at 35 minutes : Thank you for reminding me to follow up on the company that I'm working with to get a tool steel stamp for my blades. I'm sick of staring at my unbranded work.
I have wanted to get night vision goggles forever now, like a 4th gen or better military pair. Heard that the devices made for civilian applications didn't come close. Thank you SO MUCH for doing these reviews, I love your channel!! ❤ Wish I could go camping with you guys!!😊
I love this channel. 30 min review on product I never heard of or would ever buy. But i always feel motivated to grow out me beard and train in the woods after watching. 🍻
The newly released ADNV G14se looks like a much better deal at $1200. It actually has a purpose built 2/3" black silicon sensor instead of just using an off the shelf Sony Starvis.
153k subs! Get it, dude. West side WA resident here. I bit the bullet and bought a "short term" supply of food for my family. Based on current calorie needs, it will sustain us for 35 days. That's not including anything else in my home. The initial cost investment was hard to swallow, but the peace of mind is nice. June 9th is coming up. Be prepared.
I looked at Digital NV intensely when I worked on building a “budget” loaner device for my buddy when we go out after dark. Glad I ended up just waiting for a year and was able to build a cheap Gen 3 PVS7.
Does your helmet quack while walkin. 😂. Also to the safe queens out there. If your scared to drop it then you cant trust it, if your scared to paint it just sell it.
I never understood the fancy cerakoate and all that at least if it's painted you can change it on the fly to match your environment and you can touch it up when needed
Heck no, 5 years, all they need is a circular oled screen, 4k camera, apple m4+ processor or ryzen processor and rechargable battery pack. They need to do away with the recording and every other gimic software most units have and boom perfect package for 1-2k
10 years? 1 year ago I said "give digital night vision 2 years to catch up to analog" and its been improving QUICKLY. If this company plays their cards right, the V2 can be it. Other companies are making great digital night vision thats getting really close to a usable unit.
@@pablo4yu tbh I dont think it will take 5 years for that, and I dont think recording is a gimmick. Theres no downsides to having it as an option at least.
We are extremely confident that the Gen 2 answers the faults mentioned here. PNW will be getting one in hand, amd soon. We're very excited for a followup review
I was pretty pumped on this product and have been following them on twitter for a little while. I've been seeing the review's coming in and have been super bummed. Also I still have one of the m81 chest rigs you guys made at ODGG and it's still one of my favorite chest rigs (35:11 I don't believe ODGG had a logo on this chest rig lol). Keep on keepin on.
There have certainly been some issues on the first run.. but stay tuned! We're repairing all the issues found. The Gen 2 will absolutely be the device everyone hopes it would be. We'll be sending one to PNW for a follow up review
Our response is now posted to our X account. We've had alot of great feedback, all the issues mentioned here are being addressed. We're excited to send PNW the Gen 2, this will answer all the complaints/faults.
I respect the hell out of what hoplite is doing with the DNV-9 and other digital devices. But watching from the sidelines it seems like this launch is more of an open beta, I have no doubt they will make a ton of improvements down the road. It just sucks for the ppl who already bought in to it. I also wonder if ppl are being extra hard on these BECAUSE they are new and home grown. They want to love it but in order to love it they need to beat the shit out of it first - kinda thing.
The issues on the initial launch are unfortunate.. These issues were found and addressed quite early on. We are currently machining new parts, amd injection molding new battery packs. These solve all mechanical issues amd will be provided to existing customers for free. The Gen 2 will have all these mechanical solutions from the get go, along with massive performance improvements. We are looking forward to a follow up review
Hi @HopliteIndustries : And exactly what massive improvements are these that you will be offering with gen 2 compared to gen 1? You're referring to the fact that all the hardware issues mentioned, such as the battery pack, helmet mount and so on, will be fixed in the Gen 2 version. But what massive improvements are coming to the Gen 2? If I look at the camera, sensor and latency data on your website and compare Gen 1 with Gen 2, they both have exactly the same specs? Could you tell us a bit more about it and please adjust the data on your website, because as mentioned; specs of Gen1 and Gen2 are the same! I am sure more people (me incl.) will be trying and purchasing the Gen 2 device if the specs/Data shows that there is really a massive improvement compared to Gen 1. Thank you very much. BR. LM
For focus on NV, you can take a dust/day cap and cut out a small aperture. This will give you a SIGNIFICANTLY wider depth of focus. The tradeoff is that it restricts the light, so this can't be used in low-light. The smaller the aperture, the better the effect seems to be (and of course, likewise, the less light). The best balance seems to be about the size of a 5.56 casing's neck.
@@PNWGUERRILLA It... does though. I do it. I have to take it off indoors, low illum, etc. but on bright nights where I can take advantage of it, I do so, and not missing things in the distance because I'm focused up close is an advantage. And when the caps are under 10 bucks, it's not worth it *not* to have an extra cap on you.
Analog night vision can 100% be damaged while turned off,if you pointed directly at the sun. It’ll take a while, but it will burn a tube. It doesn’t need to be powered on. photons are still entering the lens and going into the tube.
I know short battery life is not ideal but it’s hard to fault them on that. When you get into high resolution displays and cameras with low light capabilities they end up sucking power. I can’t say the PVS-69s are much better but I do recommend rechargeable CR123s and I’ve also made battery packs that are 18650 capable to bring the run time up
I value the opinion of the far cry 5 guerilla gorilla far more than any guy who's only qualifications are "I signed a gov contract and walked around on the desert for 2 years"
Just an FYI to anyone interested in their housing design. They completely ripped off the wilcox pvs14 bridge design, and somehow managed to completely fail in copying it. Because the wilcox bridge has always been decently solid as far as the tension of the articulation. Not as good as a dedicated bino housing, but pretty good. The fact that theirs just flops around is hilarious
When it comes to digital, knowing what sensor/cmos is important. Hoplite uses starvis which sucks. Knowing that by itself should be enough information.
So with that chest gear, can you still wear a decked out assault or ruck pack with that on? I never really really looked into it. I know it's unrelated to NVGs...
No. I tried this right after this review. As you can see in the first half the back of the rig was empty and the second half it was full. The type 83 was designed as a stand alone and it is ABSOLUTELY ASS with a ruck sack on.
@@PNWGUERRILLA That's what I thought, I was very very apprehensive in getting it, if anything it just makes me appreciate the LBV sustainment kit I got from you more.
Curious on the thought that not very many people will be using nods in shtf. Would you rather be prepared for others out there using nv instead of running around with a red light?
If you do not have night vision on you every night (which is more than likely) you are going to use red light alternatively. You ever tried to do ANY admin tasks under NVG? It’s not easy. It’s not easy or fun.
Thanks for the review dude. Lover your stuff! One thing you may wanna consider is the visibility of red light by drone, especially under thermal. The fantastic resource that is CivDiv recently was talking about the dangers of red light on the battlefield. Apparently they killed some ruskies recently, spotted via drone by their red lights. He says in some cases red shows up even brighter on thermal. Just something to consider and maybe test one day. Keep it up dude and happy birthday!
I understand this. And on the battlefield I get it. But you have to be able to see at night somehow. Everyone who says don’t use illuminators or red light have never tried to use ONLY night vision with no moon light in the woods. It’s just not happening. You can’t do anything because you can’t see.
semi-flexing a decade old AA degree is kinda crazy, I'd just not mention it and say you do research and are knowledgeable because that shit is worthless
Yes it's a combination of poor material choice, and also spring length. We're currently machining a new version of this part out of stainless steel. These new parts along with new springs will be provided to all customers for free, and implemented into the Gen 2
