It's taken me a while to understand why I had so much trouble with fireball execution, an so little difficulty with uppercut execution. In about ten seconds you explained why, and what to do about it. Thanks so much, see you in SFV!
I think that one major step after becoming proficient at purely landing the combo would be to put the dummy on random block. That way you would be able to practice realistic reactions to if your opponent was aware of what you were up to. If the dummy blocks you FADC back, if it doesn't then you continue on reaction.
This is a great tutorial. Even though I don't play on a stick (getting a good one is impossible in Poland) it showed me how FADC actually works. Now I know what to do and how to practice that. Good stuff, Gootecks!
im struggling when it comes to put everything together. I often find myelf doing EX uppercut at the end instead of ultra. I guess with practice its gonna come
Just got a stick and I'm struggling on doing double qcf really quick, like when cancelling a light/medium shory into a shinkuu hadoken. should I stick to a rotation motion or a zig zag motion?
Thanks Gootecks ive been hammering the training room for ever trying to master this (Started playing last year) and only been able to do it on command after watching this video. Love excellent adventures and everything else on the channel thanks dude keep it up :)
Great idea to put the dummy on all block for not going in full animation. I use practice the same way of decomposing the move but not that much. I will try it tomorrow and tell you about. If there are any Cammy players, I can tell that she has to backdash (ok almost everybody knows about that). So no need of a forward input after the DP motion and the last back input of the backdash can be used as 1st input of the Ultra by doing half a circle rather than a quarter circle.
Thanks for the video gootecks! Didn't know about the forward Focus forward to get the FADC. Usually I manually focus then dash for FADC. Anyways, these vids are super helpful and I look forward to seeing more.
A tutorial on some of the harder stuff like option selects would be very helpful. Specifically, how/when to input them, and the different ways to use use them, along with option selects for charge characters.
Cross Counter TV Tapping forward twice after FA, I kept missing the U1 but one forward with FA then 1 forward after. Doubled my execution rate quite quickly.
This tutorial is helping me, who doesn't use a fight stick. I decided to grind in training mode until me execution gets good, thanks for the tutorial. =D
thanks gootecks! turns out I've been doing the fadc all wrong; didn't know I could hit the first fwd at the same time as the FA. Also, for a DP, I usually do 'df down df+p'. should I break that habit and do more of a Z line? thanks!
Thanks for those tutorials :) Here an idea for another tutorial , something I always struglle with : piano inputs and combo with "controlled" piano inputs. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this Cross Counter TV (Gootecks specifically :P) Without these two videos I wouldn't have been able to switch to stick as fast as I did. I got my second stick ever about 3 weeks ago and have already GREATLY surpassed my skill on pad for fighting games. And I've played pad since SNES. Can't thank you enough for the great content. If I hadn't found your videos I probably would have given up on it again like I did the last time, just because I had no fucking clue what I was doing (and the piece of shit broke incredibly fast, this time I bought a much, much better stick) Happy as hell to know that I'll be ready for SFV once it comes out :).
I had trouble with charge characters on stick. An example was doing heel kick into scarlet terror.. missed it every time. Doesn't have anything to do with the octagonal and square gate, does it?
2 weeks and I still can't hit the corners half the time. I have to really hold it down or else i get a forward and hadoken instead of srk. nothing works. :(
Could you make a tutorial on parrying? Know you are more invested in sf4 but even that basics are important for some people and you are really good as a teacher. Timing is everything in sf
Just because Ryan Gutierrez rocked as a sf3 fighter,(For me the phrase .."I´m gonna Fuck em up".(Even if it was for a sf4 tournament).. is the best line any action hero has ever said...) and some games go beyond their mass appeal. Some fighters are for a few selected who enjoy the meaning of 1 vs 1. The Parry mechanic is not only for showoffs but for people who enjoy the thinking that can be spent in a match. The strategy, the anticipation to a move. Sf4 is great, but still....Third strike has something I cant let go. Being good a that game is something important for more people tan what you think of. Usefull?...I Think more in the value of it ...for what it is...something great.
8:40 You taught me how to finally walk up and Hadoken without accidentally hitting DP. But I still can't DP with full meter b/c I mash DP and get the Super instead.
I find that the best way to do dp without using super with full meter is to use the shoryuken shortcut instead. In case you didnt know the input for shoryuken shortcut is df,d,df. If you get super while trying to do the shortcut it just means you did it too fast and got a forward input in there somewhere. Hope this helps.
Isaias Lpz Maybe that'll be in the charge characters one, but in the meantime, you want to hold downback, roll the stick to upback + punch for the headbutt, hold it there, then f, b, f+PPP when you land from the headbutt
