What a journey it’s been! Thank you for allowing us on TH-cam to tag along for the ride. Your reactions have been everything, and this final episode has been no different. Looking forward to many more plathroughs hopefully in the future! p.s. Dion jumping in front of Joshua killed me too. What an amazingly well written character. ❤
Cant wait you for playing Final Fantasy VII Remake (much better than FF15 and it being a classic). Hopefully you are not waiting for too long to play it ;)
I have a feeling Clive was the one who wrote the book. I remember there was a side quest where Harpocrates tells clive that he should write a book about his adventures, and Clive basically says perhaps someday he will. Harpocrates naturally responds that he would like to read it.
“It is my greatest wish that someday you will be able to put down that sword and pick up this quill” (paraphrased) I kinda love the heartbreaking idea that he took on Joshua’s name in his retirement similar to how he did Cid’s
That is how I feel too. Cid continued to live after his hand was turning to stone. Clive writes with his right hand and casts magick with his left, so he could have written the book. As far as Jill crying at the end, I think its a combination of things. She could probably feels Joshuas death, but also feeling Clive still alive. Her wish was for Clive to save himself, and Metia going dark could be a sign her wish was granted. She has a very bittersweet cry at the end knowing someone very close had died, but the world is now a better place for it.
In my opinion, I am glad Dion did not have a voice for the ending fight. He only referred to Clive as Ifrit and had no real connection to him at all. All the characters were specific to Clive.
@@itsjavachip All this to say, I would love to see the three of them at the end properly having a cup of tea at a table with the rest of the Hideaway.
I cried so much when I finished it like someone close to me died much.. if a game made me feel like this a total masterpiece. Good characters, msuic, story well spent tears hosntly..
Yeah about a week passed since i finished this game and the knife is still twisting. I don't think i've ever seen such a profound and bittersweet ending in a videogame ever. The ambiguity is perfect and it was the right thing for Clive to do. It's brilliantly written and acted. I haven't been able to play any other games yet.
What an emotional roller coaster at the end.. i went through a week of the stages of grief after finishing.. i wanted to hate it for how it made me feel.. and now i have finished it 3 times and watched a handful of people finish the game and still ball my eyes out each time..
Wow I'm honestly impressed you played through it three times already! I'm not sure I can play through it again anytime soon just because it was so emotional!
I'm so embarrassed. I'm sitting alone in my parked car, in an empty parking lot at 10:51 at night, just going to town on these overpriced Crumbl cookies with tears in my eyes as my phone clings to its last 9 percent of battery life. And this video is keeping the tears rolling. I am sobbing 😭😭😭😭😭😭 This game packed such an emotional punch with tons of happy and sad moments in this vicious world
Thank you for playing for finishing this game, as a long time Final fantasy fan, you became one of my favorite reactors, I love how you take your time to analize every single scene, I hope that this game made you play the older ones in the future.
what a finale. so much emotion. so much pain. and VENGEANCE. this game made me cry. it made me pop off. it made me proud. that final punch. that Final Fantasy line. jill crying as the red star Metia died. clive on the beach...man. 10/10 experience.
I completed my NG+ run just a couple hours ago and I got used to what will happen if I complete this game again but your reaction to this brought me the tears back. Seeing Jill cry made me tear up really, really bad on my first playthrough. But even on the second I was crying from the inside. The ending looked more like a happy ending close to the credits because when the sun came up, Jill started to smile for a couple seconds, and even the book made me confirm more that Clive is actually alive. Still I wish a dlc for this game, no matter if I have to pay extra the game gave me the most amazing but also the most saddest experience in a video game ever. Keep up the good work I might aswell look on your livestreams someday :D
@@RavusNox-z5i there is also a chance that Clive may be still alive, if you paid attention f.e on the romantic side quest with Jill and Clive, Jill said:,, No matter how terrible the night, dawn will always come...that you would always come for me". The ending right before the credits is proof enough. Also only Clive's Hand got stoned away, not his whole body even tho he was mentioning using Ultima's power would end him. On the other hand there is still our lost Eikon: Leviathan (Jote). In case you can build up a scenario of her finding Clive close to completely turn into stone but her coming for the rescue with her holy water to cure Clive. Its an open ending you can actually make your own ending in your mind but the hints of telling Clive actually is alive are definetly there
@@RavusNox-z5iI dunno, if the kids references to events were anything to go by it reads more like a storybook than a historical account. Also the very very opening dialogue in the game sounds like it could be the book, and it was Clive’s voice narrating it. He is no stranger to taking on the names of those he loves too, he did it with Cid. It’s all a bit up in the air though until dlc does or doesn’t confirm it
Wonderful! Absolutely heart-wrenching. Clive's integrity and sacrifice are all really touching -- where it'd be so much easier to give up over and over but strength comes from adversity. Reminds me of that poem by Rumi: “I said: what about my eyes? He said: Keep them on the road. I said: What about my passion? He said: Keep it burning. I said: What about my heart? He said: Tell me what you hold inside it? I said: Pain and sorrow. He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
This playthrough has been one of the most memorable playthroughs of any game that I have watched, yet. As a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, it brings me joy to see someone enjoy this game. I love it more each time I watch or play it more.
I loved watching your FFXVI playthrough more than I have any other creator - it was such an emotional journey to go through, and I'm thankful you shared it with all of us. I didn't know your channel before this, but I am very excited to watch you play DS1 next. Looking forward to more adventures!
What a game! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. Your commentary and genuine emotion throughout the playthrough was great! Loved the post-game analysis, wrapped everything up nicely. It was fun watching you on this journey. Way to go Java, keep up the good work!
