Primordial Malzeno rocketed itself into my top five monsters of all time, and I hold it to be the best monster in the whole of the fifth generation. Such an unforgettable encounter and fight.
I just got the urgent quest for him, it's the first quest I spent 44 minutes to kill a monster lol I was clearing everything else around 15min Very good fight though
Ibushi has taken it as my favourite, but I'll always appreciate the versatility in which Nergigante presents its occupation of predation, demonstrating adaptable tactics in regards to inspiration from real-life ecology. First principle, it's most active when prey is migrating, targeting old and infirm individuals. Against equivalent elders, it emulates a bear in grappling the target, getting them down to go for the throat or scrape the wings. The healing factor lends itself to attrition strategies; Nergigante can accept a hit if it deals a hit and is better prepped for round two. On a giant like Zorah, flesh-grazing works fine (ala cookiecutter sharks), simply taking bites out of the bigger animal until inevitably forced off. Ambush was the theme against Shara, exploiting a vulnerable time ala a polar bear by a seal's breathing hole or stingrays ambushing moulting crabs. And if the Handler was right, that may have been the aim while searching for Xeno, try and catch it out while it's still soft and inexperienced (or better yet find the cocoon and claw in to kill it while it's comatose). Even better, the animal will actually break off a hunt if it's disadvantaged. Hunters harassing it on Zorah, it backs off. Lunastra turns a one-on-one to two-on-one, it backs off. Hunters confront it over Shara, it backs off. Not even a hint of it when heavy hitters like Safi'jiiva are running around. It's so refreshing when the big monstrous carnivore actually demonstrates some self-preservation in fiction.
I love the Namielle appreciation since World was my first monster hunter game i don't have the biggest knowledge to pull from but the fight the looks it's all amazing to me
Assuming Risen elder dragons don't return in future MH games, I'd be for just copying a lot of what Risen Kushala does to Rusted Kushala for its eventual post-World revamp.
Primordial Malzeno is undeniably one of the best Elder Dragons ever, he even looks like he'd be a worthy rival for Nergigante. If they ever make a return, I want to see how the rivalry would play out.
It won a turf war with velkhana without qurio and took 0 damage, its experience with elder dragons defending its territory probably make it the most dangerous non first class monster (I think Amatsu and stuff are in that not just fatalis and stuff but lemme know if I’m wrong)
Me personally, my love for Malzeno has had me in a chokehold the moment of his debut, something about a vampire-esque Elder Dragon just seems so purely unique of any Elder Dragon I've ever seen. But then Primordial Malzeno gets introduced and now my love for him has got me in a tight hug and won't let go anytime soon. Capcom did an astounding job with the creation and lore of the two. Cheers to them. Can't wait to see what Monster Hunter 6/Wilds has in store for the Monster Hunter community.
As much as I love the execution of these monsters' designs, I would absolutely love a monster tier list based purely on lore and concept instead of gameplay and cinematics
Primordial malzeno might have just pioneered a perspective of “good monsters” in the story. It would be nice to see the coexistence between the people and monsters.
I love the Jivas. Their use bioenergy made them feel like they were nature incarnate. Then add onto that Safi being a rival to Fatalis which is basically Death Incarnate in monster hunter and it just fits so well.
I much prefer Velkhana and Xenojiiva to Teostra and Lunastra, tho i think its mainly due to the weapon i main, Glaive, being more aerial and making my experience fighting both alot different to someone whose impression was fighting them with grounded weapons. I find fighting Velk and Xeno with Glaive so much more engaging and fun compared to Luna & teo where i felt like i was just helicoptering their wings to do any consistent damage compared to Velk and Xeno (specifically archtempered xeno) where it rewarded me for mixing up both aerial and grounded attack combos to fight them. Basically I think the Archtempered Velk and Xeno are S+ where Teo and Luna would just be B tier for me personally
Something about gaismagorm that I love is it’s appearance It’s from deep deep underground and so of course it wouldn’t look like most stuff out there and the glowing mouth would be to intimidate other gaismagorm like the sarcastic fringhead and I just love the image of two gaismagorm meeting in a dark opening in the earth, opening their mouths and circling each other
I absolutely agree Safi should have been black instead of red. But it gives me hope that we get black Safi as equivalent to white fatalis some day. Safi is S+ for me. I even did the entire siege solo at least twice (before safis health got adjusted for solo play)
HONESTLY, I saw the teaser for it, where it had the eearie teal glow and looked pitch black with the constelations on its wings, so i hoped they expanded on Xeno's already alien looks. But nope, it's a basic red dragon, whose blue energy beams clash terribly color-wise with its red scales. It looks cool still, but I'm still disappointed.
