I own two BPS knives, and here is a tip. Using a small metric allen wrench, take the handle scales off. You will more then likely find rust under the scales. Not a really big deal. Just sand the rust off. apply a good coat of mineral oil, and replace the scales. I have the BPS Savage and the BS1FTS. Both very good blades.
I'm a little late to the party.. however, how do you like the Savage???
It looks like the perfect all around edc blade.
replace the scales? how?
@@zy7056knock out the pins , maybe have to do some grinding. If the scales are glued on , boiling water will loosen them. Get other handle material , shape it to size , drill holes for new pins and epoxy them down.
I just ordered the B1 and am looking forward to getting it. I have the BPS Adventurer and absolutely love it. It takes an edge that is insane sharp and comes with a fero rod and the loop on the sheath. Acutally, the BPS sheaths are worth the price of the whole package. I wish they would come out with a line of knives made from blown up Russian tanks and armor....God knows there is enough to build a knife for every person in the world. I see the Condor is now $57 and the BPS is $35. I do like the fact it supports the Ukraine war effort.
I have both and love them also!
@@WooÐY Just yesterday I recieved the "Charity Lot- Stand With Ukraine Camp Knife" I ordered it directly from BPS. The very nice sheath, a darker brown than usual, has the Trident symbol embossed on it. The knife has a laser etched "Support Ukriane" on it. Proceeds go to the war effort. Shipping and all it came in at less than $60. Very nice keepsake.

I am a huge Condor fan and I think Condor Tool and Knife offer the best kit out there.
I also bought two BPS knives recently and they are superb value for money too.
Personally Im going to be buying a few more BPS knives because the sheaths are 1890s level of thick hide, and the knives are 1990s prices.
These are mid tier knives selling at budget prices.
I have the BPS B1 - an excellent knife at a very good price. I am about to force the patina with boiling vinegar to give it a little corrosion resistance. Very happy with the knife.
I got two BPS knife and they are both just great made products for the price, love them.
Thanks. I picked up the Condor Bushlore and Bushlore Mini. and the BPS stainless steel blank to make and put my own scales on. Great knives. Cheers.
I have both. I prefer the BPS. The first thing I did when I got the Condor was use a different Sheath. TheCondor rides to high. The BPS isn't settling. They are the basically same knife with Condor using a "technically harder" steel and a palm swell. I like the adjustable pins more on BPS knives. I have 3 condors and 4 bps knives.
Got 4 BPS, 8 Mora,2 Condor,1 LTWK,5 Cold Steel, several folding knives from various companies might get Bark rivers next or maybe work truff wolverine or Kodiak but strange enough i used BPS more often. I have 4 that i have soak in vinegar to help reduce rust wrap Tennis tape around its handle to give it more grip and comfort. Its super easy to sharpen and a good price for a full tang kife. Good Reviews sir😊
I just ordered this knife and have Lizard Skin Baseball Bat & Tennis Racket Grip Tape for the handle lol I think it'll work great like you said
Treat the sheath with Boiled Linseed Oil. put at least three coats on, or until it stops absorbing the oil. Then put the knife in and the sheath and let sit over night, the fit will be a lot better. Plus the leather is now water proofed.
I wouldn't recommend BLO on leater. The drying agents contian heavy metals, and the polymerized oil ages and cracks, and won't allow any further treatment. A little Obenauf's heavy duty LP, or leather oil is a much better solution. Snoseal works well too; warm the leather with a hairdryer first
@@mandtgrantdo you think mink oil would work good too?
@@Phaminator525I'm not fond of mink or neatsfoot oil; a little is good, but too much will make it soft and stretched. I'm not keen on boot grease either. Something with wax in the mix works best for me
Yeah, don't put boiled linseed oil on your leather. Use a leather care product. I do woodwork and leather work, linseed oil is not interchangeable, wood products for wood, and leather for leather.
I own 6 of the BPS, and I love them. I put a lanyard on each knife to help pull the knife out of the sheath!! The sheaths are an exceptional value!!👍🙂
I have three BPS knives, and love them! One has beautiful bog oak handle.
I do like the brass rivets and lanyard tube on the Condor.
One advantage to the BPS fasteners --is that it is dead easy to remove the scales to force a patina on the entire blade. Also it is dead easy to make yourself a new handle to your own preference. I have pieces of Rosewood, Black Locust, Ipe, teak and Mahogany to make new scales from.
I had ordered one for my step son. Pretty impressive knife for the money..! I liked it so much I ordered myself one.
cool thing with the BPS Knives & the screwes, as mentioned you can take the scales off & clean up underneath but also if you like playing around & customizing this means you can replace the handles with your own. if you worry qabout them coming lose you can always add a drop of locktite
Not an advocate for the war. But I do own 7 BPS Knives.
