I’m no Sudoku genius, it usually takes me an hr or two for the Hard puzzles but yesterday and today’s were impossible for me and I had to use some hints and guessing. I’m glad it’s not just me from reading the comments

How is it 1489 for sure on there? Im not a pro sudoku player by any means and it takes me usually longer than an hour to fonish the hard ones from nyt as im learning new techniques with every new one, but today, i dont understand why the top 4 on the 2nd row are locked? Because both 9 and 2 could theoretically be placed left or right in the first box cant it?

1489s locked only in four cells in column2, so 1489s will be eliminated from other cells in col2.
      It's called QUADRUPLE.

@@Ramakrishnagm w8 i think i get it, so regardless if the numbers are found elsewhere in a box, or if said numbers can be candidates in other places on said row or column or box, as long as they are the only 4 ones in those four squares, they are a pair, and i just redid my thinking and i saw why it couldnt be any other number on those four, i think what got me was the fact that they were in 2 different boxes, damn this one truly was a hard brain teaser for a sudoku noob like me:))

@@popaadrian7517 A rule of sudoku is that if there are n digits in n squares in a house, those digits can be removed from that house in the other squares. For example, if there are 3 particular digits possible in 3 squares in a row, (and no other digits) those 3 digits can be removed from any other squares in that row.