The biggest theory with the ending of the game is that of the baby being born at the end or Medicine girl. Out of all of the Dominants only one never turned up, Leviathan, which has lead many to speculate a dlc could take place where this Dominant returns who can posses healing or rejuvenation powers. When Dion was injured Medicine Girl gave Dion fresh water from unique river, a river of fresh water which in many FF games Leviathan have been known to originate from. As to who’s this dominant or who’s it going to awake from, is left to theory. All in all. Fantastic run, you genuinely have been the funnest Playthrough I’ve seen in a game in a long time. Cheers. (TooCute4LA)
I've been quietly watching this playthrough after I finished my own, and I have loved getting to know you throughout this game! You have such a loveable energy, and I'm definitely going to check out some of the other games you have played! Thank you so much for taking us on this journey with you. ((And I'm team-Clive lives! He is the one who coined the "final fantasy" line in the game and was the only other person around to hear it, so it makes sense that he might use it for a title for his novel :D))
This genuinely brought such a smile to my face thank you so much! I'm thrilled :) and YES PLZ as much as I think thematically it's strong and impactful that he dies, I do really want him back and I think it makes a lot of sense that he does live
Of course!!! You have such a lovely personality and I’m so looking forward to watching you more!! And yes - after all, Clive’s whole story arc was about him learning to live for himself, so if he lives, he would get to do that. I’d be “fine” if he didn’t, as that would also make for a fair story ending, but just based on his character development, as well as all the side-missions…I can’t help but feel that he is alive!!! ❤
I allways come back to watching this video i will never get tired of it thank you so much for your awsome personality and amazing gameplay your one of the best youtubers out there
It's hard to figure out what to say. I had actually just finished my playthrough of this at the same time you uploaded this. I mean I was literally watching the credits of my own playthrough when YT notified me you uploaded this. And because I hadn't suffered enough, I watched your playthrough of the endgame directly afterwards. It's so hard to say how I feel about this game right now because I love a story that can get you that invested. Everything about this game had me hooked from start to finish and I absolutely loved it, however, I also feel like I've been traumatized now too. My heart was aching; my eyes were red and irritated from tears. As much as I liked playing it, this is probably one Final Fantasy game I'm not sure I could handle a second playthrough. There have been a few tragedies in FF stories, but nothing like this. It's amazing and depressing all at the same time.
I know exactly what you mean, it's an AMAZING game but emotionally taxing. Definitely isn't one I would be looking to replay anytime soon but is definitely one of my favourites of all time
Loved your playthrough! Going to stick for more content :) I'm not a big FF guy but FF16 blew me away. In one of the ff16 interviews Yoshida said: "I think a good script is something that doesn't give all the answers at the end. It invokes a lot of feelings. It makes people think... it leaves a little bit of doubt there at the end. You're going to have finality in the main beats of the story, and you're going to get those answers. But there's always going to be that door left open a little bit to get people thinking." For me personally - I find evidence pointing to Clive surviving pretty convincing. Such high value side quest with this choice of words put right before the final mission and then the way "sunrise" scene is played out is 100% intentional.
This brought such a smile to my face thank you so much! Thrilled you enjoyed and are sticking around for other content. FF16 was just incredible. I do also agree now that I'm not reacting to it right when completed that it's very likely he's still alive
Here's a TLDR for ya! As a long-time FF fan: been playing since I was around 5-6yrs old, have played every title since and it's franchise that got me into JRPGs in general, it's heartwarming to not only see a first-timer's reaction to FF16, but to see how much you truly enjoyed this. I hope your enjoyment on this will encourage you to try out some of the older ones! After getting my 100%/Platinum, I started watching some streamers reactions. You had my favourite reaction for a lot of the scenes by far. You're so emotional and just seeing you get so into the story was such a joy to see. I do admit, I did skip a lot of the minor sidequests while watching, but I did watch some of the heavy hitters mid/end game.16 is absolutely not without it's flaws as you've pointed out, but despite it's flaws, it's now my #1 fav FF. FF10 is good! A lot of people's favourites, but it's honestly halfway down my list. 16, 13 Trilogy, 6, 4, 9 or 15 are my top 5. I switch between 9/15 a lot as 5th place. P.S. One of my fav small FF moments: Enterprise! That's the name of FF4's airship made by Cid Harpocrates quests - Quill Pen. Clive wrote the book taking Joshua's name. There's no way Joshua would know how the fight w/ Ultima/Ultimalius would have gone as he was passed out. Joshua's dead. Dion MAY be alive. -> Torgal's howl, as opposed to a cry (like he did with Cid) -> Metia's fading is because magick is now gone from the world. Not Clive fading away. -> The sun rising: you can see Jill's tears turn into a smile. In her last sidequest, she says "When dawn rises, I know you'll always come back to me" -> Clive also narrated the story (Beginning & end. It's his voice) -> The Platinum Trophy is named "The Chronicler" Etc. etc. But, it's all up to interpretation. I'll choose to believe he's alive :)
What a game! So many epic and fantastic scenes in this one. I will probably remember scenes like walking the sea floor the at the Naldia Narrow or the Phoenix drifting around the blooming crystal at the Twinside forever. Also Dion is my favourite character in the whole game. Fingers crossed for a DLC. :)
This game broke me down so much, I still can't believe it. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan, like, my body's fully tattooed with arts from the franchise and all and this game shook my top 5 all the way to the first place, tied with FFXIV. The story was incredible, I just couldn't stop playing it until I was through. When it happened though, I was depressed for a good week. Such a bittersweet ending.
@@itsjavachip I don’t know if I have ever been so devastated by the ending of a game, and a shared view of the moon in the sky. Gutted dude 💔 So enjoyed watching your playthrough, even if it caused me to sob away my morning
This was a refreshing journey to watch with you. I am with the % of the fandom in which Clive is still alive. Nonetheless like the first comment I left on youtube the first time. I say it again. This whole game was an experience. Thanks for making me living it again throught your twitch streams. It was beautiful watching someone else living it with the same great passion I felt during the game. Really It'sjava. Thank you. And you'll find me here again as soon as there will be another game with a great story ( maybe a DLC with Jill, metia and the medicine girl mistery?...Who knows).. Can't wait. And hope to see the channel growing to 10k Giano
at the end it is implied that clive survived and wrote the book called final fantasy under joshua's name. If you remember the final side quest with harpocrates, he gives clive a pen and mentions that maybe one day he can hang up his sword and become a writer, forshadowing that final scene.
