- Is Cork the real Capital of Ireland? I take to the streets to ask the people of Cork themselves!
It is widely agreed amongst Cork people, that Cork is the true Capital of Ireland. Do Cork people really believe that though? I went to County Cork, Ireland to find out.
What do you think though? Is Cork the real capital of Ireland? Comment below and let me know!
(P.S: this video was filmed before the madness happened with the world)

Rip gary my friend one of the nicest always made people laugh you're at peace now boy. Whoever watching this the very first person gary is very good friend of mine he passed away .. ❤
I came to Cork to study English in 2013 and came back for my Master degree at CIT in 2017-2018. I would always recommend Cork over Dublin to anyone who is considering between Cork and Dublin. Truly the capital of Ireland in my heart. Love this video! Miss all the accents.
Where in the world are you now?
Are u serious? It seems so much harder to understand people from cork
Im going to Ireland to study too, soon
@@Ruyo8 Be sure to check what is going over there forealz hommie. Accommodation crisis, tough weather, pricey... Is not unicorns and rainbows over there and definitely appreciate the sun wherever u are now.
Cork had to be.
Imagine Ireland is a bottle of whiskey.
If you turn the bottle upside down, the cork
Keeps it all inside.
Remove the cork and Ireland dumps itself out so nothing is left but a hollow shell.
Lol
Good thing Ireland isn’t upside down so 😂
That’s spray painted on an electrical box between Parnell place and merchants quay🤣
And if you want a whiskey its always better when you are Dublin it. Who wants a single... and we moved from the stage of old corks in whiskey. Ireland has a real cap now that holds it all in so we will keep it that way..
County Kerry will take a taste of the Whiskey :)
The range of Cork accents is so widespread too like none of these people had the same accent and they were all from Cork. The accents are fkn class. Corks 100% the true capital
Yaaa sure it is . Never in its history was it the capital .
There’s a zillion nuances with the accents too. You can zero in on particular estates and even streets.
“You have a very neutral accent” 😂 killed me . 😂
God bless that fella calling out the horrible Irish government, and the failure of the fighting Irish spirit.
I love these videos. Jamie asks straight forward simple question and the people become instantly hilarious. And what is with the 50 year old men who mumble? Is it alcohol or cold weather? They don’t open their mouth to talk? Everyone is so friendly. What great editing!
God i miss seeing people not wearing masks :( great video btw.
When was the video released do you think?
@@ahopefor By the looks of it last November December 2019. Jamie said they were all before covid
@@accounti98476 Ah I see, thanks.
Yess Cork is. When I’m in Ireland I love to go to Cork city. I have been visiting Cork city for well over 30 years. Fabulous city ❤️🇺🇸🇮🇪
And it's becoming better and better by the day ;-)
Your video was educational too in that I've learned straight from Cork residents' mouths that the true way to pronounce 'Cork' sounds more like 'Cark'. Even as a foreigner (who loves Irish tea) I know that every sachet of Barry's is blended in Cork whereas Lyons is made in England for the Irish market, and I was almost expecting a Barry's partisan to come out and represent! :P
But you know where tea actually comes from 😜
@@surajpanigrahi6540 Absolutely! I read that the tea leaves these brands select for their blends come from gardens/estates in Assam and Kenya. :)
@@christopherl436 Yes. However, the most expensive and the finest tea leaves are from Darjeeling as they are a bit spicier.
But being in Cork, hail Barry's.
I love hearing the answers people have. Jamie, you do a good job of asking thought-provoking questions. I'm half Irish and second generation in America and your interviews have provided me with interesting facts about Ireland. Hey, I have the same sunglasses as you so it just proves awesome Irish people think alike. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
@@jamiejaycar You're so welcome. I have been a follower since you were on Facts. You're hilarious and never disappoint with the topics you choose for your videos.
This was fantastic! Best interviews yet! More, please!😎
"I have to go because I'm actually disgraced.." 🤣
Irish people are wonderful were ever they are. Unfortunately the game between Cork and Dublin has gone on for years, a macho game. Don't get me wrong I am a Dubliner and have met and visited Cork and met wonderful people. I could write a book about it.
I went to Cork in 2012 to study english for one Month to a host family, and nostalgia made me come to this video. I love Cork and i have very nice memories related to Ireland. Im Also surprised about the accent of the irish people, i can barely understand them 😂.