Something that has me really intrigued as a concept with Elder Dragons is both simple and massive; What if the Elder Dragon category of monsters was made into more a sub-category rather than being a full classification? Part of it is just for the idea of seeing how Elder Dragons are distributed across the various types of monsters. This would definitely come with new categories but would still let Elders have more classifying them than their power/intelligence and in some cases size. Inverting it to make the monster type a subcategory would also work as many Elder Dragons share the same body plan.
My top 5 #1 Safi, #2 White Fatalis, #3 Fatalis, #4 Crimson Fatalis, #5 Nergigante and Aalatreon tie Honorable mentions Namielle and Amatsu To me the MHW fight with Fatalis bumped him one up on his Crimson variant which is why he's in third place other than that, Safi became my most favorite Monster after it's introduction, the Lore to it is amazing and I love the Raid and especially it's design. I hope they introduce variant species of Safi in the future like Crimson Fatalis or ancestor Variants of Safi like White Fatalis is to Fatalis.
Ibushi took the cake and absolutely devoured it for me. Valstrax in all its forms still holds a special place in my heart, but Ibushi stands as the *only* monster in the series that I pushed myself to actively master to the point of consistent sub-10 runs, including a PB of 5:41 in Sunbreak (5:11 with followers). The fight, the design, the OST, the gear, there isn't a single thing about that monster I don't love. There's a reason why I was able to stomach 50 rampages way back in base Rise _just_ to be able to fight him again!
The reason it is down is to add a level of legend to it. Monster hunter is, for all intents and purposes a sci-fi game with fantasy æesthetics. The strongest monsters like Fatalis or safi'jiiva are designed to look like fantasy dragons because that puts them closer to something like dark souls which is more supernatural and thus more intimidating.
Yama Tsukami should be In MH: Wilds, and they should add the wind punch’s and (the move where they shoot a horizontal stream & then 3-5 tornadoes pop up) into Kushala’s base movekit
I knew that something wasn't right when i saw that lunastra wasn't in the same tier as kushala daora and kushala was above velkhana, the funny part is that you talk about all the frustrating shit that she has like it's a good thing😂ill tell you what, i used to farm her ONLY IN TEMPERED INVASTIGATION before iceborne release just to have a lil advantage against behemoth with it's wide range and hp boost skills and i still hate her with all my heart for putting me into so much suffering back then
Love the channel and all the content yall privide. That said Fatalis not being S+ is mental in my opinion. Also, think Safi is a better fight than Giasmagorm.
i loved her fight but the moment i saw her armor i was sold on her. her fight is amazing but that armor is prob my favorite looking armor in the entire series
Great video dude but I do think you should rate monster on how awesome they were at the time they came out cos loa was crazy on mh 1 when you first see him . Yes if come parred to other monsters now he might not seem great but when he did come out he was awesome 😊
Tbh when it comes to crimson glow and Rusted, i think they would very much be better if the risen version movesets were implemented with them. Rusted needs a new gen interpretation and is an extremely underwhelming fight that would really shine with risen kushala's moveset and Crimson glow really just felt like a valstrax but the projectiles explode (and the laserbeam is there too) RCG val moves would add a new dimension to it that it would only benefit from (like both of those are supposed to be variants for Gog's sake, why are they barely different).
For the most part I’d say elders are very cool, especially ones that are just on the weird side like namielle, amatsu or dalamadur. There’s a few exceptions where I think the concept is far better then the monster itself (valstrax and kirin) but yeah overall elders are great.
I agree with most of this but think it needs tempered elders included. Thinking of tempered nerg in particular, the fight was night and day from his normal. I rank him in S+ tier because of the difficulty and the fact he is my favorite monster so some bias in there lol.
Was not expecting chameleos to be as high as it is on the list. Personally my least favorite elder dragon. Too twitchy and stiff for my liking, makes the fight uncomfortable
I feel like the whole Elder Dragon is also the miscellaneous category got retconned by Monser Hunter 4 and Online (not to mention all the crossover monsters in the first Monster Hunter Stories).