I beat this game about a month ago and when I got to this cutscene, this agonizingly sad cutscene, I watched all of it, put the controller down and started sobbing, all this happening over a friends house. The only other game to make me sob was metal gear solid 3 Snake Eater. But this game broke me, mentally and physically.
I've been continously surprised that people see the ending as open to interpretation and that our main boys are still alive. For them to be alive at the end would ruin one of if not the main theme of the game, to live and die on your own terms. Clive, Joshua, and Dion took on Ultima knowing they would almost certainly die. In the end they gave their lives in order to create the world they want, knowing that they won't to get to live in it. The one "positive" of the situation though is they each fought and died on their own terms. Clive even declares in the face of his own death: "these are our terms". The post-credits to me is just there to convey to us the audience that yes, our lovable heroes did succeed in their mission to create a world without magic. I'm pretty sure we see Joshua scribbling in a book at some point in the story, so I figured he handed it off to Jote (or someone) just before they left. Maybe she or someone else filled in the ending afterwards? Not sure. I guess in the spirit of conversation then, this all is just my interpretation. I'm really not trying to be mean here but I do think alot of the theories about one or all of them being alive stems from the various ways we react to death. Losing these characters often feels like loosing a loved one. Alot of the "alive" theories have a bit of a bargaining vibe to them but that could just be me reading into it wrong.
I know what you mean, my original interpretation is in line with yours, I think it thematically makes sense as crushing as it is. I do see evidence supporting the Clive is still alive though!
I would suggest that though Cid’s original plan was for a place to die on your own terms, Clive’s was instead to live on your own terms. The more salient theme in the game is actually Cid, Jill and Joshua all at one point telling Clive to save himself. I would argue that it would not be out of keeping of the themes at all for Clive to survive
The characters are telling Clive time and time again is that he should save himself because all he is doing is saving everyone and bringing doom to himself.
I don't think Clive being alive would ruin the theme. The main theme of the game is fate and deciding your own fate instead of adhering to the "pre-determined" for you. Clive destroying the crystal and fully destroying the exact thing which decided his fate in addition to the other dominants and bearers is in line with that theme regardless of whether he lives or dies. Clive's overall goal is to create a world where people can live on their own terms and destroying the crystal is also in line with that whether he lives or dies. I don't see the alive theories as bargaining but just based on subtext within the game. Hippocrates saying Clive should write a book and then Clive being the one that narrates the beginning and end of the game for example. The star fulfilling Jill's after saying she knew Clive would always be there when dawn broke and the last shot being dawn breaking as another example. Those all could be wrong of course but it's not like there's no basis for them. One of my thoughts on why Clive could have lived is because he didn't petrify all the way the instant he used all his power. If he had the power of all the dominants and Ultimas, wouldn't using that amount of immense magic all at once petrify him right away? I think it's also not unrealistic for Clive to write a book under Joshua's name to keep his name alive. Joshua being alive still wouldn't ruin the theme, but I think it would take away the narrative impact of his sacrifice. I think Joshua becoming Clive's shield just like Clive was for him as his last act has a lot more emotional impact if he dies. It would also take away the impact of the flashbacks.
I've seen you play a fair few games now, and I never thought a game would come close to seeing you play AC Odyssey, which was absolutely epic to watch. FF 16 came really close, and it was a joy to see. Brilliant playthrough. Well done, Java.
My personal reflection is that Dion died and Joshua/Clive survived to write a book together. With the writer leaving things open to interpretation, that is my personal cannon accepted ending. However, I love exploring fanfiction that paint other's opportunities good or bad (I refuse dead dove wholeheartedly). Jill also smiled at the dawn, so I fully think Clive is alive with a hand or arm missing.
They have announced DLC coming for FF 16. I am hoping the DLC follows what was going on with Cid in those 13 years before he met Clive. I would love to play as him and the story could be about his falling out with Benedicta and Barnabas and how he started the first Hideaway.
One of the recurring themes of the game is how Clive needs to learn to save himself, and if you did Jill's final quest, you will also see how she mentions she knows things get tough but she knows how he will always return to her once the dawn breaks and the sun rises, which is exactly how the game ended. Also, you were already told of the loresman's desire for Clive to write a book, and if you note it, Clive is the narrator of both the first lines in the game and the last ones too. One more thing, when you platinum the game, the last trophy you earn is called "The Chronicler", so the theory of Clive being alive and taking Joshue's name is very strong.
You're forgetting the existence of the Undying. Remember Cyril? "I am Cyril, Knight of the Undying, and bearer of the Burning Quill... ...charged with chronicling the mortal deeds of His Grace, Joshua Rosfield, Keeper of the Flame of the Phoenix... ...and rightful Archduke of Rosaria.". I feel like it's pretty obvious that it was Cyril and the Undying who chronicled the events Clive, Joshua and the Dominants. It is, quite literally, their duty when it comes to Joshua. Them crediting the author as Joshua makes sense when you consider this as they work from the shadows and the only thing they want to do is serve. But the ending is open ended enough that it can be interpreted more than one way, I suppose.
For me this is a work of art because of the way it moves your emotions and it really takes you to that place and that feeling ❤ Love to see your reaction I also cried so hard for so long 😅🫶🏻💖✨
Reasons to believe Clive survived: -The game begins and ends on Clives narration, as if he is reading a story... one only he would be able to tell. - Clive and Harpocrates speak of how Clive likes stories and wishes to write after all is said and done. - Clives left hand turns to stone, as it is the one he casts magick with. He writes with his right hand, so he could have written the book. - The author of the book is "Joshua Rosfield", but we know Clive took on Cids name to honor him, why would he not honor his brother the same way? - Jill prays to Metia (the small moon) for Clives safe return. In the end, the moon goes dark, which could signal her wish coming true. She has a bittersweet cry, likely knowing Clive save the world, and himself, but she also feels the death of Joshua.
