kept passing by and I would try to even hand feed her and she would drop it and shake her head. She seems a bit underweight as well and what I figure is that she was still relying on whatever milk she could get from mom and just hated the kibble and wouldn't eat it... So I offered some raw chicken breast and she excitedly gobbled it up. I then decided to just go ahead with feeding raw the rest of the day, and when I got to the bone I just felt a bit anxious. I first offered a wing tip and she knew exactly what to do with it, it seemed. She chewed it up like I have seen your dog do in your videos. Later I offered the middle bone of the wing and I held that one while she chewed as I was afraid of her swallowing it and choking, not that she showed signs she would try to but I was nervous... so I am wondering a few things after this first experience...
    1) Do they just crush up the bone and then swallow the piece whole, rather than breaking off bits of bone and swallowing them one at a time?
    2) She is 9 weeks old, can I give her the larger bones of the wing? Wing tips are pretty small and I don't stress about it, but should I offer larger bones like the rest of the wing as well as necks?
    3) If I am holding the bone to have control over the situation while she chews, should I make sure she breaks off pieces of the larger bones before swallowing? Or will she crush the whole thing and swallow it whole while all the pieces are attached?
    Thank you if you take the time to read this, I'm intimidated but I do want to give her her best life and she appears to prefer raw as well.

    I could not find chicken backs for my 5 month old kitten anymore so I decided to try giving him chicken wings (flats and drumettes, I can not find wing tips either). His jaw had been trained well enough from chewing on the backs that he can manage to eat the whole wing without much trouble, but I have noticed that he sometimes swallows quite a big chunk of the bone (almost half of the whole drumette) instead of chewing it into smaller pieces.
    Today I noticed an undigested part of the bone (maybe around 2cm long) in his stool. Is this a normal occurrence that can happen if given too much bone or should I switch him back to the chicken backs as soon as possible?

    • @surehang
      @surehang 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a bone problem if he can't digest the bone, it's a digestive issue! Also varying the bones especially for kittens is extremely important so try to switch up with other birds/small animals. A few drops of ACV in the food help making the stomach more acidic so the bones are digested properly :)

    Hello! I have a 9-year old Maltese who's been on the raw diet for about a month and half. How do I know if my dog is eating her chicken wings slow enough? Like how do I know if she chews them enough before swallowing? I feel like she doesn't chew them enough. She crunches down like 4 or 5 times and then swallows, so I've been holding bones for her to make sure she breaks away parts of the wings or feet so it doesn't go down whole. But she seems fine the times she has swallowed chicken wings after less crunches than I'm comfortable with.

    Quick question, my gsd is 13 weeks, decided to get chicken feet for him to try it out, gave him one and he struggled for a bit but started to chew on it for a while and he swallowed it, hes been acting fine since but should I be concerned?

    • @gabrielruiz9189

      sounds like he’s fine but i’m not a vet just another raw feeder. I would just watch his poop other than that he should be fine

    Hey quick question, do you know the bone content of chicken wingtips and rabbit feet? I can't seem to find either

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Small cuts like these are unfortunately hard to find. I've heard rabbit feet are around 50% bone and wing tips are a little altered from the whole wing's percentage (46%)

    Hello. What about dehydrated or air dried bones?

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not recommend them. Any bone dried with heat are very similar to cooked bones and run the risk of splintering.

      Safe handling skills is all you need. Have one place where you prep raw meat (away from where you prep your food) and wash all surfaces properly once done. Of course wash your hands thoroughly as well.

    I'm surprised no one asked this, and you do mention it at 2:49 , but my cat is small, elderly, and sick with kidney disease, I don't feel comfortable feeding her bone that is not ground up into a fine powder. Can you feed her the bone ground up in the food? Is that unsafe? Like food-grade bone meal?? Or just grind/grate up the bone/frame of the meat-supporting-bone? As a human, I don't eat bones so I am having trouble understanding cats and dogs eating and digesting the whole/powdered bone process. Please answer.

    • @ristonalaimo5048
      @ristonalaimo5048 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been watching a lot of your other videos and, for my cat, I've found scientific research that proves you can substitute bones for calcium carbonate or eggshells, like you mentioned in your video about kidney problems in pets, and I will be doing more research and looking into that for my cat. Other studies say don't use calcium carbonate, so I need to learn a lot more. For that reason the original question is now moot it seems, unless I'm not going to use the calcium carbonate. It's tricky.

    • @nogames8982

      I suppose you could. I would be worried about parasites etc. that the squirrel would have because it is wild. But maybe if you froze it for a couple months and then gave it to your dog it might be safe

      Those are a tad bit too big in my opinion, but you can always monitor. I just worry about if it is too thick and you try to take it away, it will cause resource guarding issues down the line. That's a whole other issue though! Is there anything a little smaller you can find?

    I'm looking into switching to a raw diet for my dog, but I'm worried about raw chicken. I've seen it recommended a lot, how do I know what kind of raw chicken is good for my dog?

    • @dalebailey754
      @dalebailey754 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most commercial dog foods contain chicken. If your pet isn’t showing signs of allergies now, chicken is most likely safe for your dog. I am learning to transition also. I plan on giving my dog something new every day as a snack to see what she likes and if she has an intolerance. Once I discover something is good, I’ll add it to her bowl, and keep offering Kibble, decreasing it as I continue to add raw. To get the variety I need, I will check out the Asian market and the Hispanic market, as my local Kroger doesn’t have many of the organic meat choices.

    • @ponrchxy3258
      @ponrchxy3258 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it'll be advisable to not remove the meal, because once the dog is chewing on the raw bone, it is also eating something, not just chewing on a bone.