I have both of these knives. I really like them both.
you could always sand the BPS hand and give it a palm swell. I ordered mine, should have it tomorrow. I have been hearing great reviews of BPs knives. Great value for the cost.
I now have 4 bps knives and bought 3 of them directly from bps .i am now a bps fan, so maybe my next is this one ..got a condor, bought the blank, and put my own handle on it ..thanks for the hard work you put into the channel. And content .God bless you and your family and happy camping 🏕 🙏 😊. Lee
Both are great knives but I would feel safer using the BPS for food preparation because of the Polish surface which is easier to clean. That way you don't have to take a separate knife for food.
Were I'm from condor bushlore is $70+ but the bps b1 bushcraft is $39.99 on amazon so I ordered the bps b1 should have it this Monday
You're going to love it. Comes razor sharp out of the box.
I own 4 BPS knives including the B1. I owned the Condor Cave Lore in 1095 and wanted the plain blade as well so I bought the Bushlore. I like them all. The reason BPS uses the screws on the handle is so you can customize your knife handles. Which I think is a plus.
Yes i thought the same is why i bought just the blades from them and the screws are included .
I bought the Condor Bushlore blank a few years ago and put black micarta scales with orange liners on it. I think the blank was about $20 then . I also bought the Kepart and Woodlaw blanks. It's a cheap way to go , at least I think. I've made a few knives. You'll be making or buying a sheath though.
BPS
All the way, I’ve built 17 bush craft homes with my HK5
You can’t beat this knife, I love the screws to take it apart and clean and oil.
(every American should own one) made in Ukraine 🇺🇦
I’m surprised there even selling this knife.
RAZOR BLADE, be careful 😎
Personally if I could afford it I would pick the condor knife. The extra shaping on the handle, the better steel, and the improved quality of the sheathe are important factors.
The handle is where you interact with the knife the most and a better handle makes for a better experience with the knife.
Do you know which BPS knife you would recommend for all camp usage, durable but main task battoning
They also make the B1 in 5Cr14MoV stainless steel and they offer an additional 1066 knife with a sheath that has a ferro rod holder and a ferro rod.
5cr14mov shouldn't be used for knives at this time, it is a gas station knife steel.
No copyright on those knives, they're all lazy copies of the knife Alan Woods made for Ray Mears in the early 1990's. I have knives from both companies, love a lot of Condor's original designs. Every knife I've had from BPS has been flawlessly-made, and a great bargain 👍
Love my B1! 1066 is awesome for the price.
They are both knock-offs of the Ray Mears Woodlore. I thought about getting the BPS version but I am not sold on the blade shape. It also depends on the photos, they oddly look better or worst depending on the photo. I only use short lanyards if the fit is tight and there is not a lot of handle sticking out of the sheath to get a good grip. Use Loctite on the screws if that is an issue for you. I have 3 other BPS knives, they are worth it just for the sheaths.
I own 5 BPS knives. I find the quantity and value to be great
Hey...one year later...are they still both holding up ?
The screws for the Bps knives i see as a slight advanvage ,as they can be easily removed and the handle replaced or customised a bit to your liking i got three bps blades only for that very reason ,and again should the handles get damaged in use easier to replace you could even put a slight hollow in the underside and put a few fish hooks and leader under it as well a small fero rod with out hurting the structural integrity of the scales id think .
I ordered the B1 for the straight blade compared to the Bushlore's. I ordered the BS1FT because Condor discontinued the Sapien. Both great knives.
Great video!I appreciate it as I just bought 5 BPS knives!!!😃I was so impressed with the quality and very affordable.Excellent video my friend.I just subscribed to your channel 😊🔪👍
Another difference is the RC numbers, 59-60 for BPS vs 55-59 for the Condor.
In my view, Condor's RC is too broad.
Good Job Friend Did a similar BPS , but not as good as the adventurer Vs an offgrid knife,
Own both. They come sharp and easy to sharpen. Just don't be an idiot and mess them up. Buck makes a splitting froe for those who want to beat on knives. Okay, they don't seem to mind the small stuff. Just leave the saw logs alone.
you could probably re handle the bps and put in a palm swell if you want... good shit man. nice video
You should check out the BPS raven. 5” stainless blade. Sabre ground extended tang. Comes in a kydex sheath. I think this is the knife issued to AFU
I am a fan of BPS... They are a good company to start with.
As of today (June 19/2024) on Amazon Canada the Condor Bushlore is $150.00 and the BPS B1 is $45.00. The differences between the two are not worth $105.00. Condor used to be reasonable with their pricing but they have more than doubled since I bought my first one a few years ago. BPS all the way.
