    I think I started with 8 in block 2 (sets up a 5 & 8 pair in box 1), followed by the 2 and 4 as the video. I went wrong on this one no less than 3 times which made it really frustrating, and I couldn't see what the errors were, so what did I learn from it? The 4th attempt was successful, but by then I had to write in pairs and bi-value cells for a painstaking methodical approach. Being unable to sleep during the night I picked up a book of Killers, and did two of the 'tricky' ones notation free, so evidently I was more wide awake then than a few hours earlier!

    At the 16:19 mark, there is a 5,6,7 triple in Row 3 at Cols 2, 4, and 9. This allows placement of the 4 at R3C8. Prior to that, I had also filled in the 2 in Box 1, the 2,6,8 in Box 4, and the 2,8 in Box 6. Those placements were made using the unique 2,8 rectangle in Boxes 4 and 6. Placement of the 4 at R3C8 didn't finish it up for me. I recall there was something else clever that was needed after that, but I don't remember at this point what it was. This one was very challenging to do without marks, for me at least.

    Trump has already lost one nominee, Gaetz as AG. There are three GOP Senators,, all members of the Senate appropriation committe, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Mitch McConnell, who led the resistance by saying Heel No ! Despite strong pressure by non other than "God" himslef, Musk. And it begins to look as the birth of a resistance movement against extreme nominations. It only remains to be seen how far they will go.

    I could not help but see a "NY Timish" feature to this rather easy puzzle that allowed for a quick start with the 695 from row 3 forming a triple in the upper part of block 1, with the 6 being in r2c3 and the 59 in the upper middle column and the resulting 34 in the lower row...

    Strange. there are a couple of numbers that can be filled out in box 1 straight away (which when filled in gives a 5 in R1 and sorts C7), but still wanting at point of using candidates. Also C7 fills out fairly easily. Also it is strange I took 17 minutes the first time, I did it again and spent 24 on it!

    The silver lining of tariff based economies have been the disasters of a decades long poverty ridden depression in the later part of the XIXth century and th crash of 1929 and subsequent depression that was not an insignificant factor in the political mood that led to WW II. Thanks for wishing us this as a cure to consumers' appetites. I don't know if this is meant by algorythms creating those puzzles, but I find it fascinating how frequent solutions depend on, or is facilitated by, potential UR conflicts. So again today, when the puzzle becomes more difficult in the situation you had in the 8th minute of the video, a quick and easy solution driven by a UR potential in the 2nd and 3rd columns of rows 1 and 5. As you identified early, row 5 has a certain 29 pair. Row 9 has a known matching positions in either col 2 or 3. So, already, you know that the 2 cannot join those 9s. We also know that r1c4 is a 24 bi-value cell and that r1c3 and r3c3 are a pair of 8s. At that stage, you still cannot immediately solve this. You have easy placements to do like 48 in the middle row of block 6, and hence 1 in r4c9 and 7 in r6c9, 7 in r5c5 and 1 in r6c6, etc. Ultimately, you will know that the 2 and 4 cannot both be in the lower row of block 1 , so one of them will have to join the 9 in the upper row, and the obvious choice will be the 4 due to the UR rule. Good puzzle today, but still relatively easy to solve in the end thanks to this UR situation.

      Accusing me of 'wishing' this policy is rather unfair. I certainly don't think it's a good idea, knowing that essential goods and services are likely to be hit, making life especially difficult for the less well off. I merely wondered if an unintended consequence might be reduced consumerism (not that I think that's the right way to achieve it).

    • @georgesthibaudeau1533
      @georgesthibaudeau1533 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@zen_art_of_guardian_sudoku I was just being sarcastic, you should know me by now:) The teriff policy gets much more complicated nowadays with extensive industry integration. Canada was told there will be a 25% tariff on all imported goods starting the first day of his presidency. The first step in the production of aluminium occurs in Canada, more precisely Quebec plus one plant in British Columbia. The US has no modern in frastructure for it, and no plant is capable of obtaining a safe, stable electrical power supply to operate their plants, and the cost of electricity would be about 5 times the Quebec cost. So what will happen to the price of aluminium based parts in Boeing aircrafts, American cars. In the latter case, car components may cross the Canada-US border as much as 5 times in the various steps of industrial production before they end up in a auto assembly plant in the US.This is just crazy, and resistance to tariffs will originate as much from inside America as from victimised countries. There are strictly no serious economists who think this stupid idea can work. This may not prevent Trump from inflicting much harm within as well as without the US.

    I did your pre-pencil mark portion , that was really beginners' sudoku, in under 5 minutes. I decided I would STICK to my notation free game when I got to the STICKING phase of the puzzle. That proved to be a challenge to my old, weakening, brain. It took me all of 17 more minutes to finish what I had started in 5 minutes ! Until I determined that I had 4 and 8 below the 9 in the middle column ofblock 2 ! Painful, but a good exercise :)

    At 13m14s, dealing with the potential 67 UR in the central vertical chute, ousting 67 from cell r1c4, you realise that the cell is a 15 and conclude: that won't help. This is quite an extraordinary statement: knowing a cell is a bi-value cell is always a powerful restriction. At that stage, easy finish using another UR, your specialty: 19 pair down in the lower row of block 9.; a 11 in the matching position in the lower row of block 6; the 9s cannot join the 1s there under pain of a UR. Hence 9 in r6c6, 5 above that 9, puzzle done. I was slow doing it, albeit no real difficulty: 16 minutes notation free.

    A puzzle that needs to be looked at with attention. Column 3 seems unpromising, except that you have myriads of digits creating interceptions from a series of very busy rows. So, rows 5 and 8 are both 78 bi-value cells, which ends up placing the 2 in r1c3, r2c9 and r3c5, which basically takes care of the puzzle.

    Fun puzzle with a quick buildup start in block 9's left side: pair of 13 in the middle row, pair of 27 in the upper row, and hence, from left to right in row 9: 4,5 and 8. With that in store, you can notice among other things that column 3 has the 8 in row 7, a 47 pair in rows 2 and 8, and a 25 pair in rows 5 and 6. Still some work to do, but you have quite a nice framework of retrictions to make further progress. P.S.: I did not specify that the immediate impact of having a 47 in r8c3 was to place a 2 in r8c1, because I thought it was too obvious, but.... Your comments on micro-studies are interesting. But another common sense issue that would require an impossible macro stdy is whethe r the utopia coming mostly, but not exclusively, from the left that it is up to the State to practice social engineering as if people were pawns that must be dirrected to the State idea of what is good for them, is something that must be discarded entirely. As I am writing this, fond memories of reading Aldous Huxley come to mind.
