I discovered her in the early 1960s, thanks to her tremendous single 'What's A Matter Baby' - still one of the best, most powerful records of that whole decade. Such a voice!
I love that record I wore that 45 out I used to work that record!I love part just before it fades where says REMEMBER REMEMBER HOW YOU HURT ME CHILD OH BUT I'M PAYING BACK RIGHT NOW!!!
I was shocked when I saw her on Bandstand and found out she was white she was the most soulful white female singer of the sixties Janis Joplin sounded like a white girl trying to black Timi Yuro sounded like a heavy set black woman in her thirties I'm black and I can usually tell if a singer is white regardless of how black they try to sound but this Italian girl fooled me
Spectacular. What a voice. Elvis was once asked what female singer impressed him -- he said Timi Yuro. What a pairing they would have been on stage. This performance of "You'll Never Walk Alone," is stunning. If I worked for PBS I would try to acquire the rights to that 1982 Dutch TV show & show it to America. What young female, American Idol contender wouldn't be stirred by Timi's vocals & perfromance? No vocal gymnastics here. Just power, conviction and soul of the highest order.
Soul and passion in her singing. I know we all miss her. A fallen artist who died before her time. Thank God for recordings --- her voice will live for posterity to enjoy. RIP, Timi.
I first heard Timi's wonderful voice over 50 years ago while living in Japan and have admired her ever since. That rare contralto voice was so powerful. Absolutely wonderful. Singers like Timi don't come along very often. I am thankful to have been entertained by Timi all these years. The world lost a real jewel with her early passing. RIP my dear Timi.
Happy Happy Birthday Timi Yuro! You were one of the greatest singers of the 20th Century. I didn't know about you until I saw the film LEGEND. I have been catching up ever since. I am so glad there are records/CDs in this world still.
I've heard this song sang by numerous singers but Timi gives this song something special as she did with every song she sang. The power and the heart she puts into her songs makes her the special talent that she ways. I thank TH-cam for sharing with us the remarkable talent Timi Yuro had, have loved her music for over 50 years and still love to hear her sing and watch the video's of her live in concert.
I'm 74, and a few songs that stop me dead in my tracks (not literally...lol!): "Unchained Melody"--Bobby Hatfield; "Danny Boy"--Irish tenor John McDermott; and almost anything by Timi Yuro.
I saw Timi in person at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go, Atlanta, Georgia, 1968 and I knew then she was one of the best female singers of all time. When she sang Hurt, it was like nothing the people had ever heard before....her voice reached out and touched every soul in that place....some girls had tears on their cheeks.men were misty eyed, me included, the passion in her voice, the strength of her voice..the range, if you had ever been hurt, well, listening to her sing, you knew she had been hurt too, you could feel it...so powerful.....I never forgot that night, or her....I expected that she would be very famous the world over but it never happened...and I wondered then and now....
Not sure, but after reading another comment on another post, it might've been because she wanted to be openly gay, but that just wasn't done in the '60's. Our loss.
A powerful, soulful rendition of one of my all-time favorite songs. Very glad to see this performance posted. No comparison to the "talent" that is being "over-produced" today. Young female artists should listen to some of Ms. Yuro's tracks to know the true meaning of how to sing a song.
Why so many Dutch TV shows? We loved Timi right here in USA! She moved to Las Vegas somewhere in the 1990s. I found her here (in Vegas) in 2002 and the news said she had throat cancer. She had her 'voice box' removed in 2002. Sadly, She died in 2004 in Las Vegas, NV. What a great loss!
Geweldige sterke vrouw, fantastisch nummer . Ik hoop dat ze niet word vergeten, eigenlijk dat ze word her ontdekt door de jongere garde . Levens liederen met passie gezongen door eigen ervaring. Grote klasse.
Everything you said John is right on! Timi was a remarkable singer/talent that never gained the Super Star status she should have. Most people don't know, but anytime Timi preformed in Las Vegas Elvis would buy out the whole front row and fly in with friends just to watch and listen to the great talent that was Timi Yuro. She was one of a kind and we can still enjoy her remarkable talent thanks to TH-cam.
WOW, thanks for that. i wonder if jerry ever heard her do this. she can sing anything and more young people should hear her so they could appreciate why we still enjoy our music so much from the 50s & 60s. what a voice!!
When I hear Timi sing anything like this, my heart breaks that 1984 was her last televised performance -- 20 years before her passing. That should have never happened to a woman like this. She was magnificent and no one today even comes close. You were one of a kind, Timi, and you are still the greatest. And missed.
Wow....goosebumps! This is the first time I heard this version....pure emotion! Timi Yuro should have been labled one of the best female singers ever a long time ago already! She could have changed the actual lyrics into just "lalala" and the sound of her voice would still give me goosebumps!
One of the singularly most gifted pop/soul singers ever. Timi Yuro has a powerful, perfectly controlled & very expressive voice like no other since. And, it's right from the heart.
Amazing performance by a REAL talent. One of the best renditions of this since the version by the Righteous Brothers. She was a gift to all music lovers.
Ich entdeckte diese traumhafte Stimme leider erst vor 2 Jahren. Jetzt glaube ich wieder daran das es einen Himmel gibt. Das sind die Geschenke die uns der liebe Gott auf die Erde schickt. Danke TIMI YURO. Danke!
Timi... the hidden talent of the 70's... Yes she was known, but with powerful agents she would be bigger than 90% of the Female stars of the time... Thank God we were blessed with her voice...truly awesome.. we all HURT now thats she's gone...
Welch ein Traum , welche Bereicherung für uns alle ! Deine göttliche Stimme wird immer in uns Leben. Herzlichen Dank, mögen die Engerl im Himmel für immer für dich singen. Danke Herbert Turczyn. 💥🤗💥
I wish l could sing like Timi Yuro. Her voice was so chesty, thick, soulful, deep and powerful. Her voice teachers trained her voice so well. I am a Contralto myself and it's hard finding others to look to. Liza Minnelli was amazing in her prime, pushing her chest voice like this as well. All contraltos are built with powerful chest notes in the fourth octave, it's what makes them distinct from other female singers
Timi's voice projects like nothing I ever heard in pop music. Forget today's divas...no comparison. This woman sings with no effort, with a professional ease and she's nuclear powered -- and smooth. What makes her special is that she doesn't showboat. She knows exactly what words require the power. This is an overwhelming performance -- she even has the instinct to hold her microphone away from her lips at an ideal position to capture the notes clearly. I love her. Always have. Elvis did. Willie Nelson did (he recorded a duet with her). And the appreciation for her songs was primarily in Europe. America is so naive. Timi had many great songs, but she is known only for "Hurt," in the United States. (Correct me if I am wrong). RIP Timi.
A poem for Timi Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I'm not asleep. I am the thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on the snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quite birds in circle flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I'm not there, I did not die.
le2256. This is so beautiful hearing it from the talented Ms. Timi Yuro. A wonderful song for the people who lost their children, teachers, brothers, sisters and family members in Connecticut this sad holiday season. Thank you for sharing for the tears are coming out of my eyes. Happy holidays to you. Iris Rosenberg-Cooper of VA
I remember this song very well I was 16yrs young she had a beautiful voice I have just gone 66 yrs young in October 23 oh what a voice
Simply beautiful...inside and out...
100 per cent passion
One of the most incredible female voices ever..
I discovered her in the early 1960s, thanks to her tremendous single 'What's A Matter Baby' - still one of the best, most powerful records of that whole decade. Such a voice!