The BPS knife works really well when you bury it and I log and do a drag back on it for your feather stick
I bought a bps knife and it's kinda rough. The tang sticks out from the scales. It needs to be ground flush with the scales. I thought about sending it back but might keep it. I don't know yet.
I have a feeling that the Kondor will be a better knife overall than the BPS.. especially when it comes to grip - The handle is definitely the Kondor. And I think that overall processing will be of higher quality condor. In our case, it's Kondor €70, that's about $80. Slovakia country. Mini Kondor €55 some $60. I am thinking of buying both a small and a large Kombo. What do you think of these Konders of ours and the little mini? Is this a good choice or should I just give up? BPS My own log for 2 months, the one you reviewed seems quite nice to me, except for the handle. It is too narrow, it could have been fatter. He'd better behave..
I just bought the condor bushlore. I wish I bought the BPS. The condor came with uneven scales and an uneven scandi grind.
The grass isn't greener. My condors have straight grinds, but my bps Bushcraft axe does not.
sheath on the BPS will mould better the first time you oil it (mink oil ofc)
Remove the scales of your BPS knife. Apply a good coat of waterproof J-B MarineWeld Epoxy. Replace the scales : no more rust under the scales. Enjoy your knife in peace.
Also check out the Condor Wayfinder.
Condor offers great knives @ affordable prices. I own 3 so far......
Competition is good---I think Condor knives are pretty good, but overpriced for El Salvador production. The BPS knives are really good, really sharp, and cheaper. I would not get hung up on the supposed steel types. Heat treat is the key at this price point.
The "scandi" grind, aka the zero point grundy, or double chisel grind is the worst for an outdoor, survival blade. It's only good quality is its ability to grab and cut into wood, but the smallest roll or knick in the blade and you have to move the entire bezel to fix it. A flat grind is much better for an outdoor knife.
Let's not forget our gloves when we're handling our knives
@@LXT43 you know what you can kiss right
You could save a couple extra bucks and get a BeaverCraft there's a lot of options but, it's all about personal skill when it's said and done.
I love condor knives but like other knife companies the prices are starting to get out of control
BPS prices are creeping up too, not as much as the others but give them time.
Thanks for this video. I knew right away at 0:59 that the BPS was not for me, thanks to you :) The reason? the cutting edge from the BPS starts way after the end of the handle, whereas the Condor one starts very near the handle.
it would make a difference, for skinning, not much else though
For me, the BPS handle is too small, I don't have a large hand but I prefer a thicker one. I have two knives from BPS and they are great. in this comparison I will choose the condor
bps I have exactly this model, I like it but I also want to try condor, I think the steel quality will be better. Also, the handle will be better to hold, I don't have a big hand, but bps It has a quite narrow handle, it could be chubby, I prefer it too.
Walnut scales on the Condor
BPS $100, Condor some $135 in Australia. For me the Condor anytime.
Would've been easier if you put one end of the stick against a stump or a log when making the feather stick instead of freehanding it!
Check out the Ray Mears woodslore it's what the bushlore copied. They're over $600. That's why I've had a bushlore for years.
And if you're going to bury a bladepoint keep your thumb on the top of the tank so your hand doesn't accidentally slide down the knife when you bury it
I would say the question more is ? .... DO YOU NEED TO SPEND MORE FOR A KNIFE THAT COST MORE. If you can do the same job with a knife that costs less. ULTIMATELY ! Why would you want to pay more ? ....
Good video el sav is basically Mexico and Mexico is 1 above China so I’m glad bps isn’t from either
Condor is better by a mile!
I don't use a lanyard, when I have, it would get caught on shrubs and pull my knife out. I would notice and find my knife handing on a branch behind me....
I have both knives and the Condor steel seems easier to sharpen.
I would pay an extra $60 and get the Esee RB3
BPS 🙂🇺🇦👍
Condor knives are now over priced for what they are. I remember how my Condor Hudson bay edge bent while I was chopping a piece of wood.
BPS for me I think .....
A minimal size blade should be small about 9 " ches over-all 14 " not a potato peeler ???
Why anyone would ever want a knife made of 1066 steel for survival is beyond me. It is classified as a low to mid carbon steel .65-.7%. Much better off with a stainless from a Mora or the sk5 steel ( similar to 1080) from hultafors, for half the price. Also beyond me why anyone would want wood scales for a survival knife, when synthetic materials are almost indestructible in that environment.
Overall.. a very poor choice for a survival knife.
There aren't marketed as survival knives. They are bushcraft knives.
