Special Thanks to Sal LK :D
Correction: Native speakers between 4-6 million not only 1.5 million
also, the Tarifit language is a minority language in the Northwestern part of Algeria.
Azul! Ism inu d Andy. Mamec teǧid?
Hello! My name is Andy. How are you?
Let's talk about the Tarifit language.
Tarifit is a Tamazight language spoken by about 1.5 million people, primarily in Northern Morocco and in diaspora communities across Europe. It is the native language of the Riffian people and belongs to the Zenati subgroup of the Tamazight/Berber family, closely related to Chawiya and Mzab, and somewhat intelligible with other Northern Tamazight languages like Shilha and Kabylian. Tarifit can be divided into three major groups: Western, Central, and Eastern. Western and Central dialects have experienced significant sound changes, distinguishing them from other Tamazight/Berber languages, while the Eastern dialect has not. Each tribe in the Rif region has its own distinct dialectal features.
During the European colonial era, Spain controlled the Rif region in Africa. Dissatisfied with colonial rule, the Riffian tribes, led by Abd el-Krim al Khattabi, fought for independence, resulting in the Rif Republic from 1921 to 1926, with Tarifit as its de facto official language. The Riffians, or Irifiyen, are a Tamazight ethnic group native to the Rif mountains in Northern Morocco, primarily residing in the provinces of Nador, Al Hoceima, and Driouch, with smaller communities in nearby provinces and cities like Tangier. They are organized into multiple tribes, each historically distinguished by unique clothing, accessories, and cultural practices. The largest tribes are the Ayt Waryagher in the West, Iqerɛiyen in the Central North, and Ibdarsen in the South. The Ayt Iznassen tribe in the East is sometimes considered part of the Riffians, but sometimes seen as separate. The Riffians have a long history in the region, with records dating back to the Emirate of Nekur, established in 710.
Traditional Riffian men's clothing includes a hooded tunic, a turban, and esparto grass sandals. Women traditionally wear a dress and accessorize with engagement jewelry made from silver coins, amber, and coral. Notable accessories include diadem, necklaces and silver bracelets. Music and poetry are significant in Riffian culture. Traditional sung poetry, known as izran, is performed by young women during leisure and weddings, often focusing on love, with the couplet "Ya Ralla Buya" frequently repeated. Imedyazen, traveling musicians, performed at weddings using the tambourine. Modern Riffian poetry, called tiqessisin, continues to be valued, with artists creating works about Riffian history and culture.

@@Ilovelanguages Thanks for including tharificht. Little corrections here and there. You pronounced tharifith/tharificht the way an asousi or achelhi would.
We pronounce it a few ways as riffians ourself: tharifith, trifacht, tharificht. So you're a little incorrect Andy [that's your name right]? There are at least 9 million riffians in morocco at least in Arrif.
We consist of 16 tribes. I myself am a riffian as well, my tribe was nicknamed by the spanish [invaders] who called our ancestors: centaurs because they were also either on their horses or on a camel.
They almost never saw our grandparents and great grandparents walking😂. And little fun fact. You actually used mostly the n-riffian dialect. I myself speak more of central-east riffian leaning dialect.
I can understand n-riffians but some of them seem to struggle with my dialect. I wish you included more tribes in the introduction though.
You mentioned ibdarsen and iqer'iyen but forgot about the tribe in between these 2: aith bouyahyi which I belong to. I also have some ancestory from iqer'iyen and ait said.
Oh another little fun fact: to some tribes saying: amadhyaz/amadyaz is consider a bad word. Where I'm from it means someone who's shameless😂. But yes originally it was just used for folkkloric riffian music this is true.

Ayt Tuzin isn't counted as East from Dialect perspective, it's the Central Dialect. East is: Zaio, Kebdana, Berkane Area. Central is: Nador, Ben Tayeb, Driouch, Midar, Tafersit, Temsaman areas. West is basically everything west from the Oued Nekor: From Bni bouayach / Imzouren all the way to Targuist.

Both + tifinagh. Officially arabic, but for everyday life, we often use latin script with numbers actually. Since some numbers look like arabic letters and they dont exist phonetically in latin scripts. Like sba7l khayr. 7 is suppoused to be ح. That strong arabic Hhh.
      Or 3ayn 3=ع

@@abuqadr629 what do you mean officially? Have you read Tarifit literature, academic books, dictionaries? Most of them use latin, and none of them use numbers for letters in latin you can use: ḥ and ɛ for the 7 and 3. If you add the latin tamazight keyboard to your phone these are also the letters used, so not sure what you're claiming.

riffians mostly use the latin script due to spanish colonialism and roman influence during the ancient times. but tifinagh is also used sometimes in formal occasionts. arabic isnt really used.