Love you reaction, every time you cry I cry to 😭 this so depressing yet beautiful story, I think this is my favorite Final fantasy now. Keep it up you earned a sub.👍
Welcome to the fandom! FF is an anthology series as many may have told you already, so don't feel like you're missing out on everything if you don't play them all. A lot of the numbered entries' world settings may be inspired by medieval Europe like XVI's but there's some futuristic sci-fi, steampunk and present day thrown in, as well, to mix things up. One world setting that's unique to the series would have to be FFX's South Pacific island-style setting. Minus a couple of mandatory ice and snow levels (because video games), it's the JRPG equivalent of getting a fantasy tropical vacation fix when you're growing tired of the middle of winter. It was the last really turn-based entry in the series before the slow crawl into the action combat there is now in the most modern entries. I dug FFXV, too, and maybe you'd might feel more at home with that one as your next since FFXVI was your first. Like Clive, Noctis is a "royalty-in-exile" protagonist. The most basic premise of his story, however, is that he goes out on a summer bachelor party road trip and a lot of things go south for him on the way. Ha!
This is for peoples peace of mind: Clive survives Clive does in fact survive at the end of Final Fantasy. Here is my rundown of the last events in the game: 1) Clive beats Ultimate and absorbs his power. 2) Clive returns to the real world and tries to resurrect Joshua. Clive heals Joshuas body, but as it was already stated, the Phoenix can only mend flesh and not the spirit. So while Clive is able to heal Joshuas body, Joshua has been dead for too long at that point and his spirit is gone. 3) Clive uses all of his new found power to destroy Ultimas last crystal and destroy magic for good. In process Joshuas body is destroyed as well (so Joshua couldn't have survived and written the book in the end). 4) Clive survives the destruction of the platform and swims back to a beach, where we see him attempting to cast a spell, but failing. Magic is gone for good. His arm has been calcified. Clive does not die from his hand being calcified. That calcification spreads the more non-Dominant Bearers use magic. We've seen affected Bearers with both of their arms and legs calcified still clinging on to dear life. 5) He looks at the Moon from the beach as does Jill from the Hideout. She starts crying, because she is concerned, but as soon as the sun rises she stops. Prior to the final battle and during their last quest together she tells Clive about how he had faith. She knew that no matter how dark the night got, the sun would always come up. That Clive was her sun and that he would always come back to her. 6) Off-screen Clive returns to Jill and they live happily ever after. (I really wish we would have seen all of this). 7) Many, many generations later we see two kids at a house playing. One of the kids uses stones to make fire for supper. Magic is gone. It's a myth at this point even. They continue playing and using the names of the characters they've read in a book in the house. The older brother is playing Ifrit, the younger the Phoenix and their dog is Bahamut. The name of the book is Final Fantasy and it's the biggest giveaway that Clive is still at the end. Even besides the fact that we hear him narrating the end before that scene. During his last fight with Ultima they talk about fantasies and Clive specifically makes argument by using fantasy and final in his sentences. So he would have been the only one who could have named that particular book that way. I assume that he writes it under Joshuas name in order to - honor his fallen brother, who saved him and... Cid / Clive was a known outlaw, so that guy writing a book probably wouldn't have been that profitable. Also, on top of that, during a side quest Clive tells Sohocrates (or whatever that old guys name is) that once he is done swinging his sword, he will pick up a pen and write a book about his adventures.
I personally think this ending only works if they all died at the end. It's in line with the themes of the game more so than other interpretations and it has the most impact imo. The game makes it pretty clear from the outset that it's a doomed quest in one way or another
Btw. Clive’s not dead. He wrote the book at the end (he honored his brother just like with Cid by getting his name). If you’ve played the side quests and followed the story closely, you know. They’ve planted the seeds for everything but you need to be very focused on dialogues and everything to get the maximum from the ending. Clive’s the only one that knows the whole story.
Oh also, totally agreed re: animation stuff. But I noticed a lot of those animations were straight up from their MMO final fantasy 14, which the producer/director of this game (Yoshi P. You'll hear his name a lot! Amazing guy) also runs. So it's like they have little emote animations that they can then plug into a character model to trigger with dialogue so that they can quickly build out content. When Yoshi P came in and cranked out this game in like 2/3 years (remember final fantasy 15 took ..... 15 years?) he used a lot of tools from 14 for efficiency's sake; minus the itemization and combat and all of that being completely different, the games actually play very very similar. The way the world is built into individual maps that are stitched together, the way you go from free reign to then beginning cinematic units of gameplay, the pacing and all of that.
As one of a long time final fantasy fan, your reactions has made me really happy. Whatever debates went on about this game, your genuine reaction shows how much you enjoyed the game and it really delighted me that someone just enjoyed the game as it is to the fullest and how the game manages to move people still. I hope the game be one of the most memorable for you. My interpretation of the ending is, whoever wrote that book (be it Joshua or someone else), Clive should be alive as the 'Final Fantasy' word did not come out until Ultima's battle, and only Clive alone knows about it. It is heavily implied the battle went on in Clive's head too, on top of it. I have been enjoying your thoughts about every scene as well. Thank you very much for playing the game. Thank you as well for your playthrough uploads. It was an amazing journey.
@@itsjavachip Whatever the discourses happening in and out of the community, I really hope you'll enjoy more of the franchise's game as they are (if you feel like it, of course!) If it interests you, I will be more than thrilled. I am looking forward to seeing your past archives from now on, and happy that I found a great streamer. I hope you keep enjoying every game you play, whichever they might be! Have a great day.
Great playthrough my 2nd fav game all time. my thoughts.. Clive lived and wrote the Final Fantasy book in Joshua's name hints the quill given to u by lore master and saying Clive wo put down sword and write a book .. and the sun rise when Jill said he will always come back to her.. and Clive narates the story there are a few other hints. But this is a great game. it is Heart breaking for sure it broke me hard :( ty for the Vids and a great time . Keep up the great work .LOVE the VODS
24:30 There is no right choice in the scenario. Let the crystals drain the world of its life, with Blight and aether-floods. or destroy the crystals to revive ancient deities that deny humanity... at least the defeat of Ultima yields some kind of hope for the world.