I was thinking can you make videos on other Capcom games like HD Remix and Capcom Vs. SNK 2 as I'm implying you're tutorial on other games. Great video on control execution as I feel that I'm getting nowhere on getting better at this game I wonder when is the next tournament event near the Washington DC Metropolitan Gootecks I really need your help with using a Fightstick.
very helpful gootecks. Also, if in case you read this, could you make a video or give tips on how to get past the scrubby ness of ranked? I do almost exponentially better against the 2500+PP players than I do against the sub 2500 PP players. Players mashing jab, then going into Focus Attacks DansGame
I'm the same way. I feel like it's a matter of predicability, where scrubs that go nuts can be unpredictable and take advantage of lag. But if someone is good and you have a decent eye for the game, you can understand where they're coming from, even if you can't always stop it.
I am not that much of a SF player, but I do play KI and when I was starting off all I faced were mashers and nooby stuff. So I went to training mode and use the record feature to pretty much replicate what they were doing and spent the time to figure out how to beat it. Once I got the grasp I started playing online again and it took a bit to put into an actual game but after a while those type of players became super easy to beat and it improved my game immensely. All it takes is practice.
Tarantula417 I think generally it comes down to defense and staying at a range far enough where you can react to these things even under a bit of lag. Even I lose to guys like these unless I'm playing Rose and I think it just comes down to not respecting their space enough and having proper punishes ready for them when they do something reckless.
"scrubby" players can expose whether or not a good player can truly adapt. And it's not just online. I've seen plenty of good players lose to nonsense in offline casuals too. In ranked online, you basically have one round to learn the opponent before you have to make something happen. Make alot of mental notes the first round. What do they do if you uncomfortably close right within a jump away? How do they react when you fake meaty on their wakeup? How do they build and spend their meter? Do they abuse focus? Do they fight for space or concede and take the corner? How do they play in the corner? Things like that. If you can analyze quickly and have responses to their answers, those sub 2500pp players will have issues with you. You have 99 seconds to learn. Use them wisely
Thanks Gooey, I didn't know you could do the first forward input at the same time as the focus, that helps a lot. I play Chun though so this isn't incredibly helpful haha. Could you do one on pianoing/plinking?
I can't connect 2 PS3 Fightsticks for USF4 on PS4. It doesnt work for me. 1P works fine. but when I connect the stick for the 2P... - the 1st controller moves the 1P - the 2nd controller moves the 2P - the 1st stick doesn't work - the 2nd stick moves the 1P. In Mkx it works just fine because both controllers connect to each of the ps3 fightsticks. In usf4 however, when I sync in the 2 fightsticks with the 2 controllers player 2 will always sync to player 1. I tried many things to fix this but its still not working. Please help and thanks in advance.
Maybe Mike is willing to release a vid on how to do hands. Doing hands from a punch button is actuall pretty easy, or in Chun her case, from a kick button. Just plink initial hands input and drum the correct order of buttons and ending the strength of the different punch buttons you want. The problems start when trying to do hands from a kick attack like Decapre cr.mk and Gen st.mk or legs with chun from cr.hp. I slide, it is the easiest way and no change of getting accidental EX hands or EX legs.
From excellent adventures Mike: To do hands take your index finger and slide it from left to right Gootecks: Are you fucking kidding me Mike!? Its a pretty decent technique. You just have to practice it a lot. I play on controller though so that doesn't work for me. You can do the whole triplet tap thing too. Just whatever feels more comfortable.
Thanks gootecks maybe these tutorials will help me get past 600pp finally. Could you possibly do a video on what situations to use ryus normals / footsies or just how to keep pressure on after a knock down. Or scratch that how about a general defense video.
Mike Footsies is easier to show I guess. Defense is kinda tough to practice when it's you by yourself generally. But I'll marinate on it and see what come up with
Cross Counter TV Thanks for all the work you guys at CC do. I know you wont put yourself on blast like that, but how the hell do you guys still do combos smokin on that Cali kush. My execution goes down the drain when smokin this shitty mid west poop Kappa.
god fucking damnit!!! i was trying to FADC the SP DP all day yesterday without results and i was thinking i was missing the time-frame. FUCK MY LIFE!!!
Not at all. Regular controllers can be difficult, but some pro players use fightpads. I learned on a pad and just went to stick. I think my execution has improved using a stick, but there's nothing wrong using pad or a controller.
sgplayer18 Thanks dude this is a lot harder to learn than Injustice and MK and even UMvC3 I might stick with this game for a while to see how good i can get. Do you think by learning the combos in the trials would be a good start for me to get better?
+taraishot100 no problem man. I have honestly not done much with the trials. Theres some really good tutorials here on youtube. But a buddy of mine, who's a lot better than me, keeps telling me to start trials if I want to play with new characters.

