J.M.Jarre Music, and specially his "Oxygen, Equinoxe, Chants Magnetiques" are simply perfect, and the Universality of his music made him reach people all over the planet. He changed me as a kid, really. My mind is open to the Universe. Thank you Monsieur Jarre.

indeed! this was revolution in sampling. except of DIVA i love them, they are truly divine. i still wonder, how they started to make it such a jungle of sounds, not ending up in just boring tech snippets. they are out of space and time, so creative and perfectly arranged. never heard something similar...

What a great interview. On Electronic Music Forums, we talk about a lot of the subjects that are brought up by JMJ. This interview is full of wonderful ideas. Anyone in this field should come away with inspiration and ideas to help them to move forward in a more focused direction. Thank you both for this.

Yes, in 1976 Oxygene was futuristic but importantly it was melodic too. And there were space and sci-fi themes running through disco records, very tongue in cheek and fun, tunes such as Space's Magic Fly and Cerrone's Supernature and Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds. Everybody had a copy of Oxygene and Equinoxe, both viewed as that era's cutting edge pop music, rather than through the musical ideology behind the albums. They're still both very listenable albums.

Let's say something very positive here, after some rather 'sour' reactions: what a great, great, higher level interview this is! Mr. Tom Power, you are a top-interviewer...loads and loads of colleagues could take 'you' as their example... That said, I can only hope, this particular outstanding interview will be seen by many, caus Tom got more out of Jean Michel, than who-ever. Again: great compliments and 'q on cbc', thank you very much indeed, for uploading this.

Absolutely. This is by far one of the best interviews with JMJ that I've seen in quite a long time. It's refreshing to hear an intelligent series of evolving questions that prompt a natural flowing conversation instead of the usual stilted formula that so many other interviewers adopt. I think its apparent that Jean Michel appreciates the more intellectual approach, as he seemed so much more engaged than usual. Good work, sir!

Same thing happened with Mike Oldfield and Tubular Bells few years earlier. Glam rock bands and bubblegum all over the place and then boom out of nowhere a large composition with two album side long pieces hits it.
Oldfield also has done sequels to Tubular Bells taking different angles on the theme.

Electronic Music is a different kind of creature. It is not acoustically created and electronically enhanced and also doesn't quite follow laws of physics or the traditional composition craft. It uses entirely different methods and instruments. And the WAY it can sound is almost like a chameleon or like a caterpillar turns into a butterfly through metamorphosis. It does not require a special type of environment to properly listen and enjoy. So it becomes a very emancipated & independent experience. Electronic Music, in my humble opinion, is the only way for mankind to really speak a whole new powerful dialect in the universal language that is Music.
