It’s crazy to me she leaves so many songs out that would fit beautifully on her albums. This should have been on ITD, just like ‘the big guns’ should have been on LES - her best song in that era. ITD & TBYML b sides are treasures. Thanks for all the uploads 🖤
When Peej said that "Is This Desire?" was her greates work, she must've mean the b-sides to, because I rank this up there with her greatest work. It's a damn shame that album didn't click as good as the others. It truly was a masterpiece.
For some reason, this song will always remind me of a beautiful child who died before her 6th birthday. I was only a small part of her life and didn't find out until long after the event that not only did she die so young but also that she was dying when I knew her. She was sweeter than anything.
How does she do it? A simple song about the end of a brief affair becomes a meditation on the impermanence of the physical world, without pretension, without trying. Three years now, & I still obsessed with her work.
Don't worry about it. I still do listen to PJ Harvey just not as much as I used to, she was my all time favourite artist but now I listen to much more varied music so I don't have as much time for her. I still think shes wonderful!
+Renato Santos It was included on an EP that she had in 1998. I think. There are a bunch of songs out there you just gotta get in on the b sides. Or EPs.
I don't know... I used to be a huge fan of Pj Harvey but don't listen to her as much anymore. However out fo all of her songs this is one I can alwasy come back to and enjoy as much as the first time i heard it. The lyrics are fantastic.
Sorry, I accidentally hit the wrong icon, since I meant to select the thumbs up. I couldn't agree with you more regarding this statement and it does really comes through in her work. *big thumbs up*
well what a genius . first i didn ´t like it that much , but her songs sometimes do this in the beginning . a few of these slowly unfolding ones really have a subtle greatness and this one here is marvelous when you look at one detail - it is obvious she sings about long gone romance or something like that . so when it comes to having questions and sorrow about the whereabouts of this thing " love " it ´s only understandable someone would probably ask "how can this be ..." last stanza built is an ending that somehow gratefully refuses rational explanation , - in short terms : a embrace , a pillow , a rare thing and a youthful dedication to having chosen melancholic contemplations over these short and brutal "rovers" of common sense , claiming that things will simply have to happen so and so ... especially when the hidden price seems to reveal itself as a "good dose" of what it always was : not meant to be granted or fulfilled . Oh P.J. could ´ve been the cure , I guess . Almost
She said that in 2004 and I think she still considers it her masterpiece because she said she made it during a difficult time in her life (supposedly partly due to her break-up with Nick Cave). They say you create your greatest work in the face of adversity. The same reigns with PJ.
Yeah, it's really great. Acid Tougue is probably my favorite off of her new album though it's not mentioned in the reviews I've read. But her new album is fantastic. She's beautiful and a very talented singer/songwriter. It's wierd that it's not possible to find more videos with her on youtube...
For your information I own every album Pj Harvey has ever released including Dance hall at louse point and her DvD from the Uh Huh Her tour. All the songs you have listed are excellent especially Angelene... However this song, Horses in my dreams, Is this desire and water are my favourites. Why are you so averse to the thought of me enjoying this song? You are just looking for a fight maybe :P....
I like women who can eat Marmalade jam toasties and sip Irish Breakfast tea on a balcony dressed in leather overlooking all Mankind, my type of Breakfast....
Why do so many PJH fans place so much importance on her brief relationship with NC? Looking at the photos tagged on Instagram with “pjharvey”, almost half of them are pictures of her and Nick Cave. Good god.
Really I cannot agree this is her greatest work. Peel has his own taste but this album was really much more homogenous and rather lacking in the energy and dynamism of the previous ones.
No no, not at all. I'm sorry that my wording is not that good in English. I never look for a fight like that. Too many arguments here on youtube end up very primitiv and insulting. Of course you're allowed to like this song - why not? But as I said, I don't think it's one of the best songs she's ever recorded. I own all of her rerleases too, including all of he alternative recordings. I was just wondering why you don't really listen to PJ Harvey anymore.
She has at least 40 songs better than this one. But it’s a good song- the best version of it is live at cornwall, 2003, as three piece with Ellis and Mick Harvey.
I've always heard it as..
so sad I'm x 5
your memory
One of the best songs Pj Harvey has ever recorded
This is probably my favorite work of creativity by any human being ever. If music could be painting, this is definitely watercolor.
I could not agree more
@@ZZqezza You're still alive! Thanks for your contributions here, friend. Hope all is well. :)
It totally is!!! Watered down watercolors to add a dripping effect. I love it
Wonderful image
I love the b-sides. I hope she comes out with a cd or cds that have all the rare/b-side songs on it.
My favorite PJ song!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