These people have such a heavy accent , I can't understand what they are saying , except for the older women. They almost sound like they are from the southern US , hillbilly country.
Thank you for a great channel. I love cork so much. My mum comes from cork. I'm Scottish but I always see myself as Irish. My heart 💓 will always be in cork.
In America, if we say someone has a Corky personality it means that we think they are lively, bubbly and generally fun to be around with. it's a compliment.
Quirk. Quirky. No one says corky.
I got the impression that the last two guys in your video had just stepped out of the pub.
Watching these videos reminds me of the good days a spent in ireland.
Beautiful country.
The only person who was able to give a solid reason why Cork feels more like the true capital was the one American girl. She said exactly what I was saying before she came on, which is that Cork feels more Irish than Dublin does. All big, western cities have much the same feel to them. Dublin does feel Irish, of course, but it has lost a bit of its soul to its size. Cork is such a lovely, friendly, walkable city. Oh, and Murphy's is superior to Guinness, so.
as an American who's been to Cork and Dublin, I much prefer Cork
New to cork and this video made me happy! Thanks for this.
The two teen boys were fab!!! 👍☘
Greetings from New Jersey USA - expat of Cobh, Cork - Hilarious video, gotta love the flat cork accent Cork is a small town with a 'Big City' feel. Hometown pride to be sure, great coffee bistros, cultural art museums, fantastic hiking trails both in the city & rural cork - steeped in history. Cork has a vibrant restaurant culture , something for everyone, traditional dishes too & diehard foodies. And yes, We are a friendly lot with a great sense of community !! Always willing to help one another !! The next County you should visit either - 1. Roscommon - great fishing holidays 2. Leitrim - crusing on Lough Allen, kayaking on Lough Erne lots of Castles to visit - Have fun on your travels
I'm from Cobh 👍👍
This day was so much fun from travelling to cork meeting the people and seeing cork (lovely spot) and back to Dublin in one day was the best 💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡
Nice Work
Hi Jamie, cant wait to watch more content about interviewing people on the streets of Ireland:)
@@jamiejaycar good to hear that, honestly i miss seeing a funny character from your interviews
Love this Jamie Jay Car! You have a n amazing talent for this type of interviewing. Please do more!
But Cork is the true capital, even dubs know it deep down. Let's be honest
It is like
I love it when your out and about interviewing folk, it's hilarious
The saying that cork is the real capital comes from that unlike dublin or belfast cork wasnt as british influenced.
As a Dublin man I agree
Without Cork The Republic would still probably be British
Alot of the fighting and flying columns were in Cork Munster in general is less British
It was 'influenced' but we stood up to them and sent them off with a flea in their ear. Ask Donal O Sullivan from the Beara Peninsula. He was hunted and starved with his clan. We'll smile at ya and banter but we listen, take note and act accordingly. Rebel county for a reason. Fighting Irish are not the drunken Irish. We're educated and very social. Well travelled, very loving, musical, well rounded, can't be beat!
5:16 Before she spoke I don't know why but I knew she was going to sound American. 😂
Yep
So from an american standpoint she sounds like she's either from New York, or has a slight accent that I wouldn't quite call New York than again I'm south-midwestern so lol
@@jaceelee5450 That is not even remotely an East Coast accent.
Irish English has big influence for American English
Another GREAT show, Jamie!
😊🖤👍
"Spiced Beef...LMAO 🤣 "
Darn! You channel is so funny....the lady at 1:48 couldn't believe someone asking her questions.
Dublin has not enough irishness, that’s the reason why
As a dub man born and bred. I have to agree. Dublin definitely has a lot of scald going on to be fair
@@caolanmaher5907 to many foreigners deport them tf
Dublin at this point seems more british than Irish
@@sesh1255 what is wrong with you ☠️☠️
@@Corkerstein Dublin was always a British city. Look at descriptions from pre-1916. It's never been that much different than other large British regional cities, they all have their own local character and so does Dublin.
Sadly it's still the most influential city in Ireland and all of the main institutions and media are based in Dublin 4. They're successfully homogenising the rest of Ireland, especially the middle classes, and I could cite answers on identity surveys since the seventies as well as evidence from linguistics to demonstrate this (look up the research on 'Supraregional Irish English' for example)
The fella @2:58 is spot on 😂
Great work👍
Dublin is the capital city of Ireland, but Cork should be. It's so organized, clean and cool
Love it 🙌 You must take a momento from every county.