Though it is true that MH takes on a more "realistic" side of fantasy, I would argue that MH is a "Low-magic" setting. Though Everything is gripped by a certain level of realism, there are many things that can only be explained as "magic" or a lack of a better word. Kinship stones, "life energy", the impressive feats of hunters, lack of fall damage, healing potions, a whole slew of items and materials, and one of the descriptions of Elder Dragons is literally that their abilities are unexplainable. Low-magic settings are usually defined by, that people and monsters cant use magic, but there are items, organs etc which have magical properties which aid in such feats. An example would be "potions dont heal wounds, they speed up the natural healing abilitiy" or for like Nergigante, Dude is CONSTANTLY healing, growing spines and shedding them off. This is due to...life energy? It's would be fair to say as well, that many powerful beasts such as elder dragons have "gems" inside of them. We use them for crafting and they hold "untold potential". Such examples would only aid the concept, that adding these parts would allow weapons and ammo to deal elemental damage.
Lunestra was an annoying fight in Iceborne due to its nova. You couldn't counter or engage with it, and it just felt like a cheap tactic. It also doesn't work as a lioness with that mane. I don't think this author understands Fatalis. It is not a normal/western dragon, but rather its appearance is *alien* in the world of Monster Hunter. It represents as something distinctly apart from nature, in a world of natural beasts. It's also one of the best boss fights in any game.
I've been hearing that Lao's original fight in his debut game is supposedly his best but I wouldn't know. I especially wouldn't know if that would raise him out of F tier.
I still say that Capcom should have mixed the Rampage with a siege fight against Lao, imagine having to juggle dealing with gate crashers while this guy is slowly coming to make short work of the final line of defense, and unlike the Apex monsters and Ibushi, it's present the entire time, looming closer and closer with each passing second you ignore it.
Kirin deserves an f tier. If you’re fighting him in old gen his fight is so boring he just runs around and occasionally throws a couple lighting strikes that are super avoidable. Overall he’s probably the worst elder dragon.
I've kinda grown to hate Alatreon due to the fact that I'm currently suck on his fight and haven't been able to beat him to this day. It's gotten to the point I've stopped playing Monster Hunter World all together
After the first attempt, regardless of whether you succeed, it will let you start the next portion of the quest which begins with a one time quest in which Alatreon is highly nerfed (at least in terms of health).
Id personally swap Nergi and Ruiner, because of the metal. Slightly biased because Ruiner made me feel like i was fighting heavy metal music in dragon form. It's like the difference between a band like AC/DC and one like Metallica, they both do subgenres of rock with AC/DC doing the classic hard rock sound and Metallica being old school heavy metal.
I would agree with moist everything except Risen monsters. Outside of Kushala I actually kind a hated everyone/ Some with Primordial Malzeno. Although these were the only monsters ever that I can't consistently beat. Rise is just to fast for me at endgame.
Pretty good list; I would personally put Magala a bit higher and drop Alatreon down a bit. Alatreon is my favorite black dragon, just not my favorite elder.
Primordial Malzeno rocketed itself into my top five monsters of all time, and I hold it to be the best monster in the whole of the fifth generation. Such an unforgettable encounter and fight.
I just got the urgent quest for him, it's the first quest I spent 44 minutes to kill a monster lol
I was clearing everything else around 15min
Very good fight though
Pain
Hes above nergigante for me, MILES above. Strength and honestly, i love him
As someone who started wayyy back in Freedom Unite on PSP, I still agree. This monster is just about perfect.
Primordial took the number 1 spot
Ibushi has taken it as my favourite, but I'll always appreciate the versatility in which Nergigante presents its occupation of predation, demonstrating adaptable tactics in regards to inspiration from real-life ecology.
First principle, it's most active when prey is migrating, targeting old and infirm individuals. And if the Handler was right, that may have been the aim while searching for Xeno, try and catch it out while it's still soft and inexperienced (or better yet find the cocoon and claw in to kill it while it's comatose).

he would trash both nergs, cuz like no way nergi could beat gais
Primordial Malzeno dogged Gaismagorm, I think it's more than qualified
PriMal literally blocked velkhanas beam and fucking destroyed her.
Nergigante would get fucked
Primordial obliterated Gaismagorm without being empowered by Qurios, Nergigante would be destroyed
It won a turf war with velkhana without qurio and took 0 damage, its experience with elder dragons defending its territory probably make it the most dangerous non first class monster (I think Amatsu and stuff are in that not just fatalis and stuff but lemme know if I’m wrong)

I can't believe this list forgot the most Iconic Elder dragon.
