I was a docent and over night volunteer out there for 10 years. You missed the brig where German and Japanese prisoners were kept. The communication room was a restricted area of the ship and had a safe for the Captain. Someone drew a cartoon picture of Hitler that is still there. There are sailors drawings and names all over the ship including the steam gages in the engine room. The Coca cola machine in the Ge Dunk room was manufactured in March 1925 and The Coke a Cola company has been trying to have it moved to Atlanta for years.

While I can appreciate the movies, his comments indicate he has never been at sea. To be exact, some of them makes me cry. ISC JACK ROE USN RET. Served 1963t to 1988.

Wow, what a dump! lol I can see where years of leaks, humidity & rust have taken their toll in some areas, but other parts of the ship look okay - like they're only several decades old, lol. I bet she would've been a crowded beehive when fully manned, during the war. Nowadays you don't need so many crewmen to run a ship, thanks to computers and automation. I mean, Navy ships today don't have nearly as many wheels, cranks and levers like we saw inside this one. That's probably a good thing. Oh, and I had to chuckle at the "Prophylactic Room". Never knew those existed. Doubt if they still have said rooms on Navy ships today, but you can't deny, the need for them using condoms still exists today same as it ever did. Anyway, thanks for the video!

Seeing as they’re trying the best they can to maintain and restore her while also paying for her stay where she was, well, yeah of course she’s in bad condition. They haven’t been getting enough money from customers to sustain her. Kinda why she’s loving after her repairs.

The ship is over a hundred years old meaning you are looking at surfaces that have been exposed to salt air for over a hundred years and may have never had a second coat of paint since launching. I would like to see the ship freshly cleaned painted but it is extravagantly expensive to restore something that old and that huge. Maybe if you have an extra million dollars laying around.......

Texas CGN-39 was powered by two nuclear reactors. I understood the aft 100 feet had to be cut off to get into the current berth. Also everything above the main deck has been removed. All that is left is the hull and the parts of the reactors that had to stay. It will remain there forever. RIP Texas-CGN-39. The ship had a great history and should remain a museum. Thanks for sharing this video. ECL.

Uhhh while CGN-39 was called the USS Texas. USS Texas CGN-39 was the second Virginia-class guided missile cruiser and was scrapped on October 30th, 2001. The pennant number of the dreadnought-battleship Texas is BB-35. Would be wise to backcheck your stuff. American battleships (outside of pre-dreads) only ever had pennant numbers of BB-##.