+Mechacelzi You can get a fight stick for the PS1, or PS2 or 3 that is backwards-compatible. You could also make a fight stick out of a PS pad. You could also use emulation on a PC with a USB fight stick.

Ralphenstein i was trying to play ps1 games on ps3 with madcatz fightsticks though
Oh my god! I never knew to fa+forward and then forward, I was just double tapping forward for the dash cancel. This changes everything.
WaiWai your a huge nerd
obviously
I just learned this too! changes everything! so much easier to execute. fml.
+WaiWai ...I just learned this now... ahaha.
D86 RECORDS stfu
once I saw your reflection on the fight stick i couldn't stop looking at it
Thanks gootecks for taking the time to make this video!
This is how we make fight games more accessible to new players, gootecks doing more to get noobs into fgc than devs.
good stuff! learning to apply these principles to Killer Instinct. the "always block" option is a very smart time saver. thank you.
Viktor Enns I'm doing the same thing lol
Brian Whitaker and how is it going? are you playing on pc?
It's taken me a while to understand why I had so much trouble with fireball execution, an so little difficulty with uppercut execution. In about ten seconds you explained why, and what to do about it. Thanks so much, see you in SFV!
15:06 "You want to try it on the other side to make sure you're able to hit it both ways." That's what she said.
I just tried this today 9 years later. It is indeed something to keep practicing at I landed two with an ultra and one with super.
Based Crunchyroll sponsoring these videos. I hope these fight stick tutorials bring in new players.
Thanks for the video, gootecks.

I never thought of setting a button to focus. I'm pretty sure that would help my game play a bunch
This was great, gootecks. You really care about us scrubs. Thanks dude!
Not alot of people know that you can buffer a QCF ultra when you dash if you do the input cleanly and fast enough.
Thanks Gootecks ive been hammering the training room for ever trying to master this (Started playing last year) and only been able to do it on command after watching this video. Love excellent adventures and everything else on the channel thanks dude keep it up :)

wouldd like u to do this tutorial with fightstick cam more, beginner fightstick player here ;)
Dunno if you cover it in the video, but the EX uppercut is because of negative edge.
Thanks for this Gootecks. While not a Ryu player, a lot of characters can do a very similar thing!
Thanks gootecks! Cody player here. This really helped me figuring out why I couldn't get my H. Ruffian cancel to U1 off.
***** Glad to hear it! What were you doing wrong?
Cross Counter TV Tapping forward twice after FA, I kept missing the U1 but one forward with FA then 1 forward after. Doubled my execution rate quite quickly.