The Head on Stick Elder Dragon, Cotton Dynosaur
Primordial malzeno for me sometimes be tied with fatalis or under in my top 5 elder dragon list
Something about gaismagorm that I love is it’s appearance
It’s from deep deep underground and so of course it wouldn’t look like most stuff out there and the glowing mouth would be to intimidate other gaismagorm like the sarcastic fringhead and I just love the image of two gaismagorm meeting in a dark opening in the earth, opening their mouths and circling each other

Nice to see Cotton finally warm to regular Malzeno
Make a list of your favorite armors! Some designs are so good
Something that has me really intrigued as a concept with Elder Dragons is both simple and massive; What if the Elder Dragon category of monsters was made into more a sub-category rather than being a full classification? Honorable mentions Namielle and Amatsu

I hope they introduce variant species of Safi in the future like Crimson Fatalis or ancestor Variants of Safi like White Fatalis is to Fatalis.
Oroshi?
Also if we get underwater back in hope it gets improved, I hope they add Namielle and give it a beatiful swimming animation.
Kulve taroth in c tier is criminal
Ibushi took the cake and absolutely devoured it for me. Valstrax in all its forms still holds a special place in my heart, but Ibushi stands as the *only* monster in the series that I pushed myself to actively master to the point of consistent sub-10 runs, including a PB of 5:41 in Sunbreak (5:11 with followers). There's a reason why I was able to stomach 50 rampages way back in base Rise _just_ to be able to fight him again!
I find it criminal that you forget to list Oltura. It’s legit one of the coolest monsters in the series, and extremely threatening too.
While I won't deny that, as a fight, Zorah is underwhelming, I still really like him conceptually. His theme is pretty good too.
17:27 what?! The whole reason why Fatalis was so unique is that he IS the ONLY elder dragon with the classic western dragon look.
I think the world fatalis fight is the best fight in the entire series but it's 30 minute timer is a really bad choice which kills the fight for me.
My favorite elders are Valstrax, Nergi, and Alatreon. Safi is coo too
Yama Tsukami should be In MH: Wilds, and they should add the wind punch’s and (the move where they shoot a horizontal stream & then 3-5 tornadoes pop up) into Kushala’s base movekit

Bruh, i was like "No way he is going to forget Namielle😅" my absolute favourite Monster, Shara is amazing too
she really is amazing and sh has what imo is the best looking armor ever
Had to give this a like just for being another Namielle appreciator. Still disappointed she wasn't in Rise
i loved her fight but the moment i saw her armor i was sold on her. her fight is amazing but that armor is prob my favorite looking armor in the entire series
I’m in shambles that you put KIRIN above KULVE TAROTH???
Great video dude but I do think you should rate monster on how awesome they were at the time they came out cos loa was crazy on mh 1 when you first see him . Yes if come parred to other monsters now he might not seem great but when he did come out he was awesome 😊
It's a tier list bud, you're not new to the internet to not know these are purely opinion based on the person making it
My hope for a future elder dragon is one that uses all of the non-elemental status like how Alatreon uses all of the MH elements.
Shrouded Nerscylla is only missing blast to have all of them (it's not an elder but still)
Tbh when it comes to crimson glow and Rusted, i think they would very much be better if the risen version movesets were implemented with them.
That’s so weird, I was literally thinking how cool it would be if they brought back Rusted with risens moves. I’ve come up with its attacks as well 😅
I find it interesting that the guy whose literal thing is 'Head on a stick' would put the Elder Dragon who embodies that very same theme so low lol
I’m only three minutes in and couldn’t disagree more about Jhen Mohran XD
Great video regardless so far!
its a crime he put safi and shaggy so low lol
I can't recall ever taking offense to someone shitting on a thing I like, but the Kulve, Shaggy and Mohran disrespects were insane lmao
I find it funny that primordial malzeno is just malzeno before the corruption and he is the “sub-species “
For the most part I’d say elders are very cool, especially ones that are just on the weird side like namielle, amatsu or dalamadur. There’s a few exceptions where I think the concept is far better then the monster itself (valstrax and kirin) but yeah overall elders are great.

Was not expecting chameleos to be as high as it is on the list. Personally my least favorite elder dragon. Too twitchy and stiff for my liking, makes the fight uncomfortable
Justice for my boi Lao it’s about time MH remake that fight, knowing now what they can do with a siege fight it’s a tragedy
I feel like the whole Elder Dragon is also the miscellaneous category got retconned by Monser Hunter 4 and Online (not to mention all the crossover monsters in the first Monster Hunter Stories).
