    Interesting to hear your perspectives Matt, and I agree that it is more a health tracker than a fitness tracker. I would recommend it for tracking your general health and sleep patterns, but if you care most about workouts you need to add a chest strap or fitness watch. Great video again, and amazing close-up of the ring. Also, thanks for the shoutout😊!

      @@TheQuantifiedScientist would you please consider reviewing the Gen 3 again in light of the new sleep algorithm that you were promoting and supporting a year ago when I watched your video about it and that influenced me to actually buy it? I think you're kind of obligated now to review it don't you think now that it's released? I really want to know what your data finds about its accuracy especially compared to other devices. I mean if you feel like it's accurate that I will accept that it is cutting my deep sleep in half and taking an hour off my nightly sleep even though I've done nothing different whatsoever. But I suspect that it's bogus. Even you were saying that deep sleep accuracy was not good and that they were putting too much on light sleep. Now they are trying to push that everyone accept that they have much more light sleep than they even had before and much less deep sleep. I'm talking way less than an hour. When I had over 2 hours before after changing so many behaviors that affect sleep. I just don't believe it. Please help us sir!

    I purchased the Oura 2 in July 2021...at the end of October they offered those of us that already had the ring a $100 discount off the Oura 3 plus free lifetime subscription. I only had my ring for 3 months at that point and despite the discount, couldn't justify dropping 200 on a new one. I figured I would pass on the offer and wait until I needed another to upgrade. Of course, I lost the ring right after the cutoff date for the offer on the new ring, so I ordered the Oura 3 a couple of weeks ago. I paid zero attention to the subscription part because I wasn't paying for one originally, so when I heard about the subscription for the Oura 3 I assumed it was for extra stuff, like community access, newer features, etc. Nope, if you don't pay for the subscription, you literally get no info of value. They show you your 3 scores and that's it, none of the data behind any of it. AND they shortened the warranty from 2 years to 1. I cancelled the order the second I found out about it. That's just greedy bullshit. I could understand withholding some stuff for people willing to pay, but they literally hold your basic stats hostage from you. Really disappointing because I like the ring. But eff that.

    • @Beth-pf6oo
      @Beth-pf6oo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@qstorm76 I explained fully in my post why I passed on it. I had just purchased my ring, so it made no sense to pay $250 for another one, and when they offered the lifetime subscription they didn't say "by the way, without the subscription, you basically can't access anything at all" I only wanted the basic info behind my scores, I wasn't interested in all the new stuff they were adding. Plus they shortened the warranty from 2 years to 1 year and I keep reading about some users having problems with the ring after a year. So when my 2nd ring stops working I have to buy ANOTHER one at some point, plus pay for a subscription?? Like I said eff that ...they need to get their shit straight.

    I have found that there is definately a difference in customer support than when Oura first started. And, that difference is not for the better. For example, I bought a replacement charger that broke within 3 months. I requested a new charger and recieved a message asking for details. I sent the details and recieved an email indicating I was eligible for an upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0. Hmm.... The problem is ... I already have the 3.0 but still use the 2.0 because not all the fuctions for the the 3.0 has been implemented. So, why waste the batterly life of the 3.0? It has been 2 weeks and I have gotten no response to my warranty replacement battery charger request. Instead, I am using the 3.0 charger and would unable to use of the Oura Ring 2.0 without the previous 3.0 purchase. I get the feeling that 2.0 owners are being pushed to the side. But, it could be worse. You could be a NEW (i.e., no previous ownership of an Oura Ring) and have the privilege of buying the 3.0 ring so they can then charge you a monthly subscription to effectively use what you bought. It appears Oura went from the best business model to the worse business model of ALL devices of this type. Unless your product has a dominant monopoly-like market presense, the chance of subscription model actually adding to growth is limited and likely to fail in the long term.

