Yes, and depends on situation. SOME TIMES when I am in my MiG 17 I feel like I have a far better MER, but much worse AoA, which makes the MiG-17 turn more than the F-86 Sabres, while spending less energy (but on the down side getting lesser "gun deflection") So I basically try to make the sabre pull as high AoA as possible to bleed his energy and then energy trap him. (For the MiG-15/17 depleting the enemie's energy is essential, since the guns suck.)
But since I suppose that in your case you are playing with a Sabre, I suggest you try some soft "cancer rolling" to prevent him from imediately getting guns on you. Then attempt to force an overshoot. (Methods may vary depending on the circunstances) If you see that the opponent opened air brake and/or bled too much speed, then try to energy trap him. (The only problem is that I have no idea of how exactly a Sabre might Energy trap another sabre...)

So... Defensive maneuvering. I like the way u taught it, but I think that most people know how to do defensive maneuvers if they grinded up to jets.

what if a sabre gets on your tail? they have a lot easier time getting guns on target than a mig19