Lots of people didn’t notice that there was one Eikon that never appeared in the game. Leviathan. It’s rumored that it is either the medicine girl because she specializes in healing and also comes from the family that would produce the dominant of leviathan. Or the widows baby that we saw at the end, due to her being resistant to turning akachic. It’s stated in the game that the baby was a bearer, but it’s also very possible that it could be a dominant. As much as I want to believe that it’s the medicine girl, strong evidence pointed towards it being the widow’s baby, albeit he only would’ve been a dominant for 5 minutes due to Clive killing Ultima and eliminating all sources of magic from the world😂😂😂.(I’d be mad and happy at the same time if I were a dominant and lost my powers in that way lol) There’s a good chance we’ll get Leviathan DLC featuring Cid as the main or just DLC for Cids backstory according to the rumors. Also, dominants don’t lose their powers after Clive copies it for himself. Everyone was still very clearly able to fully prime afterwards. People who are less skilled lose control of their Eikon. That’s the only side effect. Dion was one of the most skilled Eikon user(arguably only 2nd to Barnabus) so he was unaffected.
Although I watched several streamers for the big moments your playthrough was the only one I watched all the way through. I have to say whatever brand of makeup you're wearing deserves the MVP
That damn music “a sky of shattered tears” as Jill ran off, torgal howling. It hit me hard in the feels! The book though, I don’t know if it was written before what happened or possibly lived on. Cause the mother says it’s just a “fantasy”. I’m already mostly through NG+ on FF Hard mode. It’s very taxing but worth it. Subbed and Liked though just for going through the game 👍✊.
@@itsjavachip it’s not easy but I’m kinda rushing through thanks to the magic skip button lol… I already made it to waelod. So far I am at level 82. Trying to get that sweet 700 sword
@@itsjavachip still hurts to watch the death scenes and the music behind it. The torgal side quests like the TREE HOUSE and him howling hits me very hard cause I lost my golden a few months ago…
I just want to point out something: Every time we defeated a boss we got the victory fanfare, except between phases when the boss wasn't yet defeated. We never got a victory fanfare for Ultima...
So I believe Clive lives. He's the only one who knows all the events from start to finish in such detail such as the final fight. He writes a book since he only lost his arm, pens it in Joshua's name. They both move to the continent and travel together. When the sun comes up she begins to smile. So as much as she lost his aether (like how he could tell she was alive when she was captured) she doesn't know for definite if he's dead. Alot of hints she was pregnant after the beach scene too. So they could have had a baby and called him Joshua, and it was he who wrote the book. But either way, if you've done all the side quests there's alot of hints he lives in the end.
So glad I was able to catch some streams live before you finished! I found it so refreshing to watch from the perspective of someone who was completely new to the series and without any biases. It was also a complete joy to watch because of how invested you were to the characters and the lore of the game. Whether I was just watching or commenting here and there, it was always a blast because you were having fun too! It's probably why your playthrough has been my favorite! Glad you loved the game and onto the next one!
I see some comments that some people think anyone who thinks they're alive is just trying to cope or deny the ending or its 'power' in killing everyone. But I've played this game twice and read all the lore and there are just too many lines and moments that point to them being alive for me to just shrug them off as dead. You can find all the evidence and theory videos if you want to catch anything you missed and decide what ending makes the most sense to you with the evidence in hand. Just be careful folks with ascribing psychological issues to people who disagree with you. People thinking they all lived aren't just in denial, any more than people who insist they all died aren't just edgelords that want the melodrama. We each have the right to look at the evidence and honestly interpret it. Thanks so much for the amazing playthrough, I found you through this game and I look forward to seeing what else you do. Great job!
@@andy-utop You can have your own opinion of the evidence, but neither conclusion is unsupported. Saying that someone is 'coping' because their conclusion differs from yours is claiming that their conclusion isn't based on evidence, which is disrespectful. Some of the comments are suggesting that the only way to conclude that any of them lived is people in denial or just trying to create a happy ending where it doesn't exist, and that's just not fair. If you think they died, that's fine - but judging other people's conclusions, or attributing their conclusions to something other than the evidence as they see it, is just arrogance. Disagreement is good. The stance of assuming that people who disagree can't be doing so based on their experience of the game isn't.
Leviathan is the only Eikon never shown. Clive revives Joshua, but doesn’t wake him up because Joshua would’ve tried to stop him from ending the blight via sacrificing himself. However, Clive washes up on shore out of a fall into the ocean below. Therefore, it’s fair to assume Joshua washed up ashore somewhere else still alive. How did either of them survive the fall into the ocean? Well, where could Leviathan and its Mothercrystal originate? Doesn’t Clive briefly mention a mothercrystal by a more nordic sounding name deep beneath the ocean’s waters to Jill, shortly after the cutscene where they make love and kiss on the beach? Or, did I miss the part of these playthroughs where that particular mentioned mothercrystal is destroyed? Idk, just theory-crafting out loud in a comment section. 🤷🏼♂️
I wish the NG+ had a different ending or more content etc. I wish we could see Joshua surviving along with Clive as well with an amputated left arm or hand. Hate to see everyone die but they did restructure all of their reality so that comes at a heavy price. Loved your play through!
The DLC or expansion for the game will be similar to X-2. Jill and the crew know Clive is still alive. Torgul howling shows he knows Clive is alive. Wolves howl to call back a pack member. Somehow they figure out the getting Clive home involves finding the lost Eikon Leviathan which will create a wave of sorts that Clive rides home. Then he writes the book in Joshua's name.
@itsjavachip nothing has been confirmed. They only said "producer Naoki Yoshida is saying that the game’s development team is looking at “options” for how to address fans’ demand for more content." Before playing I was happy they initially said no DLC is planned and the game is complete. After finishing and crying my eyes out, I'm hoping they have some more story lol.