BPS are a good deal, kind of a heavy duty kitchen knife but you'd have to be dumb to break it
Well. I hate to tell you this but at 50 and 30 dollars you can own two excellent knives that are well worth the money.
BPS is garbage. I prefer 1095, but 1075 is better than 1066. It's better than nothing, but neither are a Mora bushcraft black.
For twenty dollars more your just buying the name.
Get the Condor it wont rust just from looking at it BPS is cheap crap and plain knock offs of other companies knives.
Condor is my preference my taxes already sponsor Ukraine 😢
lol, unfortunately yes our taxes do!
These videos are useless,if I take my Old Hickory kitchen knife outside it immediately transforms into Bushcraft knife or my SAK pocket knife…Do you think caveman were sitting around the fire 🔥 and going “Hey Dude check out my new Obsidian knife, it’s Rad”😂 as far as I know any knife can make a notch
@@celticpride9311 Heck, you are probably right, this always brings me to 2001 Space Odyssey when those humanoid primates grab the bones 🦴 and start smashing,my complaint was people just Bragg waaay too much, before internet 🛜 and information revolution, you were deemed cool 😎 if you just had a knife, nowadays everyone is an expert on the subject…I found fossilized bone,I would like to find out what or which animal is from…
People find pleasure in imagining themselves doing something instead of actually doing it. I think that’s why people spend so much time on this stuff. They can’t get out and do it so they dream about it instead. Fantasy sells
@diapedesis1093 😆 🤣 I went to destroy a log for firewood, it didn't go well,,my mind says Yes but my body says NOOOO but I am not willing to give up easily I'll fight that log until I make fire, but there's one problem, I did split it in half and knots and burrl is beautiful so it's sacrilege to burn 🔥 it..What do you think? BTW I use anything, axe 🪓, hatchet, saw, knife, rock, I don't care, life is beautiful and ignore BS...
I have both I like the BPS better
I have both. Condor knives are one of best knives made and can’t be beat for the money. BPS aren’t near as tough, they also rust faster.
I also like that Condor is made in El Salvador which is doing a lot of great things right now.
And a big F U to Ukrainian and there money laundering communist BS operations!
I LOVE THE CONDOR KNIVES, I HAVE A LOT OF THEM AND I OWN TWO BUSHLORE ONES, THE WALNUT ONE THAT YOU SAW AND THE ONE WITH MICARTA SCALES. BOTH OF THEM, BPS AND BEAVERCRAFT KNIVES HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED, A LOT, FROM THE MORA KNIVES AND THEY USE CHEAPER CS THAN THE MORA ONES, THAT THEY USE 1095 CS, TO KEEP THE COSTS DOWN. THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCES FOR ME, AS IT CONCERNS, BOTH OF THE TWO KNIVES, ARE, THE CS AND THAT THE CONDOR DOES NOT PROVIDE A LEATHER DANGLER FOR THE SHEATH. OTHER THAN THAT, THE BPS KNIFE LOOKS OK, BUT, AS I CAN SEE, IT DOES NOT BITE THE WOOD, WHEN YOU MADE THE FEATHER STICKS, AS THE CONDOR BUSHLORE. IN GREECE YOU CAN FIND, AT THE MOMENT, ONLY THE BEAVERCRAFT KNIVES AND TWO BPS. FOR MY OPINION, THE BEST BPS KNIVES ARE : THE ADVENTURER WITH CS, THE B1, THE BS2FT AND THE BS3 THAT IT IS LIKE THE MORA COMPANION AND IT IS FULL TANG. THE PRICES FOR THE UKRANIAN KNIVES, IN GENERAL, ARE OF A VERY GOOD QUALITY OF MONEY. ANOTHER FANTASTIC AND ECONOMICAL KNIFE FROM CONDOR IS THE TERRASAUR, WITH 1095 CS. ALSO, CHECK FOR THE BEAVERCRAFT HATCHET, IT IS EXCELLENT AND FOR THE JOKER BUSHLORE, WITH SLEIPNER CS, BETTER THAN THE D2 AND IT IS CHEAPER THAN THE CASSTROM LARSE FALT. GOOD VIDEO. IF I HAD A LOT OF MONEY, I WOULD BUY SOME HANDMADE KNIVES FROM UK, CHECK FOR THE :
BEN AND LOIS ORFORD
ALLAN WOOD
BISON BUSHCRAFT
AE
ROB EVANS AND
SANDY
FROM USA
LT WRIGHT
WOOD BEAR
PKS
WC KNIVES AND
BATTLE HORSE
THE BEAVERCRAFT WOOD CARVING KNIVES ARE FANTASTIC.