    I have owned the Gen 3 now for a year plus. I can report just as many negative as positive experiences. On the positive side it did help me move my sleep back much earlier and understand more deeply the impact my health behaviors have on my actual health. On the other hand just wow. Customer service regularly sucks and is only available through email. Feature releases come long after they are promised and come with a host of problems. For example the O2 feature completely crashed the battery and took multiple releases and firmware updates to stabilize it. I don't use it now. After a year my battery wasn't working properly and I had to get a whole new ring. That took a while to actually convince them that my ring was the problem and not just their software which as I said is always faulty. Now they have released the long awaited sleep algorithm upgrade and let me just tell you it absolutely sucks. They are literally punishing people who are older with lower HRV scores that are actually typical for our age. I am in my late '50s in excellent health at normal weight exercising regularly. I also do a lot of other things to increase my HRV such as blue light blockers and mouth tape and smaller evening meals with significant intermittent fasting etc. With the new algorithm, my deep sleep is immediately cut in half and an hour is cut off my sleep every night. Again I don't think this is anything new in terms of what they are measuring but they are just deducting sleep time and deep sleep time based on my HRV score. It is stupid, cheap, and just so dumb. This will probably be the deal breaker for me. I am shopping for other smart rings at this point. And yes the subscription is basically lying to their base selling the ring initially as a lifetime free subscription but then changing their terms later. I was lucky enough to get in with the last batch of lifers but I still empathize and understand that others don't want to pay the subscription for their own data. I think it's a crime for any company to do that. So I'm pretty sad now because I really wanted this ring to work. And like I said it has helped me in some ways. It is just far far from perfect. What other rings out there are people using that are quality? What do you think of this new Ringconn? Ultrahuman?

    I purchased the gen3 ring since my gen2 battery died. I asked multiple times for Oura support to confirm that I would not be charged a monthly fee and received that confirmation in some very confusing responses from their pathetic support team. But just this morning I looked in the app my accout area and it states 156 left in your trial membership! So the ring is going back. No way am I paying a monthly fee. Also would like to note that I wore my Oura ring and Fitbit together for 3 years and always trusted my sleep tracking from my Fitbit over my Oura ring. Oura always gave at least an hour or more deep sleep than my Fitbit for example 2.5 hrs deep on Oura and 1.5 by Fitbit. I had 2 professional sleep studies done over this period that were in line to my Fitbit, not Oura.

    • @mlegrand

      Yeah, it’s interesting, Fitbit does pretty well with its sleep stages algorithm. I hope the return process goes smoothly for you. Let me know how everything ends up.

      Ok, as for power meters . . . I typically recommend single sided to save money. Triathletes will typically see very similar right/left balance because they aren't really spiking power and tend to hold nice steady low wattage. You might see very different values when say . . . mountain biking. You might consider a duel sided pedal option that you can easily switch between bikes. Don't know. They're pricey. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I do believe that a power meter on your upcoming summer race would be helpful. I'd suggest using it almost like a governor to encourage you to keep the spikes and wattage down for the first 50 miles or so.

    Hopefully the upcoming Samsung ring will do away with the obnoxious paywall

      Yeah, I'm very excited to see what Samsung has to offer. Although, I don't have a samsung phone. 🤔

    So as a barber this ring wouldn't work well??

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t do to much testing to see exactly where it gave up on tracking heart rate. I should have explored that a bit more. But I wouldn’t trust it for true all day tracking.

    I would have returned it because it does everything that my Samsung gear does except less.

      Yeah, a lot of watches do these sorts of things. Some people prefer the ring to watches. I mainly struggled with the subscription service. 😬 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    why are you swimming with your fingers splayed open?

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know. I don't typically swim like that. I was filming with one arm and trying to see if the ring was going to slip. When I review the footage, I always try to pick the clips that show the product clearly. 🤷‍♂️

    This ring doesn't provide live heart rate data which is useless if you are heart rate training in the gym or on a cycle training. Avoid.

      And I’m guessing a watch isn’t an option based on your username. Good feedback. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    That seems like really slow customer service and makes me wary about the company overall. I also am not a fan of the pricing structure here either.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Exactly. 😬🤦‍♂️ I do hope the company makes it. I’d like to see them make some changes and keep this product moving forward. Maybe they’ve over promised on this edition.

      I think it’s the part I was most personally disappointed about when I rushed to preorder this device. I hate that more and more companies are heading in this direction. 😬

    Oura is an awful product and worst of all it's their customer service. I am on my second ring and battery is almost dead like my first one, data it's all over the place most of the time and customer service stop talking to me after I submitted a complaint about the data not showing properly in the app and they told me it was a bug just in my app which is clearly a lie to hide that the ring was faulty aftee a couple of weeks I contacted them to know how much longer do they need to fix my issue and just stop answering me just like that. If the users from Oura could review their ring it wouldn't score 3 out of 10 and I am not exaggerating a bit, they went as far as deactivating the comments in their TH-cam Channel, how crazy it's that.

    Your experiences, especially complex failures on response and return indicate a failing company. Promises not met. ? Scam money grab. Sad sad sad.
