      @meshzzizk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ireneadler4925 I’m also a big fan of the Sailor pigment inks, Seiboku probably being my fav of the 3. Have you tried Cassis Black from the Platinum iron gall line? Was surprised by how much I liked that one
      My other standard go-tos have been Kala -Spectrolite, -Scapolite (good shading), and -Hematite, and Noodlers -Air Corp Blue Black (nice shading in finer nibs), -Black Swan in Australian Roses (great shading), and Kung Te Cheng (none!).
      Tbh I’ve gone a bit mad over the past year of covid lockdown experimenting with different ink mixtures, so most of my pens are currently filled with various ink blends that would make the average fountain pen user recoil in horror. I’ll take a non-waterproof ink I want to use and mix in a little permanent ink of a complementary color for ballast, or start with a permanent ink that’s a little bland on the page and add a dab of sheening ink and a splash of one that shades well. It has occasionally gotten messy but more often yielded some of the nicest looking writing in my notebooks from 2020-21

    • @meshzzizk
      @meshzzizk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ireneadler4925 Oh, and i should put in a good word for Faber-Castell Moss Green, which is hands down the nicest green ink I’ve found. Not robustly waterproof but enough that you wouldn’t have to worry about losing the text, and very attractive tone, shading, and read-back.

    I've watched an obscene amount of Goulet content on TH-cam, but this was the first time I've seen this video. I have all but two of these inks. I don't have the Diamine Oxblood and I don't have Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses. I recognized the Colorverse Quasar before they named it and I JUST finished a bottle of Lamy Azurite (that bottle is tough to get up the dregs -- unlike the larger Lamy bottles, it doesn't have the depression in the middle of the bottle --, but I used a snorkel to get up the last drops) and reordered some more yesterday. I think this is a great list.
    Others I think are worth mentioning would be:
    Diamine Golden Oasis
    KWZ Sheen Machine 2
    Vinta Inks Maharlika
    Vinta Inks Harlequin
    Diamine Inkvent Blue Edition Blue Peppermint
    Diamine Inkvent Blue Edition Jack Frost
    Monteverde's entire Noir series (I bought the set and I LOVE them!)
    Organics Studio Santiago's Sea Blue
    Organic Studios Masters of Writing Edgar Allan Poe Raven Red
    Ya know, just add anything by Organic Studios. I love their inks
    Pilot Iroshizuku inks (they mentioned Kon-Peki, but they're all gorgeous inks. One of my favorite brands.)
    There are several Robert Oster inks I like but I hate their bottles (you can't get a nib into the bottle). I usually buy empty 50ml ink bottles from Goulet and pour the Robert Oster ink into those.
    OK, I've said way more than anyone will ever read. I'll stop.

    Platinum Carbon Black. If I could only have one ink (in a nightmare world) it would be Carbon black. I am a lefty and a sketcher, although I have and like Noodlers Black, it does not dry as fast or look as deep in tone as Carbon black. In a Carbon desk pen, I have never tried it in my other pens (yet). That also gives me the finest line for journal entries and inking sketches. Plus waterproof. Nitrogen is number two, closely followed by Organics Studio Walden. Those two have monster sheen even with fine nibs and cheap paper. I sampled Diamine Oxblood and thought it too dark so I bought a bottle of Diamine Red Dragon. By the time it came, I was in love with the darkness of Oxblood. Go figure! I can't justify buying another bottle that is close to the red I have, can I?

    Diamine oxford blue is a must have, it's very very formal, yet adds character and intrigue to one's writing due to its midnight, blue-black look. It's as close to black as a blue ink can get, but will never be perceived as one due to its red sheen and visible blue tones.

  • @jkrause365
    @jkrause365 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Some of my favorites: Diamine Sherwood Green, Noodlers Red Black. Brown is difficult to render, I think. It's all to easy to create an ink that is flat, and dull. For a brown ink, I like Visconti Sepia; for purple, De Atramentis Aubergine, or Hamilton; for blue Diamine Oxford Blue or Sargasso Sea.

    Definitely agree about *Diamine Oxblood.* But can't agree that the ink most closely resembling dried human blood would be appropriate for an office setting. Love letters? Yes! But co-workers in an office setting might get the wrong impression if they see hand-written memos suspiciously looking like dried blood.
    *Sheaffer Red* if you want a rich vibrant red that most closely resembles fresh blood that hasn't dried. More appropriate for the office, and still great for romantic Love letters. (Especially if your special someone might get horrified at the thought you gave them a letter written in what they think is actual blood that has dried by the time it reached them.)
    *Noodler's Heart of Darkness* is an excellent black ink as well. And represents something truly important. Especially when paired up with Noodler's free Charlie pen.

    • @jamesaritchie1
      @jamesaritchie1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being a lefty should not stop you from using a fountain pen. It's just as easy to underwrite as a lefty as it is for a righty. If you weren't taught, there are plenty of instructional videos. There have been hundreds of lefties who used dip pens and fountain pens beautifully, and with no smearing.
      Thomas Jefferson used a quill, which I've found is much harder to write with than a fountain pen, and his handwriting was stunning.
      When I was young, about the same time Thomas Jefferson was doing his thing, they taught lefties to write with a straight wrist, and the hand never came close to the ink. I don't know why that isn't taught now. But they don't even teach most kids who are righties the corrent way to hold a pen or pencil now.

      @@jamesaritchie1 when I underwrite, my handwriting, which is normally beautiful, significantly suffers. My long term favorite is Herbin Poussiere de Lune. It's nice, a little different, but it won't piss off your bank. Diamine Writer's Blood is giving it a run for its money these days, and this year's Inkvent featured another in that vein called Seize the Night, which I really enjoy. I love shading, and Monteverde Fire Opal and Cherry Danish both go absolutely wild on that. But the Iroshizuku line wins on all ties in every color because the bottle is absolutely inspired and also I've never had any problems in any of my pens, no matter how fussy, from any of them.

    Lamy Azurite really won me over. Great ink.
    Even though it's maddening, I still always have a pen inked up with Noodler's Baystate Blue. It's just a unique ink.
    Even though it's pricey, BunguBox's Piano Mahogany looks and works beautifully in every pen I've inked it with.
    Diamine Oxford Blue is my go to dark blue ink. It's rich with some red sheen. Love it.
    Krishna Jungle Volcano is another unique ink that should be in every collection. Krishna Causal is my favourite blue green ink.
    Robert Oster's River of Fire and Fire and Ice are no brainers for me.

    J Herbin Corail des Tropiques was one of my first purchases along with Colorverse Félicette, and while I love both, Corail is my favorite ink to date. There's a decent amount of shading, even on less than fountain friendly papers, and it's just dark enough to be totally legible.
    I tend towards warm colors, especially warm pinks and oranges, and Corail des Tropiques is one I keep stocked at all times. Apache Sunset is also high on my list after getting a sample. A full bottle is going to be the next purchase I make.

      It's a great option if you have bottled ink & fill before school. If you ever need to refill, it could get tricky that's why I usually recommend a cartridge pen. - Colin
