    @tilusnet247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I may want to mention that I just sent back the Minilab Mk2 in favour of this Microlab. Reducing size while preserving the quality of the keys/sturdiness was a very clever design choice. Piano/keyboard players like myself don't really need pads, but a travel friendly keyboard for eg. chords and impros while connected to mobile.

    • @dgomez6778
      @dgomez6778 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mini lab is only like 10 dollars more in my case. I was going to buy the minilab but I reconsidered and went for the microlab. I needed a small midi controller to take around with me to play whenever I wanted. I don't really do pads and I just found reducing the size while still having everything I needed was more attractive, prominent for my preferences. It has a nice, sturdy but still decently light-weight design and amazing keybed feel. It almost felt like playing on a mini piano. I love what arturia is doing with the keybeds

    Nice review, really interested in this. I have a question though, is this keyboard worth it if you already use a synth vst? The Korg Nanokey is cheaper and seems like it is not that much different. Or is the Arturia software that much better where I can get rid of the VST? You’re talking to a complete noob here who just messes around with synths to make atmospheric soundscapes and some accents to metal music lol

  • @helenrightherexx
    @helenrightherexx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I got a lot of information from this vid, but could I ask for some direct advice?
    I'm not looking for knobs or pads since I'm a beginner and the keys are what I need most.
    After days of searching I finally settled on this or the Korg Microkey 25- and I'm having a problem deciding between the two;
    The Microlab is twice as expensive as the Microkey, but the software that comes with it seems worth it, and the design is so appealing! The Korg Microkey is way cheaper but I'm not sure about the software that comes with it.
    I'm just worried I might get the Microlab and not be able to use it efficiently and I'll use it no better than the Microkey.
    What do you say, the Korg or the Arturia?

    • @helenrightherexx
      @helenrightherexx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      + the day may come that I want another midi controller (something with pads +@, like the minilab of novation mini)-maybe a 89$ choice is too much of a waste?

    • @malikas3021
      @malikas3021 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@helenrightherexx No, I think you should definetly go with the Microlab, because you can always return it if your not happy with the results, but it seems like a much more stable option to go with and has a lot more built in features(like having nice keys) that will make the price worth it. At this point you probably have already bought a synth, and I don't have this one, but I think you should go for the Microlab.

  • @CraftyOldGit

    I can't decide. Microlab is sweet. Deals in UK at the moment mean Minilab is only £10 more. And one day I'd like a Moog - Werkstatt-01 so the CV outputs of the Keystep would be useful. The extra features of the Keystep 37 make it attractive. And now I'm looking at more than 2x the price. Sigh. Still can't decide.

    What do you recommend me? I already have the arturia's drumbrute impact, so I do not really need the drumpads or knobs. And I feel the MicroLab is easier to travel with, but the MKII looks very cool too. I'd really appreciate your help.

    • @SanjayC
      @SanjayC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either one will be fine, but if you want some control of the mixer in GarageBand, then go with a keyboard that has some knobs, like the M32. You may not think you need it now, but you might want it later. :)

      @@SanjayC Ok, so in terms of software and units, should I go Native like the M32 or the Arturia Minilab MkII, Keystep, or I could even go higher to the essential 49? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much and I just love this channel!

    • @SanjayC
      @SanjayC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you were a pianist, I would've encouraged you to go with the Keylab Essential or the NI A-series. But since you're not, you may not miss the larger keys. The Keylab Essential will be nice if you plan to do a lot of sound design with synths - or use the keyboard with external synth hardware. If not, I think its not necessary. That said...if you're building a studio for the long term, you have the space and budget for it...I always prefer buying something that will last me longer and grow with my music needs. I hope I haven't confused you more! LOL!

      @@SanjayC LOL! Basically, I want to add piano parts but also ambient stuff to songs with guitars and drums. Very much the style like this: th-cam.com/video/VMWMI0H0b8Q/w-d-xo.html
      And then bring that into my existing Garageband tracks to sync if that makes sense. So should I go with the Essential 49 or 61 then?

    good for you if u can 'spend a little more' to get minilab instead. here the price difference between microlab and minilab is like 100usd (very rough calculation, because it feels like it is) and microlab itself costs like 150usd.

    I looked at this. As a bass player that is exploring other realms of music. Synths always spoke to me. I was getting an audio interface and monitors for home practice and dabble in recording and felt like I would benefit from a midi controller while I was at it. I ended up with the Mini Lab. The drum pads were attractive, and I just love having physical knobs. If I wasn't more of a make a noise and turn some knobs person, I could see this being more useful to someone that knows the sounds they are gonna use and just wants a simple solution for midi keys.
