Thanks for the vid, great job. I made mine today. I'd suggest starting with the aft/lowest horizontal piece. Make certain the T-pieces fit perfectly into the 9" deck grooves. Make the front/lowest part to match, and rest is super easy. Measure twice, cut once, glue very very last. Can't wait to try it out. Now I can fit two 3600 boxes under the seat.
I fish out of a passport 12.0 year around in the Tx coast. Ive added both map pockets, h crate, fish finder, rectangular hatch, XL rudder, anchor trolley, 6mm deck pad kit from Louisiana custom kayaks, and 2 more 4" tracks behind the seat on the starboard and port rails. The XL passport rudder and the vertical rectangular hatch had the biggest and most instant impact on my fishing. If you havent done those 2 things, I highly recommend them. Great content sir. The seat is the biggest downfall of the passport. Ive measured other seats from hobie and other manufacturers to see if it can be swapped. I settled on a 4" seat cushion. Your idea is a great option.

Great video! I fish out of a 10.5 Passport, I’ve upgraded the rudder, added map pockets and an extra hatch. I like this idea. I added an H bar standing assist so I can stand up and stretch. Not stable enough to stand up and fish. I post fishing videos on my channel too.
Thanks Randy! I continue to make some additional mods to my kayak and I do agree with you, it is very hard to stand in and therefore I increased the height of the seat to help with some sight fishing and getting in and out of my kayak easier. I also just subscribed to your channel!!!
Randy, the stability was shaky at the beginning but made some tighter adjustments to all the access points on the PVC. I am stably now, but like all kayaks, it will depend on the boat traffic and waves!
Which H Bar did you use on your Passport 10.5. I need it for the same reason you do to just get up. Plus getting out and in of the kayak will be easier.
At this time I do not have an H Bar installed. With the raising for my seat it has helped me to get in and out much easier. I maybe looking at that for next year.

I have followed your instructions to mod my seat and it is so much better on the old knees getting in and out of the boat. I decided not to glue the vertical pieces so if I choose to change the height, I can just cut new lengths of pvc to adjust accordingly. I also adjusted the length of the vertical pieces to have the seat in a slight recline position which is much more comfortable. The extra seat height does change the center of gravity of the boat somewhat, but it is still very stable.

Great idea, two quick questions, could you please put a parts list in the description. Second, I have the passport 12 and I am about to mount a transducer for my fish finder using the thru hull kit. The transducer cable routes through the scupper hole between the seat and the hatch and then back into the hull about 2”in front of that . I am wondering if the fron support of the seat would sit on the transducer cable?

Took it out twice so far and since I didn’t go to excessive with the height, it has been pretty stable for me. Just do not go to high with the modifications.
@@pxfishing lol didn't notice it was a year ago. I'm actually downgrading. Didn't like the PA, didn't like my outback. I'm very minimalist and those other 2 were also very heavy.
good video! I copied your design but overlooked one detail. I used a 3 way pvc elbow. This brought the tree connectors closer. I couldnt bring them out much anyway because a weld near the corner on one side. You got the mesh to fit trees in front so nice. mine is too loose. I haven't tried mine on the water yet. did you feel any leg discomfort after pedaling? just curious. thank you!
Glad this helped you out.👍 It has been a life saver to me in many ways. As for the discomfort, there are at times but that is when I am pedaling all the time or keep my feet on the pedals. Taking them off at various times and stretching makes it much more bearable.

I kept it a lower height for me and stability was still there. If you go crazy on how high you out it in inches, yes, it will most definitely effect it. Much easier for me to sit in it when you get to my age too! 😊👍

Yes, it definitely makes it easier in many ways. Learning the new balance point will be needed but I have had lots of luck with this adjustment.

Raising the seat didn’t give you any stability issues ?
Minor stability issues. Now if you go higher than what I did it will. The less of a raise, your comfort level, will give you the stability.

Thank you! I have sat in it and with my weight of 180 it held very well. The more weight the more support you will require to support it.
It will hold quite a bit since the pieces supporting the weight are vertical.

Will this still snap in place like the original seat or does it just sit in the kayak?
It will still snap into the seat latch/hook in the back with no issue at all. Hope this is what you are looking for as an answer.

The gap within the snap Tee measures at 9/16 of an inch. This allows for it to snap on tightly to the bar. Hope this helps you out.

yeah, best part of the passport is the low seat height, so stable you can nap on the water