thanks for another fightstick tutorial bro, i dont play sf4, but i like watching vids and these vids on fight stick stuff
Love this series. Keep doing God's work bro
These videos are so good I can't even words
Thanks gootecks! Great stuff.
Thank you so much for these execution tutorials! Awesome stuff
Thanks for those tutorials :) Here an idea for another tutorial , something I always struglle with : piano inputs and combo with "controlled" piano inputs. Thanks.
Krillin was kicking ass in the tournament of power!
Thank you so much for this Cross Counter TV (Gootecks specifically :P) Without these two videos I wouldn't have been able to switch to stick as fast as I did. Thank you gootecks for this. Been playing since vanilla and still cant do this.
I actually learned about the memory thing. Didnt know that was possible. Thanks Goots!
8:20 Oh wow, I was wondering why I would get Ky Kiske's uppercut in Xrd when I wanted his fireball instead. Thanks for the help gootecks.
FrozenCore84 this was a eureka moment for me
Good ish Gootecks, There are ppl out there like me who cant fadc all the time!
Lol I'm garbage at the fadc stuff for the most part myself
I'm learning shit I should've learned in 2012.
I had trouble with charge characters on stick. An example was doing heel kick into scarlet terror.. missed it every time. Doesn't have anything to do with the octagonal and square gate, does it?
Great video :)... Im still trying to F.A just with my middle finger. Iv got in a habit using pointing finger as well.
Thanks you so much Gootecks... Your videos are indeed helpful. Keep up the good work.
I struggle a lot with simple combos.
Can't get them to link (expecially with Dudley).
Sensei Gootecks, could you please teach us please?
Which arcade stick do you think is the best? Eightarc fusion, Mad Catz, Qanba? Right now I am using a eightarc fusion.
That Shoruken had me stumped but you helped me Gooboi
i think it's more proper to have beginners practice with focus being held through the dash rather than tapping it.
Some great training tips. Much thanks!
2 weeks and I still can't hit the corners half the time. I have to really hold it down or else i get a forward and hadoken instead of srk. nothing works. :(
This was freaking amazing thank you so much for this!
Could you make a tutorial on parrying? Know you are more invested in sf4 but even that basics are important for some people and you are really good as a teacher. Timing is everything in sf

Are you using a octagon on the stick man? I need some help!!
dude. You are so pro. Thanks for the advice. Big fan here.
I managed to do it 3 times but its not consistent at all I gotta keep practicing thanx for the help!
thanks for this gootecks I'm training with oni and hopefully you will do more tutorials in the future
Hello, fellow Oni player.
Thank you so much for these Gootecks! Helping us go from scrubs to.. Scrubs that can FADC shoyrus into ultra. XD
From Scrubs to Winners Clubs!
Do more of these execution videos please gootecks lol
Thanks for this great tutorial dude. I still struggle to do this.

Show how to ultra after head but with Balrog please...
Isaias Lpz Maybe that'll be in the charge characters one, but in the meantime, you want to hold downback, roll the stick to upback + punch for the headbutt, hold it there, then f, b, f+PPP when you land from the headbutt

Aren't you the pog guy
once you're able to do this you should focus on trying to make the hadoken connect as early as possible: if it hits below their butt youre good
It would be nice if you add the combo execution on a real fight, maybe on slow motion. Nice video
Does fa+forward then forward apply similarly to v trigger in sfv?
very helpful gootecks. Also, if in case you read this, could you make a video or give tips on how to get past the scrubby ness of ranked? I do almost exponentially better against the 2500+PP players than I do against the sub 2500 PP players. Players mashing jab, then going into Focus Attacks DansGame

Thanks Gooey, I didn't know you could do the first forward input at the same time as the focus, that helps a lot. I play Chun though so this isn't incredibly helpful haha. Could you do one on pianoing/plinking?
TelilaX2 Glad to helps! Yes, which aspect are you having trouble with?
The whole concept I have trouble understanding, and I haven't really succeeded in pulling it off. Specifically, Chun-li's loop
Cross Counter TV If you go over this, could you go over Ken's kara dp? I have trouble getting it. Thanks.
I can't connect 2 PS3 Fightsticks for USF4 on PS4. It doesnt work for me. 1P works fine. but when I connect the stick for the 2P...
- the 1st controller moves the 1P
- the 2nd controller moves the 2P
- the 1st stick doesn't work