CLARIFICATION Janis sounded like a white girl trying to sound black
Also discovered her in the sixties.
My favourite of all time..

Almost all old songs by Timi Yuro is very greatest until forever &ever I love it so much..
Spectacular. What a voice. Elvis was once asked what female singer impressed him -- he said Timi Yuro. What a pairing they would have been on stage. She just has the most magical voice... sings with so much passion I get tears in my eyes ... I just love this, thanks for sharing 🙏🏼
Timi Yuro delivered the most emotionally powerful rendition of this magnificent song....Bravo ! Thanks for sharing, L.E.
Sometimes it’s better to sing the song simply.
Timi Yuro was truly one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. Amazing range and songs sung with much feeling.
Unforgettable voice never to be forgotten
Timi Yuro and Janis Joplin ... The two greatest white female singers ever
Amazing👍💖
I first heard Timi's wonderful voice over 50 years ago while living in Japan and have admired her ever since. That rare contralto voice was so powerful. Absolutely wonderful. Singers like Timi don't come along very often. I am thankful to have been entertained by Timi all these years. The world lost a real jewel with her early passing. RIP my dear Timi.
Amazing timing and phrasing making the song her own
Happy Happy Birthday Timi Yuro! You were one of the greatest singers of the 20th Century. I didn't know about you until I saw the film LEGEND. I have been catching up ever since. I am so glad there are records/CDs in this world still.

I'm 74, and a few songs that stop me dead in my tracks (not literally...lol!): "Unchained Melody"--Bobby Hatfield; "Danny Boy"--Irish tenor John McDermott; and almost anything by Timi Yuro.
What a fantastic job on a great song. She sings with so much passion!!!!!!!!!!!
Timi's voice and the emotion she injects into every song is truly felt. She deserved to me so much more famous.
I saw Timi in person at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go, Atlanta, Georgia, 1968 and I knew then she was one of the best female singers of all time. I can understand that buddy.
Justice is not of this world !

Not sure, but after reading another comment on another post, it might've been because she wanted to be openly gay, but that just wasn't done in the '60's. Our loss.
