Mark, think you can throw us some ideas over at deterrence dispensed on how to modify the fgc9 bolt face for an extractor? Without buying any gun parts , the idea of the fgc9 anyway.
I don't own a Thrunite but they seem to have a good reputation. (Most of mine are Fenix brand.) A modern LED light is very interesting from a technical view but also very useful, far superior to what we used just a few years ago. The LEDs themselves evolved to be much more powerful than what we had a few years ago, and the batteries and electronics also evolve. That one claims 2500 Lumens which is really bright for normal use, in reality most people would be fine with 300 to 500 Lumens. So overall seems like a reasonable product to use to support your channel.
Any concerns about hydrogen embrittlement of locking lugs after parkerizing? All it takes to alleviate the risk is baking any hardened parts after they have been acid etched, for about 3 hours at 250 - 300 degrees C. As you know, parkerizing uses phosphoric acid. See MIL-DTL-16232H
Is it just me or do those 50 Cal bolts look like a giant dog whistle? If blown that whistle would probably summon a T-Rex. BTW I love the flash light whoring/product endorsement! Keep doing what you’re doing. I love the content thank you so much for posting.
Is it double-sprung and is the board well-potted? That's what I want to know... also, will it fit a 1" diameter M-Lok mount? I'm doubting it at these price points, but I'm not yet at the point where I can justify $150 for a weapon mounted light, especially when those lower-end ones are still made in China, even if they come from a big American name. You're still paying for American engineers, I guess, but moreso for American marketers... At least with ThruNite you're paying for Mark Serbu!

wow, that Engrish gap could have ended up with you hawking fleshlights and not flashlights, although I'm guessing one has higher QC standards than the the other.
Actually, the unintentionally heat treated weld area is harder than the bolts will be when they come back from heat treat. These bolts are through-hardened, so they're not crazy hard like they'd be if they were case hardened. They'd actually machine beautifully after heat treat but the main reason for doing it before is to make sure the weld penetration was good. If there's an issue at that point it's easy to fix and re-machine.
Get you a student edition of Fusion360. It's free. Start drawing and modeling. Get you a small mill and lathe and go to town on it all. Or you could get an entry level machining job in your area. Won't pay shit and will be a load a part push a button job, but that's where most all of us started.

Why not heat treat before turning the bolt down? Too hard for standard tools?
What if the heat from machining anneals it right back?
Hardened steel doesn't turn as nicely as soft steel. Plus carbide and other fancy tooling can get pretty expensive pretty fast

@@zaitcev0 Then your machining process would be really, really fucked up! :-D It's fairly impossible to anneal steel just by turning it on a lathe.
@@johnscheib9077 Not necessarily true. Alloy Steel in the mid Rockwell 30s to 40s machines beautifully. And all we use is "fancy" carbide tooling.