Most likely Clive survived, because both Sid and Jill lived with stone hands, so they wore gloves on one hand, and Clive wrote a book indicating the author of his brother.
its a bitter sweet... beautiful story .. best characters ... gameplay also is not as bad as people said it was.. I had fun , lots of it and emotional rollercoaster ..its my game of the year
If you're into this kind of storytelling and want more of it, these same devs made an other little game called Final Fantasy 14. Its free to play all the way to level 60 (now evel 70 come october) with no restriction on game time. Its absolutely adorable, charming and beloved by so many because of the same amount of heart put into it like they did with 16. Join Eorzea today!
@@itsjavachipyou totally should. It’s an MMO so you’ll be playing with a lot of other people, but it’s one of the best stories in gaming I’ve ever played (and definitely some of the best villains!). Great playthrough of 16 - though I like to believe Clive lived ^_^
Joshua is an angel, i'm convinced. The ending after the credits, i like to think Clive and Joshua are inseparable and will always be together in every life
My 5 cents despite being fine with Clive dying. The way the ending played out makes it pretty much clear that Clive sacrificed himself, makes sense from a narrative point of view, but I do believe its supposed to be an open ending for those who pay attention. Clive turning to stone is obviously implied and the logical outcome but its kinda bugging me. In that very moment when the camera panned away, magic started to slowly disappear from the world (Metia was gone) so without magic there should be no curse anymore and it should stop at his hand. Also im not sure how Jill knew that Clive died. Metia isn't tied to his life force, its just a wishing star so its more likely she lost hope. On top of that she couldn't feel his presence anymore not because he died but because they all lost their powers. After the Phoenix Gate incident Clive was also proclaimed dead, and back then Jill also believed in him coming back after seeing flower petals in the rising sun - a parallel to the final shot before credits. Its not a 50/50 coin flip open ending, he's very likely dead but there's a hope for those who want to believe. That's why YoshiP himself said its a hopeful ending, not just for the now magic-less world but for Jill too as she smiles at the dawn. Someone had to write the book. Either Joshua himself, or Clive who pulled a Cid with Joshua's name. We'll never find out. And it kinda sucks, I hate loose ends and ambigious finales.
"Someone had to write the book". Yep, that would be the Undying, remember them? Not a lot of people do so I don't blame you. "I am Cyril, Knight of the Undying, and bearer of the Burning Quill... ...charged with chronicling the mortal deeds of His Grace, Joshua Rosfield, Keeper of the Flame of the Phoenix... ...and rightful Archduke of Rosaria.". It was more than likely Cyril and the Undying that wrote the book as it is their duty to chronicle the deeds of Joshua. But seeing as they don't care for fame or glory and only want to serve then it makes sense they credited Joshua, the one they serve, as the author.
I hope you try the Final Fantasy mode with NG+. Getting the Ultima weapon for Clive, so worth it. I would also recommend using Will 'O the Wykes and Satellite, awesome Defense and Attack skills
I wish it were true but I don’t think Clive survived. It could be he told all his journey to Joshua off screen and Joshua retold the story in the end. Clive had to die as being the last biggest source of magic. Otherwise, the blight would have continued as magic still exists and that ending with the two kids and story book would not have happened. I really enjoyed your playthrough Java, you did better than me in the boss fights, granted ff16 is my first RPG since I last played as a kid
Possibly the greatest game I’ve ever played..I’ve played every single FF game and a lot of square RPG’s..this one is by far the most beautiful..not sure why it got so much hate but hot damn I loved this one from beginning to end
I didn’t get to watch all of the playthrough, but I caught up with a good amount through your YT uploads and 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 I’m stunned by how well and fully articulated your thoughts were during the end credits because I needed about a week to process it all. That said, deeply (edit) AGREE with just about everything you said. Gonna need to check out some of your other playthroughs like GOW:R and can’t wait for FF7 Remake down the line.
Wow I'm surprised you disagree so deeply! But that's also what I love about gaming and about story driven games like this - we don't all have the same thoughts and experiences and I think that's beautiful in the end! Glad to hear I was well and beautifully articulating my thoughts, but even with a little time away from it I've rethought a couple of things, not much though mainly just about Clive's fate
@@itsjavachip OMG I can’t believe I said “disagree” haha. It was late at night. I meant to say “deeply agree” 🤦🏻♂️ I really agreed with all of your points. In fact, many of the points you made were things that didn’t come as clearly to me until after I thought about it for at least a couple of days. That’s why I was stunned by how you were able to articulate it in the moment.
@@SubTXT_ OH hahahah honestly given the tone of what you were writing that makes a lot more sense 😂 I was genuinely surprised but in no way offended or upset! That genuinely means the world to me thank you so much 😊
I think Clive lives! We only see his hand turn to stone. Lots of side quests hint at him writing a book when all is over. I think he wrote the story in Joshua’s memory. Too many little hints at the book writing think throughout the game.
I beat majority of the Final Fantasy games and a lot of games in general. This one sits right up there as one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing/beating. I honestly think it is my 2nd favorite Final Fantasy game of all time as 14 is still at the top and 7 is my 3rd favorite. As far as my all time list of games I’ve beaten it’s somewhere in the top 5. It’s a once in a generation type game with the world building and character development at the forefront. Also Clive is one of the best main protagonist ever written. The story was so amazing and I loved the finale. I can see it being somewhat mixed though as maybe some people were disappointed that it didn’t have a happier ending it was still bittersweet though. Clive laying down his life for he friends, family and future generations was beautifully written. I also think the romance between him and Jill was well thought out and made sense and wasn’t forced it felt genuine. The romance between them was dang near perfect probably the best romance out of any game in my opinion. The characters was amazing there honestly wasn’t a character I disliked. Lastly I didn’t mind the more action based combat as it was very flashy and the Eikon battles were epic. If you like story driven games or are a fan of Game of Thrones don’t pass this up. It’s a 9.5 out of 10 for me.
I have a theory when clive heals joshuas chest but they dont show him come to life but instead shows clive dying on the beach but the book was written by Joshua which either means he wrote it prior or hes alive. Does anyone know what's canon?
This has been one of my favourite games I've ever played and what an incredible and emotional end. Thank you so much for joining me on this journey!
Hopefully you are not waiting for too long to play it ;)
You're a delight the way you reflected this game!! What a great lens you provide~
@@danimal519 thank you so much!