Gore is 100% my favorite, got all his gear, so much fun.
Though it is true that MH takes on a more "realistic" side of fantasy, I would argue that MH is a "Low-magic" setting. Kirin above velkhana kinda invalidates the list

What Safi and Fatalis not beeing S Tier?
Yo you know something that don't come to mind a Rajang eat a arashi Kirin we basically get a angry Ice monkey
They should have give the wind serpent an all father form as like an optional quest
World fatty is objectively S+
Kirin deserves an f tier. If you’re fighting him in old gen his fight is so boring he just runs around and occasionally throws a couple lighting strikes that are super avoidable. Overall he’s probably the worst elder dragon.
I think Velkana at C is a disservice to the monster and was rated at C purely due to a skill gap. Which is unfair to designers of the monster.
I've played since the first game and I don't agree with this list. But i have my opinion and you have yours.
Yeah! Justice for Dire Miralis! Please come back!
Putting Safi bellow gaismagorm even thought only his last phase is somewhat interesting baffles me also how is nakarkos worse than Kirin?!?!?
Magnamalo should be an Elder Dragon and it'd be in S+ tier, its an awesome monster.
If they reworked the ahtal ka fight into a proper elder dragon (say with its finished form(s)...) what would you rank it?
Id personally swap Nergi and Ruiner, because of the metal. Slightly biased because Ruiner made me feel like i was fighting heavy metal music in dragon form. It's like the difference between a band like AC/DC and one like Metallica, they both do subgenres of rock with AC/DC doing the classic hard rock sound and Metallica being old school heavy metal.
Lol Yama S+ and Lao F😂
U lost me at A tier for shagaru but instantly got me back on S for shara
17:11 valstrax I called him (Crim)
Thank you for the respect given to the whales
Allmother Narwa in S -_-
I think when cotton fights 4U super crimson he will appreciate him more. But also Ibushi will be number 1 best elder forever fight me
Ruiner nergi in only A tier is the most blasphemous, heretical, evil thing I have seen all day. my disappointment immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
man, I can't wait for like a shark elder dragon!
Velkhana is skill issue
Also nergi
Black safi would not look as good as red safi in my imagination but maybe it could be a future variant
Nah bro, kirin is really one of the worst i fought, simply to easy, not interesting, no presence
While I like primal malzeno, I think it's primal form goes a little bit to far in terms of design. Still like the fight though
I think you forgot Shen Gaoren
Farm Crimson in 4u, hes pretty unusual.
You said to comment where you went wrong at end of vid. Soooo
Velkhana C tier? Come on bruv
Every cotton video has in beckround THIS BOWGAN video.
no akantor and ukanlos?
Is just me or you forgot gore magala??
What do you think about Risen Shagaru Magala? Above regular like the other Risen variants?
i would never do 100% but 99% seems 100% accurate :D
Wait, Akantor or Ukanlos are not elder dragons?
They're technically classified as Flying Wyverns, yes.
Mid tier Elder level though.
They used to be.
@MonsterHunterxRWBY I've been saying we need a Monster Hunter Rwby crossover for years. At the very least, make Sun's Gunchucks the 15th weapon.
So hard fights mean bad elder dragon, and easy fights also make them bad? That just seems not right
Dodogama?
This ranking is absolute trash & everything is wrong. Good job.
Naaaah Lao-Shan Lung is BY FAR the best of all
I still dislike Alatreon mechanic with all my power, Namielle will be im my top top for sure
No. 😂
Dam he mist green pimple darran moran
Nergi is definitely not on spot/tied with Gais and PriMal, on design yes but power no
I would agree with moist everything except Risen monsters. Outside of Kushala I actually kind a hated everyone/ Some with Primordial Malzeno. Although these were the only monsters ever that I can't consistently beat. Rise is just to fast for me at endgame.
Magnamalo?
🐉+🌪️
Where’s Monster hunter frontier?????
Big dragon cool
Imagine having a regular quest against Lao-Shan Lung, it may be slow but its a living battering ram.
Lunastra should be f tier. Terrible monster, terrible fight
Pretty good list; I would personally put Magala a bit higher and drop Alatreon down a bit. Alatreon is my favorite black dragon, just not my favorite elder.