Buy something small, like a keychain everytime you visit a place.
I think it goes back to the Jackeen days, Cork people thought the Dubliners were too British.
0:57 Love the accent. 2:52 Comedic gold!
Very good looking young men!
Same here
The simple answer is (which unfortunately most interviewees couldn't grasp) is the that without Rebel Cork, there would be no Republic. And I know for certain sure the Westbrit interviewer knew similar but failed to interview knowledgeable Corkmen.
Imagine asking the TikTok generation their opinion on anything, jesus wept
Who did cork rebel against and when?
uptherockies the last time I checked Dublin whooped ur sorry ass after you spineless yellow cowards shot The Big Fellah in a cowardly attack hiding like little bitches, remember cork is the shit that came out of Dublin's backside
0:40 - Best Answer to Any Question Ever 🤣
Cork drove out the British and achieved independence. Today Dublin make political decisions for Cork which Cork people hate, hence why this "Republic of Cork/Cork is the capital" thing came about. Cork people feel they have the right to make their own decisions. For example local politicians in Cork tried to change the names of a few streets in Cork because they had British names like Victoria cross (Queen Victoria was Queen during the Irish famine), but of course Dublin would not allow it because they didn't want to be seen as anti British so we can keep our neighbors happy
Half the dail & the parties in power are made up of ppl from cork.

The young lad with his bud. What an accent! Very different from Ryan McHugh and his Nordieghal accent.
The best city😉 Love Cork!
I love the Irish accent so much, especially the Cork one
3:58 Awh thats romantic. I'm going home to kiss me wife. Well actually im single. I wish i had a wife🤣🤣
1:50 is that Claire Phillips from Come Dine with Me? The one who made "Americano Steak" with Chinese 5 spice?
Bless the Irish ☘️
When I moved to Cork I couldn't understand the taxi driver. Today I can happily say I understand the taxi driver, but I can't understand a Kerry man. I also found Tommy Tiernan's impression of the Cork accent funny.
Once was in Ireland and met some guys from Cork in a Dublin bar . I could not understand almost a single word. Was quite nervous, thought that my English was bad 🤭 now guess that the matter of misundestanding was that accent. The guys were nice by the way
Being from Cork I thought I'd at least know one face! It was like you were interviewing Americans more than Cork people, what is with the accents?!
They were Americans haha
Too much American TV
That black girl had the best Cork accent!
Would the reason be that if Cork would have not started to rebel, Ireland still would be under English rule? Does it make sense?
No
0:17 “I’m from CARK”
The reason people say it is because Dublin was in the Pale when the rest of Ireland was still indigenously run… Dublin is the British capital of Ireland.
When I was working in Ireland some years back Cork wasn’t all its craic’d up to be here.
We went to Cork last year and loved it so much that we're going back again this year. So much better than Dublin. 3:07
Definetely, yes. I had spent in Cork for a year when I was a student. Actually I really do miss to hear " cork accent" and it brought me to this video 🤣❤
The girl that had to go cos shes disgraced is an actual legend 🙌🙌🙌
More of these please Jamie
1:10 The son of the Kerry Farmer and cousin of the Frostbit guy
Not Irish so no opinion on the Capital bit.
Just want to say you are one excellent interviewer, always quick with follow up questions if needed.
You can’t blame the cork people they have a good point.I guess they did not forgive the Jackeen’s for waving the union flag when the Royals visited before
Independence was achieved well nearly achieved.
Oh ffs you bleedin eejit
1:28 WTF what accent is that , it just sounds like a tap dance
Its sound's more like a mixture of cork mixed with Limerick, tap dance then!😂😂😂
Sounds like the rowers from Skibereen

Coooeeeee Jamie 🖐🏼😄 loving the video
Gas as always keep it up lads☘, Dublin an Cork have both been largely influenced an expanded by Viking cultures to spark their growth but when I talk to some Cork heads they claim Dublin was more heavily influenced by foreign forces an they have kept more of the ole Gael ways so should be considered the better capital. Good banter regardless.😂

WATERFORD SHOULD BE CAPITAL IT IS THE OLDEST CITY THERFORE IT WAS THE CAPITOL ALSO IT'S THE MOST HISTORIC UP THE DEISHE
Already has a capital . Maybe if you merge every other city in Ireland it might just be half of the size of Dublin .
By that logic the hill of Tara should still be the capital. Also It wasn’t ever the capital.