@@HKobeni huge huuuuuge thank you!!! 💖
The Phoenix reflection in Joshua’s eye is one of my favorite shots in the series. And also made me bawl my eyes out!
YES! I almost used it in the thumbnail of this episode but I was worried it could be too spoilery
29:30 finally i found it
I will never get tired of watching the finale or peoples' reactions to it 😢
Thanks so much for watching mine!
Same, this has to be some sort of coping mechanism 😭
agreed, I search everyday for more reactions to the finale. Ridiculously epic. Probably the greatest ending I have witnessed in video games.
Same! Watched the finale so many times now and still makes me cry so much
Same😭
I have a feeling Clive was the one who wrote the book. I remember there was a side quest where Harpocrates tells clive that he should write a book about his adventures, and Clive basically says perhaps someday he will. Harpocrates naturally responds that he would like to read it.
“It is my greatest wish that someday you will be able to put down that sword and pick up this quill” (paraphrased)
I kinda love the heartbreaking idea that he took on Joshua’s name in his retirement similar to how he did Cid’s
The finale version of Find the Flame is just...a thousand chef's kisses.
TRULY
it’s called "All as one", IT’S A BANGER
In my opinion, I am glad Dion did not have a voice for the ending fight. He only referred to Clive as Ifrit and had no real connection to him at all. All the characters were specific to Clive.
Oh that's an interesting way to look at it!
@@itsjavachip All this to say, I would love to see the three of them at the end properly having a cup of tea at a table with the rest of the Hideaway.

I never cried to an ending in a video game so much in my life. Ever.
EVER! This is definitely the most emotional a video game has made me
I cried so much when I finished it like someone close to me died much.. if a game made me feel like this a total masterpiece.
I am sobbing 😭😭😭😭😭😭 This game packed such an emotional punch with tons of happy and sad moments in this vicious world
not on the 9% battery too 😭 looks like, you, me, and your phone were all going through it 😂😭
Thank you for playing for finishing this game, as a long time Final fantasy fan, you became one of my favorite reactors, I love how you take your time to analize every single scene, I hope that this game made you play the older ones in the future.
This genuinely means the world to me to hear, thank you so much 💖 I would definitely be interested in playing more of them!
what a finale. so much emotion. so much pain. and VENGEANCE. this game made me cry. it made me pop off. it made me proud. that final punch. that Final Fantasy line. jill crying as the red star Metia died. clive on the beach...man.
Thank you so much for the lovely compliments and I hope you do pop in to the livestreams! Love chatting with you all there 😊
@@RavusNox-z5i there is also a chance that Clive may be still alive, if you paid attention f.e on the romantic side quest with Jill and Clive, Jill said:,, No matter how terrible the night, dawn will always come...that you would always come for me".
Reminds me of that poem by Rumi:
“I said: what about my eyes?
He said: Keep them on the road.
I said: What about my passion?
He said: Keep it burning.
I said: What about my heart?
He said: Tell me what you hold inside it?
I said: Pain and sorrow.
He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
This playthrough has been one of the most memorable playthroughs of any game that I have watched, yet.
As a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, it brings me joy to see someone enjoy this game. I love it more each time I watch or play it more.
This was so lovely to read thank you so much!
I guess I'm sobbing to video games on a Sunday morning. Thanks Java.
I know honestly it's hateful of me
I loved watching your FFXVI playthrough more than I have any other creator - it was such an emotional journey to go through, and I'm thankful you shared it with all of us. I didn't know your channel before this, but I am very excited to watch you play DS1 next. Looking forward to more adventures!
This is so incredibly lovely to hear massive massive thank you!!! Thrilled that you'd be interested in other playthroughs of mine!
Awesome review from you at the end. You covered basically all topics. Clear and concise on what your problems and what you loved about the game.
huge thank you!
For those who say this isn't a Final Fantasy... you literally fight God in space... how final fantasy do you have to be.
He could be an alien not god, its in the lore thing
Plenty of aliens in FF as well haha
2 words....... asura wrath.
What a game! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. Your commentary and genuine emotion throughout the playthrough was great! Loved the post-game analysis, wrapped everything up nicely. It was fun watching you on this journey. Way to go Java, keep up the good work!
Huge huge thank you ☺💖☺
The biggest theory with the ending of the game is that of the baby being born at the end or Medicine girl.
Ooooo honestly super interesting theory and because this is my first FF game I didnt realise some dominants were missing!
I'm thrilled :)
and YES PLZ as much as I think thematically it's strong and impactful that he dies, I do really want him back and I think it makes a lot of sense that he does live
In one of the ff16 interviews Yoshida said:
"I think a good script is something that doesn't give all the answers at the end. It invokes a lot of feelings. It makes people think... it leaves a little bit of doubt there at the end. You're going to have finality in the main beats of the story, and you're going to get those answers. But there's always going to be that door left open a little bit to get people thinking."
For me personally - I find evidence pointing to Clive surviving pretty convincing.
-> Torgal's howl, as opposed to a cry (like he did with Cid)
-> Metia's fading is because magick is now gone from the world. Not Clive fading away.
-> The sun rising: you can see Jill's tears turn into a smile. In her last sidequest, she says "When dawn rises, I know you'll always come back to me"
-> Clive also narrated the story (Beginning & end. It's his voice)
-> The Platinum Trophy is named "The Chronicler"
Etc. etc. But, it's all up to interpretation. I'll choose to believe he's alive :)
Thank you so much for playing through this, absolutely love the ending!
Clive seeing his past memories with Joshua is really sad, man lost his baby brother he swore to protect. One of the best games I have played recently.
😢 man that’s so sad ❤️❤️🙌 thank you so much for playing this game 💯 it’s been so fun
Thank you so much!
Just here @ 22 minutes in, unable to stop crying. Keep Joshua safe at all costs 😭 (will check back in once I’ve reached the end)
How're you feeling? 😢 god all of it is just so sad
@@itsjavachip I don’t know if I have ever been so devastated by the ending of a game, and a shared view of the moon in the sky. Gutted dude 💔

Great playthrough and thoughtout commentary. Ff16 was such a great experience, and glad you resonated with it as well!