Please help and thanks in advance.
So the reason for the focus is to cancel the shoryu? I had a hard time understanding why we need to do a focus, but I think that's it no?
The focus is there to cancel yout of the rest of the shoryuken.
Oh my bad I thought he was talking about fadc into Ryu's second ultra after doing a combo.
Thank you for your videos. Keep up the good work !
any tips for decapre anti air Ultra 2?
dose this apply to cammy as well???
Good stuff, Goo.
Tell Justin Wong we want him back in Nick's Basement
Hands... 25 years and I still can't do hands.
Learn to play the piano or just start sliding your finger against the buttons :D
I lold really hard at the idea of taking up piano and learning it jus for the sake of SF hahahaha
Maybe Mike is willing to release a vid on how to do hands. Doing hands from a punch button is actuall pretty easy, or in Chun her case, from a kick button. Just plink initial hands input and drum the correct order of buttons and ending the strength of the different punch buttons you want. From excellent adventures
Mike: To do hands take your index finger and slide it from left to right
Gootecks: Are you fucking kidding me Mike!?
Its a pretty decent technique. You just have to practice it a lot. I play on controller though so that doesn't work for me. You can do the whole triplet tap thing too. Just whatever feels more comfortable.
AeolusMN if that's the case, couldn't you plink the low mk with mp and lp? plnik all three and then just tap mp to lp for light hands?
Please post some tips for street fighter 5
thank you. I truly appreciate this
i was always under the impression that an uppercut motion was forward, down forward, down, down forward... :(
that is a short cut if you remove the forward. down forward to down to down forward is an srk just like forward to down to quarter circle forward
But I'll marinate on it and see what come up with
I believe there's a video that gootecks did with Ace(?) A Canadian player. They got very detailed about Ryu.
Timothy Cummings II you're thinking of Air. We did a long tutorial with him called the cc guide to Ryu
Cross Counter TV yeah that's the one I'm thinking about. But yeah Mike you should check out those videos.
Cross Counter TV
Thanks for all the work you guys at CC do. I know you wont put yourself on blast like that, but how the hell do you guys still do combos smokin on that Cali kush. My execution goes down the drain when smokin this shitty mid west poop Kappa.
yeaa buffering the movements is what i need help on
Pro'frickin'fessor Gootecks!
Thanks really helpful need more ryu basic combo that you guys do in matchs. Can I do this with ps3 controller
yes you can
Great vid. I got better at combo thanks to this video :-)
Will this video not load for anyone else?
Awesome video!
Is it legal in tournaments to program one of your joystick's buttons to Focus? (Mk+Mp)
LeeGinSing yep
Great video, thanks!
god fucking damnit!!! i was trying to FADC the SP DP all day yesterday without results and i was thinking i was missing the time-frame. FUCK MY LIFE!!!
great video it was a huge help thanks.
Nice tutorial Goo.
god-level video
Do you have to have a fightstick to be good at this game? I play with the normal ps3 controller and it's difficult for me and i'm hopeless.
But a buddy of mine, who's a lot better than me, keeps telling me to start trials if I want to play with new characters.
taraishot100 There are many pro players who use controllers. Louffy won evo2014 with a ps1 controller.
taraishot100 I would pick a character and practice the bnb's of that character over and over again until it gets consistent, basically , learn a single character, you will be amazed by how much you can do with a single character.
Keep in mind , people say that "there's pro's playing with pad", but those same pros play characters that aren't that execution heavy. Its possible? yes , but way more difficult than with a stick or keyboard.
Valle said to to use strong dp. Now what, gootecks?
Maybe I wasn't clear, you use MP DP as anti air and LP on the ground
MP does 379, LP does 398
I just got my stick yesterday and in two days I learn how to do hadokens, dps, supers, ultras except for charge chars and 360s. I can do a kara into demon but I can't link mp, mp, HP.....
Peraliq link timing is tough. try learning plinking.
If you use an EX uppercut and you fadc on the second hit you get 438.
bigtonney Yes, at the cost of 3 bars instead of 2
Cross Counter TV You love your bars too much gootecks... Sometimes you just gotta give it your all.
There is no bar count on victory screen.
Can i play with these fight stick on ps1 games if so how then?
+Mechacelzi You can get a fight stick for the PS1, or PS2 or 3 that is backwards-compatible. You could also make a fight stick out of a PS pad. You could also use emulation on a PC with a USB fight stick.
Ralphenstein i was trying to play ps1 games on ps3 with madcatz fightsticks though