If this song was a lifesaver, it would be butterscotch.

never knew this one! Release more of your songs please Polly Jean
I love this track I love this woman
This song makes me cry. Im deeply in love with someone but my biggest fear is that will it fade and become nothing more than a memory.
Same.
Better to have had that memory than to never experience the joy.
This song also reminds me of a love that ended much too quickly...
How does she do it? A simple song about the end of a brief affair becomes a meditation on the impermanence of the physical world, without pretension, without trying. Three years now, & I still obsessed with her work.
She does it because she is a genius.
This song reminds me of a love that ended so fast...
One of my favorite PJ's songs!
I first heard this as a cover by Will Oldham, Bonnie Billy from the More Reverie ep. I love both equally
Life is a risk sometimes and we need to grab happiness while we can live life well
this song is perfect...
Don't worry about it. I still do listen to PJ Harvey just not as much as I used to, she was my all time favourite artist but now I listen to much more varied music so I don't have as much time for her. I still think shes wonderful!
I can't believe this is a b-side, it's amazing!
such a beautiful song. So said I.
Amazing track
I still cannot believe this song was not included in ITD?
ITD? should have been a double album.
+Renato Santos It was included on an EP that she had in 1998. I think. There are a bunch of songs out there you just gotta get in on the b sides. Or EPs.
Renato, sempre aqui a represent!
total

This is truly amazing. Great song.

i remember getting a flexi disc of water on a mag free, when i was wee, i fell in love with her tunes from then on, i think that was her first single
Such misery...Will never forget must be sad. Not a word, no love letter , undergoing drama crea ba. heartbroken part of a film, i am in.....
Her best song but sad too
We were
Never more than a dream
Brief as
Summer or spring
Sweeter than anything

i love her
I like !!!!!!!!!

This song reminds me of when me and wes met I was psychotic he carried the tv up and downstairs when we got in a silly fight lol
:D
what a pleasant surprise.
Superb... Greetings from CHASMA!!!
I'm also a fan of jenny! Her new song acid tongue is fantastic!
This song should have been the soundtrack for "fun and games" episode of better call saul, it fits perfectly.
amen to that
memories of safety and happiness.
I'm not waiting for her B-sides record, I need to make my own....:)
So sad our, so sad our
So sad our, so sad our
So sad our, so sad our
Our memory, hey
@SteeRnschNuPPe they're are "only" b-sides so you can find them on "A Perfect Day Elise" and Good Fortune" singles
I agree.
Well, glad we got this sorted out. I see, what you mean. Personally, I listen to a lot of Jenny Lewis at the moment.
me and you..we were never more than a dream..

He covered P.J. :)
@ZZqezza ye, this on my b-sides album. cannot believe i had it and didn't know it. some kind of fan I am
So beatiful! Not her best but its PJ I like the best... Have you got any other songs from Is This Desire? era?
this can reduce anyone to a puddle
@thedeadandpoorfolk in the states am i.
@SteeRnschNuPPe I have a b-sides album that has both songs
I like women who can eat Marmalade jam toasties and sip Irish Breakfast tea on a balcony dressed in leather overlooking all Mankind, my type of Breakfast....
i wonder if this is about her break-up with nick cave
Why do so many PJH fans place so much importance on her brief relationship with NC? Looking at the photos tagged on Instagram with “pjharvey”, almost half of them are pictures of her and Nick Cave. Good god.
Will Oldham covered it
Is this PJ who wrote teh song or Bonnie Prince Billy?
PJ
I really can't understand why this is 'just' a b-side.
Really I cannot agree this is her greatest work. Peel has his own taste but this album was really much more homogenous and rather lacking in the energy and dynamism of the previous ones.
so sad im a memory*
F*ck! This song reminds me I really wanna do music! :/
Oops I misread your post. I thought you meant John Peel said it's her greatest work.
Well I guess I have to disagree with PJ then :)
@AgyDeyn Polly
Sweeter not any thing