Huge thank you for the incredibly lovely comments!
Thank you. And hope to see the channel growing to 10k

I've been binging reactions to this since finishing the game a week ago and I can't stop laughing at Ultima's super salty dying words lmao
at the end it is implied that clive survived and wrote the book called final fantasy under joshua's name. If you remember the final side quest with harpocrates, he gives clive a pen and mentions that maybe one day he can hang up his sword and become a writer, forshadowing that final scene.
That's not foreshadowing I am baffled by people that think this is
An absolute beautiful game in so many ways
Just astoundingly amazing honestly
This is the best take I saw about Clive being dead. You nailed some good points. I hoped for them to be alive but for me they are dead
SOOOOOOBBING thank you so much! What a wild ride these years have been huh?
I did all sidequests!
The ending is EPIC. THIS GAME IS AN ABSOLUTE EPIC. THIS IS ALSO NOT JUST A GAME BUT A FILM. OMG❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
For me this is a work of art because of the way it moves your emotions and it really takes you to that place and that feeling ❤ Love to see your reaction I also cried so hard for so long 😅🫶🏻💖✨
Massive thank you for this! God it’s just such an incredible game
Reasons to believe Clive survived:
-The game begins and ends on Clives narration, as if he is reading a story... one only he would be able to tell.
Huge thanks and welcome on in 😊 such an emotional story
Ha!
This is for peoples peace of mind: Clive survives
Clive does in fact survive at the end of Final Fantasy. Here is my rundown of the last events in the game:
1) Clive beats Ultimate and absorbs his power.
Suuuuuper interesting to know! I had no idea
More DLCs to come guys ! Be ready for more stories !

This was so lovely to read thank you so much!! I know this franchise is so important to so many people, so I'm thrilled to hear messages like yours
Fantastic playthrough, love this game and loved watching you play through it.
1:47:46 Clive and L'ubor took someone Identity. But if Clive could survive that fall, so could Joshua if he was revived.
Huge thank you!!! 😊💖
One of my favorite streamers played this, I don’t even know anything about Final Fantasy, so, when she got to this part, I was very confused.
love the emotion you show for these amazing characters just like me, utterly beautiful game
Thank you so much 🥹
Although I watched several streamers for the big moments your playthrough was the only one I watched all the way through. I have to say whatever brand of makeup you're wearing deserves the MVP
This genuinely brought such a smile to my face thank you 😊 and big true the fact that the mascara stayed is a GODSEND 😂😂😂
Some sacrifice has to be made to give everyone a better tomarrow Clive and party R.I.P.
Huge thank you! And honestly I'm impressed you're playing through the game again so soon, I don't think I could
@@itsjavachip it’s not easy but I’m kinda rushing through thanks to the magic skip button lol… I already made it to waelod.
Very interesting!
I cried harder then any game in my life ❤
Now I crying again
SAME!!!
Agreed! there's definitely lot's of hint that that could be the case
Clives voice begins and ends the entire game. Almost as if he is reading a story.... one only he could tell :)
This game is extremely amazing and emotional and I love every minute of it!
It's SO well done!
@@itsjavachip I'm still playing playing it even now.
This is so incredibly lovely to hear huge huge thank you!!!
I loved the game as well, and i finished it the other day.
I had a similar reaction to FF15's ending, as you did to this one
It’s sad that Torgal was the first to sense he’s not coming back
I see some comments that some people think anyone who thinks they're alive is just trying to cope or deny the ending or its 'power' in killing everyone.
Great job!
Thank you so much for the lovely compliment and I'm thrilled you're looking forward to other playthroughs!
Huge thank you! And I totally know what you mean, that would’ve been amazing
Will there definitely be DLC or expansion??? 👀🤞
I do think the theory that Clive lives is a strong one
its a bitter sweet... beautiful story .. best characters ... gameplay also is not as bad as people said it was..
Oooo I may check it out then!
@@itsjavachipyou totally should. It’s an MMO so you’ll be playing with a lot of other people, but it’s one of the best stories in gaming I’ve ever played (and definitely some of the best villains!). Great playthrough of 16 - though I like to believe Clive lived ^_^
My heart bleeds for Jill/Clive and Dion/Terence. Those star crossed lovers are destroying me. Very interesting analysis and reaction ❤
I agree with this all!
It was emotional for real!
huge thank you for the comment! God I'm still crying about it. It's so incredible
Gav was underrated imo Hope he's in future games 😊
Clive 😭💔
IM ON COPIUM RN 😂
This journey was amazing , awesome and emotional i❤😢🎉🙀🌟❤️🤘😎😃👍😭🌈❤️❤️❤️❤️and sooo sad 😢
I think there is enough to do a pre-quel with Cid. Yoshi-P indicated maybe including more Eikons such as Leviathan and Alexander.
Oh a prequel could be interesting!
Possibly the greatest game I’ve ever played..I’ve played every single FF game and a lot of square RPG’s..this one is by far the most beautiful..not sure why it got so much hate but hot damn I loved this one from beginning to end
This game was amazing, I hope it wins GOTY.
It's genuinely SO SO SO good
One of my all time favorite games/story ever. Enjoyed your play through! On to Dark Souls!
Huge thank you and thrilled you’ll be watching some of my other playthroughs!
I didn’t get to watch all of the playthrough, but I caught up with a good amount through your YT uploads and 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
I’m stunned by how well and fully articulated your thoughts were during the end credits because I needed about a week to process it all.
A masterpiece
Joshua lived/Clive brought him back. He wrote their story.
I think I'm about 2 months late on this - but you got yourself a new subscriber
Never too late for that :) I appreciate it!
There’s no sequel for this. Magic and powers are not existent anymore.
I have a theory when clive heals joshuas chest but they dont show him come to life but instead shows clive dying on the beach but the book was written by Joshua which either means he wrote it prior or hes alive. Does anyone know what's canon?
